The Rascals’ Felix Cavaliere and Gene Cornish teaming up for fall US tour

One half of the original lineup of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers The Rascals — singer/keyboardist Felix Cavaliere and guitarist Gene Cornish — are teaming up for a fall U.S. tour celebrating the legendary “blue-eyed soul” group’s musical legacy.

The Rascals Featuring Felix Cavaliere & Gene Cornish‘s Time Peace Tour 2022 currently includes five confirmed dates, all in the Northeastern U.S., running from a November 11 concert in Staten Island, New York, through a November 18 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. More dates are expected to be announced soon.

“We’re so grateful for the fans, this is for them,” says Cavaliere, who recently published an autobiography titled Memoir of a Rascal…From Pelham, NY to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Adds Cornish, who received a pacemaker in 2018 after collapsing on stage during a show, “This gives us another chance to play together and do it for the fans.”

Fans who come out to the shows can expect to hear such Rascals classics as “Good Lovin’,” “Groovin’,” “A Beautiful Morning,” “I’ve Been Lonely Too Long” and “People Got to Be Free.”

Prior to the Time Peace Tour, Cavaliere and his group Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals have a pair of co-headlining concerts lined up with Micky Dolenz of The Monkees on October 22 in Reno, Nevada, and October 23 in Phoenix.

Felix’s band also has a series of concerts in Hawaii running from January 26 through January 29.

It’s “Grand”: Kane Brown makes history at MTV Video Music Awards

Kane Brown has made plenty of history in his career, and now he’s just hit another milestone: On Sunday night, he became the first male country artist to perform on the MTV Video Music Awards.

While the VMAs took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, Kane’s performance took place in a separate location about 20 miles away in Fort Lee, New Jersey. He performed his song “Grand” on a stage lit up with neon green lights, while everyone in the cheering crowd wore matching green light-up bracelets.

Prior to the performance, Kane told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m kinda upset that I’m not singing a country song. But also, it’s kinda good because people will be like ‘Oh, this is a country artist. Why is he singing this song?’ Then hopefully, they go down a rabbit hole and they discover a lot more artists in the country world.”

“Grand” is the third single off his upcoming album, Different Man, set to drop September 9.

In addition to his performance, Kane was also nominated for Song of Summer for “Grand,” but lost to rapper Jack Harlow‘s hit “First Class.”

As for other country nominees, Kacey Musgraves was up for Best Longform Video for “star-crossed,” but she lost to Taylor Swift‘s short film of “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” which was also named Video of the Year. Back in 2009, Taylor became the first female country artist to perform on the VMAs.

Britney Spears gets candid about conservatorship in 22 minute audio clip

Britney Spears is opening up about life during her conservatorship.

On Sunday, the 40-year-old pop star shared a 22-minute audio clip to YouTube where she spoke about life during her 13-year conservatorship, which ended in November 2021.

In the audio clip, Britney began by saying, “I’ve had tons of opportunities— Oprah, interviews — to go on a platform and share hardships and, or anything going on my mind,” before revealing why she hasn’t accepted any.

“I think that’s kind of silly,” she said.

“I’m here honestly just to open myself to others and try to shed a light on…if anyone out there has ever gone through hardships or whatever it is, just to put a light on it and so that person doesn’t feel alone, because I really know what that feels like,” the singer continued.

Britney then went on to describe her experience during the conservatorship, making claims that her father, Jamie Spears, “loved to control everything [she] did” and wouldn’t let her “see anyone or anything.”

She also claimed there was a moment when “there was a SWAT team in my home, three helicopters,” while she was held “down on a gurney.”

The “Circus” singer also expressed confusion about her mother and sister, Lynn and Jamie Lynn Spears, actions after the #FreeBritney movement gained traction in 2017.

“The whole thing that makes it really confusing for me is people are on the street fighting for me but my sister and my mother aren’t doing anything,” she said. “I think that was the main thing that hurt me. I couldn’t process how my family went along with it for so long… And their only response was ‘we didn’t know.'”

The YouTube video containing these bombshell claims and more has since been set to private.

Dio spin-off group Last in Line, featuring Def Leppard’s Viv Campbell, announces fall US tour

Def Leppard currently is rocking the U.S. on The Stadium Tour with Mötley Crüe, Poison and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, but after that trek wraps up on September 9, guitarist Vivian Campbell will hit the road with his side group Last in Line for another stateside outing.

Last in Line’s tour kicks off September 23 in Laconia, New Hampshire, and currently is mapped out through a November 23 show in Huntington, New York. So far, 18 dates have been confirmed, but more are expected to be added.

The trek will support Last in Line’s A Day in the Life EP, which is due out on November 11 and will feature the band’s recently released cover of the famous Beatles song of the same name.

Last in Line was formed in 2012 as a tribute to the band Dio after frontman Ronnie James Dio‘s death from cancer in 2010. The group features two Dio alums — Campbell and ex-Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice — as well as singer Andrew Freedman and one-time Ozzy Osbourne bassist Phil Soussan.

Prior to joining Def Leppard in 1992, Campbell played with Dio from 1982 to 1986, while Appice was a member of Dio from ’82 until 1998.

Red Hot Chili Peppers honored with Global Icon VMA; Måneskin, Billie Eilish among other winners

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards took place Sunday night. Here are the rock artists who took home a Moon Person:

As was previously announced before the show, Red Hot Chili Peppers were recognized with the Global Icon Award. After an introduction from comedy duo Cheech & Chong, the band launched into renditions “Black Summer,” off their new album Unlimited Love, and the By the Way classic “Can’t Stop.”

The Peppers then gave a speech accepting the Global Icon Award, with drummer Chad Smith dedicating the honor to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Smith’s drum kit also paid tribute to Hawkins with a drawing of a hawk outlining the name Taylor.

Additionally, frontman Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea gave brief speeches, thanking their fans, bandmates, family and, in the case of Flea, “cockroaches” and “deer antlers.”

Meanwhile, RHCP’s “Black Summer” won Best Rock, Måneskin‘s “I Wanna Be Your Slave” was named Best Alternative and Billie Eilish‘s “Happier than Ever” earned Song of the Year.

Måneskin also performed, playing their new single “Supermodel” during their debut VMA appearance, though the feed cut away from the stage multiple times.

Panic! at the Disco performed, as well, with a rendition of the Viva Las Vengeance song “Don’t Let the Light Go Out.”

Taylor Swift’s new album ‘Midnights’ is coming October 21

Taylor Swift‘s first album of all-new material since 2020’s evermore will be here October 21.

The album is called Midnights, and on Instagram, she wrote that the album consists of “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.” When she won Video of the Year at the MTV VMAs on Sunday night, she teased the album by saying she’d give us the details “at midnight.”

“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams,” she wrote of the album. “The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching, hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes twelve…we’ll meet ourselves.”

Taylor also wrote, “We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t — right this minute — about to make some fateful, life-altering mistake.”

Since releasing the one-two punch of folklore and evermore in 2020, Taylor has released two re-recordings: Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version).

Taylor Swift makes history at MTV VMAs, announces new album coming in October

As soon as it was announced that Taylor Swift was going to appear on Sunday night’s MTV VMAs, fans probably suspected that she’d end up winning, and she did — making history in the process. Not only that, but she also announced that she’ll be putting out a brand-new album on October 21. She later revealed that it’s called Midnights.

Early in the night, Taylor’s 10-minute short film “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” won the Best Longform category. Taking the stage with her cinematographer and producer, she thanked fans for “this beautiful indication that we did something right,” and also thanked stars Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.

But “All Too Well” also took home two other notable awards: Video of the Year and Best Direction. That makes Taylor the only artist ever to win Video of the Year three times; she’d previously won for “Bad Blood” and “You Need to Calm Down.”

Plus, she’s now the first artist ever to win Video of the Year for a video that she directed by herself. Taylor co-directed her previous Video of the Year winner, “You Need to Calm Down.” And finally, Taylor’s now the only woman ever to win Best Direction twice: She previously won for her 2020 video “The Man.”

Other winners included Billie Eilish, Dove Cameron, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow, The Weeknd, BTS, BLACKPINK, Harry Styles, Doja Cat, Maneskin, Dove Cameron, Bad Bunny and Lizzo. The night’s sexiest performance came from Anitta, who also won Best Latin. She sang “Envolver” in a skin-tight jumpsuit while twerking and getting hot and heavy with a male dancer, and then, as she put it “shook her a**” to “Bola Rebola.”

And speaking of booties, the lead singer of Maneskin, Damiano David, performed in a thong and chaps that left his entire backside bare, and he turned around and showed it off for the crowd. Lil Nas X was more modest: He wore an outfit with strategically placed holes, but covered up his private parts onstage by holding his clutch in front of his crotch.

Performance highlights included Lizzo’s “About Damn Time/2 Be Loved (Am I Ready),” Video Vanguard winner Nicki Minaj‘s medley of her hits, including “Monster,” “Beez in the Trap,” “Super Bass,” “Anaconda” and “Super Freaky Girl,” BLACKPINK’s VMA debut with “Pink Venom,” Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s Metaverse performance of “From the D2 to the LBC,” and Marshmello and Khalid‘s “Numb,” with psychedelic visual effects.

In a nice touch, Avril Lavigne, who was named Best New Artist at the VMAs in 2002, presented the Moon Person trophy to this year’s winner, Dove Cameron. And speaking of the Moon Person, there was a lifesize one floating above the stage, and Johnny Depp’s face appeared digitally in the helmet throughout the night to say things like, “You know what? I needed the work.”

Arcade Fire’s Win Butler calls all relationships “consensual” in response to sexual misconduct allegations

Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler has been accused of sexual misconduct by four people interviewed in a piece published Saturday by Pitchfork.

Three different women, all of whom use pseudonyms in the piece, allege that Butler engaged in inappropriate sexual interactions with them between 2016 and 2020, when they were between 18 and 23 years old and he was between 36 and 39.

One woman, referred to as Stella, says that Butler sent her unwanted sexually explicit photos of himself, and asked for nude photos of her. The two other women, referred to as Sarah and Fiona, claim that Butler demanded that they send him sexually explicit videos of themselves. In Fiona’s case, the interactions led to an in-person sexual encounter.

Sarah and Fiona share that Butler took advantage of the power dynamic inherent in being a famous musician in convincing them to take part in the interactions.

The fourth person interviewed, who uses they/them pronouns and is referred to as Lily, alleges that they were sexually assaulted by Butler twice in 2015. Lily says they were 21 at the time, while Butler was 34.

In a statement to Pitchfork, Butler acknowledges that he had relationships with all four people, which took place during his marriage to longtime partner and Arcade Fire bandmate Régine Chassagne. However, he describes every relationship as being “mutual and always between consenting adults.”

“It is deeply revisionist, and frankly just wrong, for anyone to suggest otherwise,” Butler says. “I have never touched a woman against her will, and any implication that I have is simply false. I vehemently deny any suggestion that I forced myself on a woman or demanded sexual favors. That simply, and unequivocally, never happened.”

He adds, “While these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior.”

Ellefson-Soto premieres title track off upcoming ’Vacation in the Underworld’ album

Ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson and Sons of Apollo frontman Jeff Scott Soto have premiered a new song called “Vacation in the Underworld.”

The track is the title cut off the duo’s upcoming collaborative album, their first under their newly launched Ellefson-Soto moniker.
