Newly unsealed documents reveal that the FBI tracked Aretha Franklin because she was involved in the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

A 270-page document shows the FBI paid special attention to the Queen of Soul’s many performances for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference civil rights organization.

The shows for the SCLC took place in Atlanta and Memphis between 1967 and 1968 and were labeled as “communist infiltration” events.

The FBI also tracked a scheduled performance at a Black Panther Party event that Aretha eventually canceled.

Bobby Seale, Chairman of the Black Panther Party, has directed the Los Angeles Black Panther Party to initiate plans for a major rally culminating in free food distribution to the poor black people in Los Angeles,” the document reads. “Source also advised that Gwen Goodloe wanted to contact Negro singing stars Aretha Franklin and Roberta Flack to possibly assist in the event.”

The FBI also linked the 18-time Grammy winner to the Black Liberation Army after reportedly finding Franklin’s address in BLA’s organization documents.

The bureau called the BLA a “quasi-military group composed of small guerrilla units employing the tactics of urban guerrilla warfare against the established order with a view toward achieving revolutionary change in America.” Due to insufficient evidence, the FBI concluded that Franklin’s association with the BLA could not be determined.

This week, Mitchell sits at #1 on the country charts with “Truth About You.” To honor the accomplishment, he and rapper/singer T-Pain attended Sunday’s matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

“I’ve got the number 1 song on country radio & I’m partying with @tpain today! Life is f****** good,” he writes alongside a post featuring photos of him flashing a #1 on the field and posing with T-Pain, and a video of “Truth About You” playing over the stadium speakers.

“Truth” is Mitchell’s second #1 hit following his debut single, “Drunk Me,” in 2018. It serves as the lead single off his sophomore album, This Is the Heavy. He originally released it on TikTok in 2021 and decided to make it an official radio single after it went viral.

Dove Cameron says “99 percent” of stories written about her aren’t true, especially if it’s about her being “a diva” or “mentally unwell.”

“I’ve seen a lot written about me,” she told Glamour of the “inaccurate” reports about her. She says most of these “surprising” stories are “assuming things about how I behave as a professional or a partner.”

“People will come up with these lengthy stories claiming to have witnessed something in my work environment, and it’s behavior that is so out of character for me — and that would literally never be tolerated on a set from anyone, even if they were the lead in a franchise,” the singer continued.

Although “there are a lot of misconceptions about Hollywood,” Dove says some headlines make her laugh.

“I am perpetually on time, social, and I always stay later than I have to because I love my job and I love humans,” the “Boyfriend” hitmaker quipped. “So, that’s always been funny for me to read.”

Dove also opened up about having to “dim my light for others to feel comfortable around me” when she was younger, noting she was labeled, “‘intense,’ ‘fiery,’ and ‘too much'” as a child.

“When I was first working as a teenager, I got to a point where I greatly diminished who I was so I could fit in and not overwhelm peers or adults I worked with,” she explained, noting that led to her being labeled “shallow” and “bubbly.”

Said Dove, “The reality was that I had gone to such great lengths to hide my intensity, my emotion, my trauma, and my intelligence as to not threaten or upset anyone around me.”

Because of this, her best life advice is to “honor yourself and do everything you can for yourself and your growth.”

Pearl Jam‘s concert at New York City’s Madison Square Garden Sunday coincided with the 21st anniversary of 9/11, so the grunge rockers honored the occasion with a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The show ended with guitarist Mike McCready shredding an instrumental rendition of the national anthem as the rest of the band looked on.

Fan-shot footage of the performance was posted to YouTube by user NKArch.

The MSG concert also featured a guest appearance by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, who joined in for PJ’s customary cover of Neil Young‘s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Additionally, Eddie Vedder gave a shout-out to tennis icons Serena and Venus Williams, who, according to Spin, were in attendance at the show.

With one more week to go before The Voice‘s new season on NBC, returning coach Gwen Stefani is laying out her case of why she deserves to win.

In a new promotional video, the Grammy winner declared she is “ready to take home another trophy” and told husband Blake Shelton to “watch out” because she’s “not playing nice.”

It should be noted that Blake does feel some pressure, noting his bride is “killing it.” New coach Camila Cabello also praises Gwen, saying if she had competed on the show, she would join Team Gwen.

Gwen revealed why she happily returned to the franchise, saying it “was built for people to shine and grow right before everyone’s eyes.”

“I just love to be here,” she continued, noting of the show’s “hopeful” tone. “Every time I come, I feel so grateful because I feel so inspired again about music.”

There was also a teaser of the upcoming first episode, where the “Sweet Escape” singer sits in her chair and admits she’s “having flashbacks.” She hasn’t been part of the show since its 19th season in 2020, which she won thanks to 16-year-old Carter Rubin.

Gwen first joined the franchise in 2014.

As for whether or not the singer will take home her second win, we’ll just have to tune in and see. The Voice returns for its 22nd season on September 19 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Ricky Martin faces new claims of sexual assault, team slams “wildly offensive” allegations

Ricky Martin is facing new sexual assault accusations after a complaint was filed in Puerto Rico on Friday.

People reports that the accuser’s identity and details pertaining to these new allegations have not been released to the public.

These claims comes days after Ricky launched a multi-million dollar lawsuit against his nephew, 21-year-old Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, who he claims tried to “assassinate” his reputation by accusing him of sexual abuse and stalking. Sanchez is the son of Ricky’s half-sister, Vanessa

Ricky was exonerated in July when a Puerto Rican court dismissed Sanchez’s request for a restraining order. Later, Sanchez withdrew his domestic abuse allegations and admitted under oath he was never assaulted by the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer.

The singer’s attorney, José Andréu-Fuentes, spoke to People about the new allegations and hinted Sanchez is behind this latest court battle, as well.

“These claims are wildly offensive and completely untethered from reality,” he said. “When this man previously made similar allegations, his legal case had to be withdrawn — not least because he himself admitted under oath that Ricky Martin had never assaulted him in any way.”

“Now, after being sued for trying to extort Mr. Martin, he is attempting to spread his lies again. It is beyond time that the media stops giving this deeply troubled individual the oxygen of publicity and allows him to get the help he so clearly needs,” Fuentes continued.

In Ricky’s suit against Sanchez, he called his nephew “maladjusted” and claimed Sanchez continues to threaten to “assassinate his reputation” unless “he is economically compensated.”

Ricky’s lawyers have said the singer and his family no longer feel safe in Puerto Rico because of Sanchez’s alleged threats.

It’ll be 30 years since Madonna released Erotica, and she’s celebrating the milestone with a special anniversary, yet long overdue, picture disc.

The Grammy winner will finally drop a limited edition 12-inch vinyl picture disc  — 30 years after she intended to release it. The disc was intended to accompany the arrival of the Erotica album, but shortly before it was set to hit the shelves, its release was canceled for being too explicit.

Copies of this picture disc were then destroyed, but a few survived the purge. Now, anyone can see the contents of this hotly sought-after collectible when it arrives on October 21.

This disc will include the colorized version of Madonna’s infamous “toe sucking” photo that made waves in Sex, her coffee table book that came out the same week as Erotica. In addition, it’ll also include three versions of the album’s title track — the album, instrumental and radio version.

To further celebrate, Madonna will release a new remix of her 2005 smash hit single “Hung Up” this Friday. The remix, which premiered in June as part of Madge’s Pride event at Terminal 5 in New York, features Tokischa.

Madonna released Erotica on October 20, 1992. It contained the hit singles “Fever,” “Rain,” “Deeper and Deeper,” “Bad Girl” and of course, its provocative title track.

The album has since sold over six million copies.

Pre-orders for the picture disc are now live on Madonna’s official online store and will cost roughly $25 to purchase.

Bring on a Bring It On sequel.

It’s been 22 years since the 2000 cheerleading comedy came on the scene and fans still can’t get enough of it. And apparently, neither can Gabrielle Union, who appeared in the classic pop culture film as Isis, the captain of the East Compton Clovers cheerleading team.

Addressing the rumors of a potential sequel in the works, the actress told Entertainment Tonight, “I’ve heard many takes over the years, but I’m hearing some really great takes from some big-name writers that are very surprising.”

Bring it On, baby, the gift the keeps on giving,” she added.

Union also dished on a potential storyline where her character is now a mother with a daughter following in her footsteps.

“Imagine if her daughter was, ya know, a high-stepper from Jackson State, Hawthorne State or Hampton. There’s so many forms of cheerleading that we don’t get to celebrate,” Union said. “The possibilities are endless.”
