This September 9 marks what would’ve been late soul legend Otis Redding‘s 81st birthday, and coinciding with the milestone, the Otis Redding Foundation has organized a weekend of special events celebrating his legacy in his hometown of Macon, Georgia.

The events, which include two special tribute concerts, will also serve as fundraisers for the planned Otis Redding Center for the Arts, an 11,000-square-foot facility that will help support the foundation’s “mission to empower, enrich, and motivate youth through education programs involving music, writing, and instrumentation.”

The weekend festivities will kick off on September 9 with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Center of the Arts. The building will house spaces for musical collaboration and rehearsal, learning rooms and a performance stage for the students.

That night, a concert dubbed An Evening of Respect will be held at Macon’s Grand Opera House that will include performances by country star Mickey Guyton and Grammy-winning jazz/R&B pianist Robert Glasper.

Then, on Saturday, September 10, another concert, called The Big “O” Homecoming Show, will take place at Macon’s the Capitol Theatre, which will be headlined by the husband-and-wife Americana duo The War and Treaty, and will feature performances by several other artists. The event is inspired by the Home Coming Show and Dance concerts Otis held in Macon throughout the 1960s that would include a lineup of Redding’s contemporaries and peers.

“Our family is elated to celebrate my dad’s legacy in person for the first time since the pandemic,” says Otis’ daughter, and Otis Redding Foundation executive, Karla Redding-Andrews. “We are happy to bring the weekend-long celebration back to Macon and thank the countless patrons who have supported the Otis Redding Foundation since my mother established it in 2007.”

Zayn Malik threw it back to his One Direction days by singing a cover of “Night Changes” on Instagram.  Fans are wondering what this means because this isn’t the first time he’s sung a 1D song. He shared a clip of him singing “You & I” in June.

Joe Jonas just turned 33 and admits he uses injectables to smooth his fine lines. “There were all these talks at one point, like, ‘Oh, men can’t do this or it’s weird for guys to do that,’ and I think there’s a stigma that’s fading, and I like that,” he told PeopleFans are not loving the revelation and are panning him on Instagram.

Madonna turned 64 Tuesday but plans on celebrating all week. She took to Instagram to preview her “birthday week,” which consists of fancy dinners, plenty of kisses, drinks, limo rides and more. She previously revealed she is in Sicily to celebrate her birthday.

Encanto is up for several Imagen (Ee-mah-hen) Awards! It’s up for best music composition for film or television, as well as best music supervision for film or television. It’s the only movie to be nominated in both categories. The Imagen Awards, which salute Latino talent, take place on October 2 in Los Angeles. Disney is the parent company of ABC News.

Meghan Trainor not only released a clean, acoustic version of “Bad for Me,” with Teddy Swims — she also made a new music video for it. The two wanted to make the song more intimate and shot the video in a recording studio.

Harry Styles is one of the most searched-for celebrities on Google — but what are the majority of people asking? Google Trends reveals people search for his age (28), his height (6’0″) and who he is dating (actress Olivia Wilde) — in that order. So, which country Googles him the most? The honor goes to Ireland.

Young Thug‘s attorney and the Fulton County district attorney are expressing concern over the safety of an affiliate of the rapper’s Young Slime Life gang. Thug was arrested under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act in July. According to WSB-TV, the identity of a cooperating witness in his RICO case was revealed, prompting a slew of threatening messages.

“YSL enthusiasts and/or actual gang members are threatening someone they believe is cooperating with the state,” District Attorney Fani Willis said. “And not only that person, but their very small children.”

The identity leak reportedly occurred during the discovery procedure, in which the defense and prosecution exchanged evidence that will be presented in January’s trial.

“This is putting people at risk and it’s poisoning the jury pool,” attorney Brian Steel told WSB-TV. “Please stop immediately. Whomever is placing items of discovery online is not doing anybody a favor. It is totally inappropriate to try to try this case in social media. This will be tried fairly and justly in Fulton County Superior Court.”

An investigation is underway to determine the individual behind the leak. Steps are being taken to protect the cooperating witness.

“We are going to have to do things to make sure that the witnesses are safe,” Willis said. “We need people to understand that they can cooperate, they can do the right thing and the state will be here to protect them.”

As previously reported, Thugger, Gunna and 26 other YSL members were arrested for allegedly violating Georgia’s criminal racketeering law. Thug faces several charges, including participation in a criminal street gang, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a machine gun and drug possession. Thug has maintained his innocence, but the judge has repeatedly denied his bond requests.

The fact that Harry Styles stars in Don’t Worry Darling, the upcoming film directed by his girlfriend, Olivia Wilde, has drummed up more than the usual interest in the film. But Harry’s co-star Florence Pugh says even though she’s going to be seen onscreen in bed with one of the most lusted-after men in the world, that’s not a topic she plans to discuss when it comes time to promote the psychological thriller.

Speaking about the reaction back in May to the movie’s spicy trailer, Florence tells the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar, “When it’s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world [perform a sex act] on someone, it’s not why we do it. It’s not why I’m in this industry.”

Pugh says, “Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have conversations like that. That’s just not what I’m going to be discussing because [this movie is] bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are bigger and better than that.”

Referring to the film’s crew, including the nurses who were on set testing everyone for COVID, Pugh adds, “If I shout about one thing, it’s that these people made that movie happen. They came to work every day on time and fully respected the process.”

Don’t Worry Darling is set in the 1950s in a town where all the men — including Harry’s character — work at the same mysterious job, while the women are housewives. But when one wife disappears, Pugh’s character, Alice, starts questioning what’s really going on.

Glass Animals reflect on finally being able to tour 2 years after releasing ’Dreamland’
Republic

After a two-year wait, Glass Animals are finally on their long-awaited tour to promote their third album, Dreamland

The “Heat Waves” hitmakers caught up with Billboard at their concert in Brooklyn and marveled over being able to finally hit the road again. Dave Bayley, the group’s lead vocalist, admits he didn’t think the wait was going to be this long. The band was in the U.S. and performing at smaller venues when the pandemic struck.

“I honestly thought it was going to be two weeks,” he said. “We put everything in a truck and asked the truck to wait until we got back. We didn’t come back.”

Although disappointing, the band is thankful for the pause. The group was able to bring their tour plans back to the drawing board and create a more ambitious show. In addition, they began to experiment with their music.

“No one’s left a guidebook behind on how to release an album in a pandemic,” said Dave. “No one at the label knew how to put out an album in a pandemic.” Label execs said that they didn’t “have any ideas right now,” and Dave said it gave the band “free rein” to do what they wanted. “It was sort of amazing,” he recalled.

Glass Animals performed for their fans on Instagram Live and the group had fun with different filters, facial recognition software and more to enhance the experience. During that time, their song “Heat Waves” blew up on the charts — and so did their fame.

“I certainly haven’t sat down for a second and thought about how that song has [changed] and will change our lives,” said Dave.

When it comes to comfort foods, one of Miranda Lambert‘s go-to dishes is her mother’s meatloaf.

Growing up in Longview, TX, her mother Bev‘s homemade meatloaf was a favorite around the Lambert household, so much so that the singer would always request it on her birthday. She’s also partial to her father’s chicken-fried venison and her mom’s homemade barbecue sauce, with the “surprise ingredient” being a 1/4 cup of beer.

“It was handed down from my grandpa’s days in the military,” Miranda describes of the special sauce.

To make her mother’s meatloaf, the recipe calls for two pounds of ground beef, a pound of breakfast sausage, along with saltines or Ritz crackers. For an extra kick, she also incorporates bell pepper alongside chopped onion.

Rounding out the concoction is a blend of mustard, brown sugar, ketchup and a dash or Worcestershire sauce.
