Billie Eilish opened up about the price she paid growing up in the public eye, which she says was a downward spiral of imposter syndrome.

Speaking with BBC, the 20-year-old singer opened up about becoming an overnight sensation at the age of 14, when her song “Ocean Eyes” went viral. “Growing up in the public eye is a very bruising experience, and it’s really hard to develop and change,” the singer said. “I didn’t know what to do so I was grasping at straws.”

“I just had such severe imposter syndrome. I’ve had that so many times in my life,” she continued. Billie said she was swept up in a “downward spiral of imposter syndrome” between 2020 and 2021.

She said what helped her through those moments was gaining more trust from people in the industry. “Being a female at all and especially being a very young female especially in this industry — it’s, like, it’s very hard to make people believe in you,” she divulged.

While Billie admits she understands “to an extent” why she was met with resistance early on, she added, “When I finally had control was a really good moment.”

“I feel the most powerful when I feel masculine … I like to feel more masculine than feminine. It just makes me feel better,” the singer disclosed, adding she initially struggled with those feelings because she “wanted to feel feminine and like it.”

Billie says she now balances both her masculinity and femininity, which she expresses with how she moves and looks. She said being able to exhibit both traits makes her feel good.

Red Hot Chili Peppers have joined the billion views club on YouTube.

The band’s video for “Californication,” which reimagines Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith as video game characters, has officially passed the milestone, making it the first Peppers clip to reach 1 billion views.

“Californication” is the title track off RHCP’s 1999 album. It’s now one of several videos from the ’90s with 1 billion views, along with Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Guns N’ Roses‘ “November Rain,” AC/DC‘s “Thunderstruck,” Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters,” R.E.M.‘s “Losing My Religion,” The Cranberries‘ “Zombie,” 4 Non Blondes‘ “What’s Up” and Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You.”

Even without the billion views news, Red Hot Chili Peppers were already having a big week with the announcement of a 2023 world tour in support of their two 2022 albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen.

Carly Pearce will return to the stage of The Voice this week, performing her current single, “What He Didn’t Do,” during the semifinal results episode of the show.

Carly has performed on The Voice before — she hit the stage in late 2021 to perform the title track of her 29 album — but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have jitters this time around.

“This show makes me very nervous because I have to sing in front of people like Camila Cabello and John Legend and Gwen Stefani and my tourmate, Blake Shelton. So, I might throw up,” the singer tells her record label ahead of her performance.

The singer is joining Blake on his Back to the Honky Tonk arena tour in 2023, along with newcomer Jackson Dean. He’s a big hero of hers, both musically and in terms of his work on the show, Carly says.

“I think about what he has done for country music by being on that show, his humor, his talent, his awareness of what artists need to go from that show to becoming superstars,” she explains. “I just think he’s everybody’s best friend, and I think he was always that, but The Voice made everybody in America and beyond aware of that.”

The episode featuring Carly will air live tonight on NBC. Blake will also take the stage to perform his single “No Body,” and John will sing “Nervous,” off his new album, Legend.

Ex-Fleetwood Mac member Billy Burnette remembers putting together Clinton inauguration gig

In the early ’90s, Fleetwood Mac‘s “Don’t Stop” became synonymous with Bill Clinton, who used the song to soundtrack his 1992 presidential campaign. The response was so huge that the band reunited with guitarist Lindsey Buckingham to play “Don’t Stop” at Clinton’s inauguration in 1993. As it turns out, the person who helped put that performance together was Buckingham’s replacement.

Billy Burnette first joined Fleetwood Mac in 1987 after Buckingham’s departure that year amid heated turmoil among the band members. He continued to play with the group through the “Don’t Stop” phenomenon, during which he got a call from Clinton’s vice president, Al Gore, who he’d previously met.

“I put together that gig,” Burnette tells Rolling Stone. “I learned that Tipper Gore‘s favorite song was ‘Don’t Stop.’ It had nothing to do with the Clintons. Al asked me to call the managers and see if we’d do something at the inaugural.”

“I called everybody and got everybody together to do it,” he continues. “And then Stevie [Nicks] calls and asks if it would be OK if Lindsey played with them instead of me.”

Burnette would rejoin Fleetwood Mac after the inauguration, though his time in the band ended shortly thereafter in 1995, after which Buckingham rejoined. When Buckingham again left Fleetwood Mac in 2018 and was replaced by Neil Finn and Mike Campbell, Burnette says he “didn’t understand” why he wasn’t called.

“I got really upset with Mick [Fleetwood] about that,” Burnette says, though he adds he “got over it real quick.”

In other Fleetwood Mac news, the band’s iconic 1977 album Rumours is headed toward the top 10 on the United Kingdom’s Official Albums Chart. Sales of the record have jumped following the death of keyboardist, vocalist and songwriter Christine McVie, who passed away November 30 at age 79.

Beyoncé‘s “Break My Soul” is now certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. To celebrate the feat, the singer dropped a “Hive Certified” video compilation featuring members of the BeyHive, her loyal fanbase, jamming to the dance track.

“BREAK MY SOUL is Certified Platinum,” she captioned the video. “Thank you so much for all the love and for releasing the wiggle.”

“Break My Soul” and its album Renaissance both dropped over the summer, but Bey has yet to release an official music video. Back in August, she teased fans with a short clip of the music video for another song off the project, “I’m That Girl.”

Ahead of their holiday special, the Backstreet Boys have released a new music video for their song “Christmas in New York.”

The music video is a hybrid of live action and stop motion animation, which sees the band and a few colorful characters enjoying the holidays in the Big Apple.

The offering comes just days before their Christmas special, A Very Backstreet Holiday, premieres on ABC. The spectacular celebrates the band’s new holiday album, A Very Backstreet Christmas, and will see them performing songs off their new body of work.

It was also announced a few special guests will assist with the December 14 show. Joining Backstreet will be Meghan Trainor, comedian Nikki Glaser and others while actor Seth Rogen takes over narration duty.

AJ McLean told Variety, “We collectively — us and ABC — have been reaching out to special guests and putting together our dream list to see who was available.”

Nick Carter added now was the perfect time to put on a holiday spectacular. “I think the Backstreet Boys bring a very nostalgic feeling from a particular time in their lives that are so special to them and important,” he said. “Everyone in the world knows a lot of Christmas songs, they’ve grown up with them and they celebrate the holidays together. They’re just a part of people’s lives, so we’re just happy to have a little part of that.”

A Very Backstreet Holiday premieres Wednesday, December 14, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

TIME magazine crowned BLACKPINK 2022’s entertainer of the year, making them the first girl group to ever secure the honor.

The outlet says BLACKPINK — comprised of members JennieJisoo, Lisa, and Rosé — earned the title for multiple reasons. The K-pop group is the most followed musical act on YouTube, boasting over 83 million subscribers. Secondly, their sophomore effort, Born Pink, sold over 2 million copies since its September release, which makes them the Korean girl group with the best-selling album.

TIME also lauded BLACKPINK for their influence on fashion. Examples of their fashion dominance include Jennie’s ambassadorship for Chanel, Jisoo’s work with Dior, Lisa’s partnership with luxury brand Seline and Rosé making waves at last year’s Met Gala with her head-turning Saint Laurent gown. She also is a brand ambassador for the company.

The magazine also noted BLACKPINK is still on tour and has roughly 20 more dates to complete. As for their plans for the future, Jennie told the outlet, “Now we know how to take care of ourselves a little better … We try to be prepared in terms of our health and our mental health.”

“My No. 1 rule is not to look ahead, and enjoy every day, because it gets too overwhelming once we start planning a year ahead, two years ahead,” she added.

Aside from being “rock stars,” per Rosé’s words, Jennie notes the group has worked extremely hard to be where they are.

“We put in a lot of work so we could look like superwomen,” she said. “We’re very normal girls, at the end of the day.”

“The first round of the Rockzilla tour was such a great time that we had to keep the party going,” says Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix. “We can’t wait to be back on the road with these talented bands and share an evening of non-stop rock with even more friends around the US and Canada.”

Tickets go on sale this Friday, December 9, at 10 a.m. local time. For the full list of dates and all ticket info, visit RockzillaTour.com.

Papa Roach released a new album called Ego Trip in April. Falling in Reverse’s most recent release is the May single “Voices in My Head.”

Mickey Guyton named TIME’s 2022 Breakthrough Artist of the Year

Mickey Guyton named TIME’s 2022 Breakthrough Artist of the Year
ABC

Mickey Guyton is TIME’s inaugural Breakthrough Artist of the Year, representing a category that is brand-new for 2022.

Her new accolade comes in recognition of her status as one of country music’s change-makers, and an artist who represented the genre on some of the most visible stages of the year. In 2022, Mickey sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl, hosted PBS’ A Capitol Fourth Independence Day special and became the first Black nominee for Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards.

Mickey tells TIME that after she started to become more vocal about racial inequality in country music, artists began to reach out to her behind the scenes, asking how they could help enact change.

“A lot of them did start finding musicians of color for their bands,” she says, adding that she is seeing change happen within the genre, though there’s still significant room for improvement. “If you study the country music charts, they’re against women and people of color.”

Case in point: White men performed all the No. 1 songs on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart this year — and only a few women and non-white artists made it to the top of the Country Airplay chart — and Mickey says that’s “frustrating.”

“There are so many incredible singers out there and we’re just accepting the crumbs,” she continues. “…But these are peoples’ lives and careers that you’re deciding.”

TIME also named its 2022 Entertainer of the Year: All-female K-pop band BLACKPINK. The publication will reveal its 2022 Person of the Year on Wednesday morning.

It appears new Coldplay music is in the works.

In a tweet Monday, frontman Chris Martin reveals that the “Viva La Vida” outfit is currently “in the studio.”

“We send you all much love,” Martin adds.

The post also includes a list of some of Martin’s favorite songs at the moment, including The 1975‘s “Looking For Somebody (to Love)” and BTS member RM‘s “Yun” featuring Erykah Badu.

Coldplay’s most recent album is 2021’s Music of the Spheres, which features the single “Higher Power” and the hit BTS collaboration “My Universe.”

As exciting as the prospect of more new Coldplay music is, that will only bring us closer to the band’s final album. Martin previously told NME that the group will stop making records after their 12th studio effort — Music of the Spheres is their ninth — and later revealed to BBC Radio 2 that the final album will arrive by 2025.
