The deluxe reissue of The Beatles‘ classic 1966 album Revolver was released Friday, October 28, in multiple configurations.

Revolver originally was released in August 1966 and spent multiple weeks at #1 in both the U.S. and the U.K. The album captured the Fab Four moving into the psychedelic era with an adventurous and experimental collection of tunes that explored various musical genres.

Producer Giles Martin, who oversaw the reissue and helped create a new mix of the album, explains to ABC Audio, “[The Beatles] ripped up the rulebook with Revolver … They had [songs like] ‘Eleanor Rigby,’ ‘Tomorrow Never Knows,’ ‘And Your Bird Can Sing,’ ‘Taxman.’ It’s like Revolver is an album of about seven different bands, but all good ones.”

Besides the new mix, the deluxe package also includes the original mono mix of the album; 31 tracks of session outtakes and demos; a four-song EP featuring the non-album tracks “Paperback Writer” and “Rain”; and a 100-page hardbound book.

Giles says some of the interesting bonus tracks include alternate versions of “Got to Get You into My Life” and “Rain,” and an early demo of “Yellow Submarine” featuring John Lennon on vocals.

One alternate version of “Got to Get You into My Life” features fuzz guitar and lacks the song’s trademark horns. A “Rain” outtake features the song at the speed it was actually recorded — the version that was originally released was slowed down.

There are also multiple tracks that show how “Yellow Submarine” developed from a melancholy tune sung by Lennon to the upbeat sing-along featuring Ringo Starr on lead vocals.

“[I]t’s development to how it is now is really surprising, and it’s worth listening to,” says Giles.

The Who‘s Roger Daltrey and contemporary British rocker Yungblud interview each other for the latest installment of Rolling Stone‘s “Musicians on Musicians” series.

During the conversation, Daltrey, 78, tells Yungblud he thought the 25-year-old singer’s latest album was “uplifting” and praises the way he uses “the crowd-singing sound” in his mixing.

Roger goes on to complain that a lot of popular music in recent years has lacked strong vocals and harmonies, then discusses why he loves The Beach Boys.

“When you listen to the songs of the Beach Boys and the harmonies and all that stuff, it truly lifts your spirits,” Daltrey notes. “We really need it these days. Too many solo voices singing mediocre lyrics.”

The rockers also share negative opinions about the reality singing competition The Voice.

Daltrey says he was asked to be a judge on show — presumably the U.K. version — but he declined.

“I’m not gonna judge anyone’s singing,” Daltrey insists. “You’re only gonna squash their spirit, whatever you say.”

Yungblud, meanwhile, reveals that before his career took off, he was approached by a label that wanted to have him compete on The Voice.

“I was like, ‘No f***ing way,'” he recalls.

“I remember them saying, ‘We’ll put you on The Voice, and if you win it, we’ll sign you. But you can’t sing about politics,'” he continues. “I was starting to write about sexuality, fashion, gender … And I just said no.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Daltrey and Yungblud talk about The Who’s influence on fashion during the 1960s, the way social media affects today’s artists and their mutual love of Oasis.

“I wish [Oasis] would just get back together,” Daltrey says.

FINNEAS has revealed that he recently underwent surgery after getting into an accident while riding his electirc bike.

In an Instagram post, the “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night” artist writes, “Last Friday, I had the pleasure of crashing my electric bike, flying over the handlebars and absolutely demolishing my collarbone as well as sustaining a radial head fracture to my right elbow.”

FINNEAS shares that he’s now “on the other side” of the operation and is “feeling great.” He also thanks his doctors, family and girlfriend for their support, and notes that he’s working on recovering in time for his sister and collaborator Billie Eilish‘s three shows in Los Angeles this December.

“As foolish as I felt after the fall, my prevailing emotion is gratitude,” FINNEAS says. “You see, I was not wearing a helmet. Lesson forever learned.”

“I feel so lucky to still be here,” he adds, “Take care of yourselves, thank your bodies for all that they do for you.”

Thursday, October 27, marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Stevie Wonder‘s classic 15th studio album, Talking Book.

The 10-track collection peaked at #3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, making it Wonder’s highest-charting album up to that time. The album features two of Stevie’s most enduring songs, “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “Superstition,” which both reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Talking Book marked a continuation of Wonder’s experimentation with synthesizers in collaboration with electronic music pioneers Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff that he began on his previous album, 1972’s Music of My Mind.

Among the noteworthy guest artists who contributed to the album were guitarist Jeff Beck and Ray Parker Jr., singer Deniece Williams and sax player David Sanborn.

Wonder took home three Grammy Awards for Talking Book at the 1974 Grammys ceremony — Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for “Superstition.” Cecil and Margouleff, meanwhile, won the Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, prize for their work on the record.

Talking Book was ranked #59 on Rolling Stone‘s 2020 list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

Here’s the album’s full track list:

Side One
“You Are the Sunshine of My Life”
“Maybe Your Baby”
“You and I (We Can Conquer the World)”
“Tuesday Heartbreak”
“You’ve Got It Bad Girl”

Two new clips from Selena Gomez‘s forthcoming tell-all documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, have been shared, providing fans a sneak peek into the tone and nature of the film.

In a brief teaser shared on Apple TV+’s YouTube — titled “Do You Know Who This Is?” — Selena runs into one of her old school friends, who is now a mom of three.

The woman asks her eldest daughter if she knows who they’re speaking with, which causes the young girl to scream and run around in excitement once she recognizes Selena. The woman tells Selena how happy she is to see her healthy, adding it was “real scary” watching the singer struggle with her mental health.

Vanity Fair posted another exclusive clip, which documents Selena coming to terms with being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“I didn’t know how to cope with my diagnosis,” the TikTok clip begins, showing Selena getting out of bed and opening the window blinds. She speaks about coming out of one of her episodes and fearing it would happen again.

“What if I don’t come back,” she wonders, before explaining that she came to terms with the disorder by reading about it. She describes how she used to be fearful of thunderstorms as a child because she believed they brought tornadoes, but her mother urged her to read about weather to understand thunder and lightning.

She recalls her mother telling her, “The more you learn about it, the less afraid you’re going to be afraid of it.”

Fans will be able to stream the complete documentary next Friday, November 4, on Apple TV+.

Never let it be said that Katy Perry can’t make fun of herself.

A video of Katy onstage in Las Vegas went viral earlier this week because it showed her seemingly being unable to keep one of her eyes open. This led to many online jokes about Katy “glitching,” “downloading,” being a robot or a clone, or being a member of the Illuminati. So now Katy’s using that video to announce she’s extending her Las Vegas residency show, PLAY, into 2023.

“Welcoming all my #flatearthers, #spaceisfakers, #birdsarentrealers, #skyisntbluers to come see my broken doll eye party trick IRL in Vegas next year!” she captioned the video on Instagram. “The show’s set list is a fun [roller-coaster ride] through memory lane going all the way back to 2008, a time when we weren’t all frozen by the paranoia of our own echo chambers!”

She continues, “This show is a nonstop party about finding unconditional love and strangely (for me) not political at all. Heck I pour beer out of my t**s (that’s a party trick too… I don’t actually lactate hops silly goose!). Hope to sing along with you in 2023! And we’ll drink, this one’s on me, cause we’re all #chainedtothealgorithm.”

The text over the video of Katy’s one-eyed moment says, “POV: When you see new 2023 PLAY dates.”

The new dates comprise 14 shows in all, running in three blocks: February 15 to February 25, March 3 and 4, and April 5 to April 15. Tickets for the shows go on sale November 4 at 10 a.m. PT.

PLAY, at Resorts World Theatre, launched December 29, 2021.

Here are the new dates:

February 2023: 15, 17, 18, 22, 24, 25

March 2023: 3, 4

April 2023: 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15

When Lainey Wilson walks the red carpet at the 2022 CMA Awards next month, she’ll have a very special plus-one on her arm: her dad, Brian.

“He is out [of the hospital],” Lainey explained during a recent interview with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music’s Today’s Country Radio. “He’s going to walk the red carpet with me.”

Lainey and her father have always been close, but after he experienced a difficult summer of health setbacks and a two-month hospital stay, it’s even more meaningful for the rising star to get to experience the moment with her dad by her side.

The singer has kept fans in the loop about her dad’s health journey and asked for their prayers, especially when she had to cancel a couple of shows earlier this year to be with family.

Now, she says, his recovery is still underway.

“It’s incredible. He was in the hospital for two months,” she details. “He was in a rehab facility for three and a half weeks, and then he just had his 60th birthday. He’s still got a long way to go, but he’s here. He had nine surgeries in a month and a half…He had a stroke on top of all that. But he is a tough son of a gun.”

Lainey’s no slouch herself: The breakout star is the most-nominated artist at the 2022 CMA Awards with six nods. She’s also scheduled to perform with Hardy at the show; they just released a duet called “Wait in the Truck.”

The 2022 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on ABC on November 9.
