My Policeman director Michael Grandage understands some people are going to see his movie just because Harry Styles is in it — and he is looking forward to that.

Speaking with Billboard, Grandage opened up about his thoughts on Harry’s fans flocking to theaters to see the film, which is set in 1950s England when homosexuality was prohibited. Harry stars as Tom, a closeted police officer engaging in an affair with a museum curator named Patrick, played by David Dawson.

Speaking of “the single most important and positive thing that might come out of this entire endeavor,” Grandage said the film will expose Harry’s “massive” fan base “to a story that shows something that they may not know.”

“I’m not going to suggest for the second that a lot of them will know a bit about political gay history of the past, but a fair amount of them, it’s worth assuming, probably don’t know anything about what it was like in 1957 England,” he continued.

Grandage, who is gay, says he has “great confidence” in the younger generation because he says they are “the first seriously unprejudiced generation I’ve been aware of.”

Noting the “forward-thinking people” within that group, the director expressed the underlying importance of exposing them to the uncomfortable truths of queer history.

“If that amount of people with that amount of belief system see that this is the place we could return to, then for me, they may be part of a debate that makes sure that doesn’t happen,” said Grandage. “And for that reason alone, My Policeman becomes a very significant part of the story.”

My Policeman, also starring The Crown‘s Emma Corrin, debuts in theaters on October 21 and will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on November 4.

Toadies have released a new EP called Damn You All to Hell.

The four-track collection includes three previously unreleased originals, as well as a cover of the David Bowie song “Sound and Vision.” Two of the originals, and the Bowie cover, were first recorded during the sessions for the latest Toadies album, 2017’s The Lower Side of Uptown, while the other dates back to sessions for 2008’s No Deliverance.

Damn You All to Hell arrives just as Toadies are finally set to launch their 25th anniversary Rubberneck tour, which had originally been scheduled for 2020 before getting pushed back two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The outing kicks off Tuesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Rubberneck, of course, features the signature Toadies song “Possum Kingdom.” The 1994 record is certified Platinum by the RIAA.

A lawsuit against Taylor Swift is going to trial. Rolling Stone reports trial in the copyright lawsuit against her 2014 hit “Shake It Off” will commence in January. U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald rejected the singer’s plea to dismiss Sean Hall and Nathan Butler‘s suit, which claims she stole the lyrics to their 2001 song “Playas Gon’ Play.”

Alessia Cara shared one of her “dressing room sessions” to Instagram, where she sings an acoustic version of “Lie to Me.” The Grammy winner is joined by Dan Kanter for the stripped-down performance.

Bruno Mars bartended in Boston over the weekend, where he was hosting a three-show run at the new MGM Music Hall in Fenway. Boston.com reports the hitmaker took over the Envoy Hotel’s rooftop bar and was pouring shots of his SelvaRey Rum. This isn’t the first time Bruno played bartender and fans wanting to catch a drink with him hope it won’t be the last.

Christina Aguilera has unfollowed Britney Spears on Instagram. This comes after Britney commented on the size of Christina’s backup dancers and fans accused her of fat-shaming. Britney later clarified she was projecting her insecurities onto the “Beautiful” singer, claiming her parents hired tour dancers who made her feel insecure about her body while Christina seemingly was able to hire whoever she wanted.

Andy Grammer is relating hard with fellow parents of young kids. Taking to his Instagram Story, he shared a photo of a woman being hauled away by police — as in they’re carrying her away and the smiling woman is not making it easy. Andy captioned it, “When the toddler’s having fun and you say it’s time to go.”

Doja Cat has taught her dogs how to skateboard. The Grammy winner revealed to CR Fashionbook she recently adopted two pit bulls, who are now “11 weeks old,” and that she cannot wait to bring them to the beach to “go surfing.” Doja adds her pups are “so smart” and that the dogs are “getting on the board on their own.”

Jamie Spears says Britney Spears should be forced to sit for a deposition — not the other way around. TMZ reports the patriarch filed his request with the California Court of Appeals, citing why he wants Britney to be deposed. “Discovery is a matter of right,” the argument reads, noting Britney has made multiple accusations against him that she should be questioned about under oath.

Mark David Chapman, the man who shot music legend John Lennon to death in December 1980, has been denied parole for the 12th time, according to the New York State Department of Corrections
and Community Supervision.

Chapman, 67, was turned down by the Board of Parole following an interview August 31. He will now have to wait 18 months, until February 2024, before his request for parole will be reviewed again.

Chapman is currently incarcerated at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Beekman, New York. He was transferred to the prison earlier this year after spending many years at the Wende Correctional Facility outside of Buffalo, New York.

Chapman received a sentence of 20 years to life in August 1981, after he pleaded guilty to shooting the former Beatles star outside of Lennon’s apartment in Manhattan on December 8, 1980.

Chapel Hart will be getting a little help from Darius Rucker this week on America’s Got Talent.

The country superstar will join Danica HartDevynn Hart and Trea Swindle for a collaborative performance of one of his favorite songs on the season 17 finale.

Chapel Hart went viral with their audition performance of their original song, “You Can Have Him Jolene,” in July. They became the second act in the show’s history to receive a Golden Buzzer that advanced them to the next round and ultimately secured a spot in the finale, where they’re up against 10 other acts.

“Like so many people, I was blown away when I saw Chapel Hart’s original response to ‘Jolene’ during their audition. Their energy on that stage has been contagious to watch and I’m honored they asked me to be part of their finale experience – especially to perform one of my favorite songs of all time!” Darius says in a statement.

After seeing the audition, the Hootie & the Blowfish member revealed that he’d invited Chapel Hart to appear on his next album.

AGT airs live Wednesday on NBC at 8 p.m. ET. Chapel Hart will also make their Grand Ole Opry debut on September 17.

Two decades after he woke up in a car, Andrew McMahon woke up 40 years old. To celebrate the occasion, he got Something Corporate back together.

The long-defunct band, which has been on hiatus since 2011, reunited for a six-song set during McMahon’s 40th birthday concert, which was held last Friday in Anaheim, California.

“Truthfully, it’s rare that all of us can even get together, and the guys from Something Corporate are all individually successful in their own rights and other businesses,” McMahon tells Alternative Press of the reunion. “It felt like, ‘Here’s a chance where we don’t have to make it a show about that, but also have them play some songs with me and a chance for us to freak out together.'”

You can watch a recap video of the Something Corporate performance now via McMahon’s Instagram.

After Something Corporate first went on hiatus in the mid-2000s, McMahon launched his Jack’s Mannequin project. He now releases music under the solo moniker Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, which produced the single “Cecilia and the Satellite.”

The latest Wilderness release is the track “Stars,” which premiered in August.
