(NOTE LANGUAGE) While Will Smith‘s slap of Chris Rock at the Oscars is still echoing throughout the Fresh Prince star’s career, some fans are turning the tide in his favor, thanks to a joke Rock recently made at the expense of Nicole Brown Simpson.

As reported, Rock recently told a comedy show crowd that he was asked to host the upcoming Academy Awards again, but he turned it down, comparing it to asking “Nicole Brown Simpson to go back to the restaurant.”

A forgotten pair of Brown’s sunglasses led waiter Ron Goldman to bring them to the Brentwood, California home of O.J. Simpson‘s ex-wife — and the grisly 1994 murder of both of them.

Some took to Twitter to do a little smacking of their own of the comic. “#WillSmith should’ve slapped #ChrisRock even harder for the s*** he is spewing,” one Twitter user commented.

“Another woman serving as foils for #ChrisRock’s ‘jokes.’ Dear #WillSmith, all is forgiven,” opined another.

One tweeted a photo of Will slapping Rock with the caption, “This mf is tasteless classless and CORNY ASF and always has been #slap #ChrisRock #again.”

Another Twitter user offered, “Let’s get people to take turns slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars every year.”

Another fumed, “Can the academy suspend Chris Rock over his Nicole Brown Simpson remark?… I think I understand where Will Smith was coming from better.”

Smith was banned from all Motion Picture Academy events for 10 years because of the incident, for which he’s repeatedly apologized.

Despite sexual misconduct allegations against frontman Win Butler, Arcade Fire‘s tour continued Tuesday in Dublin, Ireland.

The show, which marked the “Wake Up” outfit’s first since Pitchfork first reported the allegations on Saturday, was opened by Feist. While Feist has not publicly commented on the situation, photos posted to social media by attendees of Tuesday concert show signs displayed on the “1234” artist’s merch booth saying that sales would be donated to Women’s Aid Dublin, which was confirmed by Billboard.

The allegations against Butler, which came from four people interviewed by Pitchfork, range from sending unwanted sexually explicit photos and demanding such photos and videos from women aged 18 to 23 when he was between 36 and 39 to sexual assault.

In a statement to Pitchfork, Butler acknowledged having relationships with all four accusers, which took place during his marriage to longtime partner and Arcade Fire bandmate Régine Chassagne, but describes each encounter as “mutual and always between consenting adults.”

“I have never touched a woman against her will, and any implication that I have is simply false,” he said.

Arcade Fire’s tour is scheduled to continue Wednesday with another show in Dublin. The outing is set to come to the U.S. in October, with opener Beck.

Ellie Goulding said she suffered with imposter syndrome when she was entering the music business, especially when she was told her voice was too unusual to be a lead singer.

Speaking with Bustle, Ellie, who celebrates her third wedding anniversary today, opened up about an interaction she had at the start of her career that rocked her confidence.

“I’ve always remembered this guy telling me I should stick to playing guitar because I’m really good at guitar, that my voice was really quite unusual and not to everyone’s taste,” she recalled. “It made me really, really insecure.”

Ellie added she wasn’t very sure of herself back then and didn’t have it in her to tell the guy off, admitting, “I was really affected by what other people thought of me.” She added, “I had impostor syndrome; I didn’t think I deserved any success… I was so apologetic.”

Thankfully, she came into her own and has this advice to those who grapple with the same insecurities: “When you begin to shave off other people’s opinion of you rather than your opinion of yourself, your life becomes a lot clearer.”

And, if presented with the opportunity to speak to her younger, more insecure self, Ellie would tell her, “Please just believe in what you’re doing. Keep moving forward and stop waiting for other people’s validation in what you do and who you are as an artist and performer.”

Ellie knows it’s unlikely she will ever time travel, so she focuses now on improving her confidence and embracing who she is.

What’s helping her out is a resurgence of her 2010 hit “Lights,” which has blown up on TikTok. Ellie says she’s “thrilled” more people are discovering her music.

No, it’s not “a Bourbon Street steak with an Oreo shake”: Walker Hayes says that now that he’s got a lifetime Gold Card from Applebee’s, he tries to stay healthy in his menu selections.

“I’ve been trying to stay on the lighter side lately, because we eat so much of it,” the singer admits in an interview with Southern Living’s Biscuits & Jam podcast.

“Lately I’ve been doing the Southwest bowls,” he continues. “And the quesadilla burger is really, really good. But the spinach dip, man — I never go without getting the spinach dip.”

Of course, Walker’s Applebee’s association comes from “Fancy Like,” the megahit song that celebrates a night out at the chain restaurant with his family. But the singer says his relationship with Applebee’s dates all the way back to his teen years, when he and his wife, Laney, were just high school sweethearts.

“It’s crazy to think I used to steal my dad’s credit card and take Laney there when we were in 11th grade,” Walker recounts. “Who would’ve thought two kids sitting there eating a Bourbon Street steak, going, ‘One day you’re gonna write a song that basically just blows Applebee’s up?’”

ZZ Top has more than two dozen upcoming U.S. shows scheduled this fall as part of the famed Texas trio’s 2022 Raw Whiskey Tour.

Among the concerts are six late-September dates that will feature British rock-guitar legend Jeff Beck as an opening act; the first three also will include a set by Heart frontwoman Ann Wilson.

ZZ Top singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons notes that he’s performed with both Beck and Wilson before and says it’s possible that they may all end up onstage together during the upcoming shows, which are scheduled to take place in three different Texas cities — on September 23 in Del Valle, September 24 in Dallas and September 25 in the Houston suburb of The Woodlands.

“[I]t’s going to be a very interesting gathering, having an expanded lineup on the stage,” Gibbons tells ABC Audio. “Let’s go for it.”

Gibbons also reveals that he recently had a conversation with Beck, one of his guitar heroes, who mentioned a couple of ZZ Top songs he was hoping to jam on with the group.

“He said, ‘Listen … I’ve been polishing my chops. I got ‘La Grange’ down,'” Gibbons reports. “He said, ‘Can we do “Rough Boy”?’ I said, ‘Well, we’ve done it in the past … There’s no reason why we can’t stretch it out.'”

ZZ Top’s upcoming U.S. tour dates are mapped out from a September 17 concert in Catoosa, Oklahoma, through a November 13 show in Pompano Beach, Florida. The band’s 2022 itinerary winds down with a five-date Las Vegas residency at The Venetian Resort, scheduled from December 3 to December 10.

Shinedown‘s tour made a stop Sunday in frontman Brent Smith‘s hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee, where he received a surprise honor.

During the show, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs — also known to WWE fans as the wrestler Kane — got up onstage and presented Smith with a key to the city. The key was created by students of South-Doyle High School, which Smith graduated from in the ’90s.

Shinedown posted video of the key presentation on Facebook alongside a caption from a “speechless, humbled and beyond grateful” Smith.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined a moment like this, as I watched Kane take the stage, and proceed to address the crowd, and present me with the Key to the city of my hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee,” Smith writes. “Thank you to the Mayor. I am honored beyond belief. Thank you also to South-Doyle High School for creating the key. I appreciate you so much. I LOVE YOU KNOXVILLE.”

Shinedown is currently on tour in support of the band’s new album, Planet Zero, which dropped in July.

After Hardy dropped his much-buzzed-about duet with Lainey Wilson, “Wait in the Truck,” on Friday, the song saw an immediate impact at country radio — and the singer hopped on social media to express his excitement.

“Country radio, you guys are freaking incredible,” Hardy said in his video message.

“I’m very, very excited about the song. I’m just excited to see the run it’s gonna have, to see the impact it’s gonna have on people’s lives,” the singer continued.

“Wait in the Truck” grapples with themes of murder and domestic violence, with Hardy playing the role of a guy who runs into a girl — Lainey — on the side of a road after she’s been beat up. He finds the man who hurt her, kills him and eventually goes to jail — but still, he doesn’t regret changing the girl’s life for the better.

“[I’m] excited for the song to give people a platform to maybe speak out about stuff that might be going on in their own homes,” Hardy said when he first released the song.

Fans will get their chance to see Hardy sing “Wait in the Truck” live when he hits the road this December for his four-date Wall to Wall Tour.

Hasta la vista, Nine Inch Nails: ’Terminator 2’s’ Robert Patrick wanted “Head Like a Hole” for film’s soundtrack

If Arnold Schwarzenegger had different taste in music, Nine Inch Nails might’ve been featured on the Terminator 2 soundtrack.

In an interview with The Guardian, actor Robert Patrick, who played the villainous T-1000 in the 1991 sequel, shares that he asked director James Cameron to include NIN’s “Head Like a Hole” in the film.

“When I was making Terminator 2, I used to work out to ‘Head Like a Hole’ by Nine Inch Nails, because my younger brother, Richard Patrick, was a touring guitarist for them,” Robert recalls. Richard, of course, would then go on to form the band Filter.

When Robert pitched “Head Like a Hole” to Cameron to be included in the soundtrack, the filmmaker replied, “No. Arnold prefers Guns N’ Roses.”

GN’R, of course, would contribute their song “You Could Be Mine” to T2.

While being included on the soundtrack for the highest-grossing movie of 1991 would’ve probably been a welcomed boost for a then-up-and-coming Nine Inch Nails, it’s probably safe to say that Trent Reznor and company’s career still turned out just fine with their millions of albums sold and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And, as Robert notes, Reznor has had lots of success in the film world, too.

“It’s ironic because Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails has won a couple of Oscars for his soundtracks now,” Robert says.

By the way, Nine Inch Nails would eventually make their way into the Terminator franchise when a remixed version of their song “The Day the World Went Away” was used in the trailer for 2009’s Terminator Salvation.

Despite the increase of artists of color in the country music genre, racism is still very much alive and well both in country music and outside of it — and up-and-coming star Breland has seen its effects firsthand.

The singer says he’s “definitely” dealt with racism during his time in the genre, including receiving “nasty” messages — even some telling him to hurt himself. Ultimately, though, the singer says he’s able to shrug off the hate and focus on his growing, devoted fanbase.

“Ultimately, I know the place those messages come from, and that’s not the place that I create from,” Breland explains during a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.

“I operate from a place of love and acceptance and inclusion,” he continues. “I try to respond to everything with love and positive energy for the things that merit a response.”

Furthermore, he says, keeping that mindset helps him surround himself with supportive people in the industry.

“And I will also say that I tend to get the energy that I put out back,” he continues, adding that he hopes creating positive momentum can help create change in the country genre as a whole.

“I would love to see a country music genre that is as representative of different cultures and perspectives and beliefs and skin colors as the world,” Breland concludes.

The singer’s new album, Cross Country, arrives September 9.
