The late Warren Zevon is one of this year’s nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the news left his children pretty emotional.

“When I first saw it, tears came to my eyes first and then sort of the shock of it being 20 years later since he passed away,” daughter Ariel tells Billboard. “It feels like a significant moment for the Zevon family.” Son Jordan adds, “I’m excited. I had to wake up at 4:50 in the morning to get the news firsthand, so I’m very caffeinated and possibly a little dizzy, but I’m excited.”

As for how they think their dad would have taken the news, Jordan says, “There’s this misconception that dad wouldn’t have cared.” He added, “It’d be like, ‘Hey Johnny, hey Ariel, guess what?!’ It would have been, ‘It’s a big deal.’ It was his business. He wanted to be good at it. You want to win, you know, best plumber of the year.”

Ariel says she feels like her father’s music resonates with a lot of people these days, noting, “I would say that’s a good sign of somebody who probably deserves to be recognized, for a contribution to the arts, just generally speaking.”

“I just think the quality of the music and the songwriting, it’s such a different level, and I think that he put so much care into it,” Jordan adds. “And commercial put aside, quality-wise he still kept writing some songs that I think are just really, truly amazing, throughout his career. I just think he is pretty f–king good!”

Carey added that Tool will play a number of festivals this summer. The group has already been announced to play the Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple festivals.

Tool played their most recent live show at last year’s Bonnaroo. They’ve been touring over the past couple years in support of their 2019 comeback album, Fear Inoculum.

Beyoncé fans in UK say Renaissance Tour presale is a “fiasco”

Looks like Ticketmaster might have to worry about the Beyhive soon because some of Beyoncé‘s British fans are having trouble getting tickets to her tour.

Bey announced the Renaissance Tour, her first in about seven years, on Wednesday, and some select venues are already having a presale — such as London’s O2 Arena. Unfortunately, it appears people are having the same kind of difficulties Taylor Swift fans had when it comes to buying presale tickets for the tour.

One angry member of the Beyhive called the presale a “waste of time” after waiting in line behind 200,000 people and leaving left empty-handed. Numerous stories with similar claims began flooding Twitter, with some calling the presale another fiasco due to site crashes, long wait times, glitches in the queue and other difficulties.

Here in the U.S., ticket presales start February 6 for those who signed up via Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan technology at beyonce.livenation.com.

Insiders agree this marks a new test for Ticketmaster, which is looking to redeem itself following the disastrous rollout of the Swift presale.

The Hollywood Reporter says demand for Bey’s Renaissance Tour is predicted to rival that of Taylor’s tour. Ticketmaster released a statement about the changes it made to ensure more tickets wind up in fans’ hands.

“It’s expected there will be more demand than there are tickets available and a lottery-style process will determine which registered Verified Fans receive a unique access code for the sale and which are put on the waitlist,” the company said.

On this day, February 2, 1942…

Singer/songwriter Graham Nash was born in Blackpool, England. He first gained fame in the early 60s as a member of the Hollies, and then in 1968 he teamed with Stephen Stills and David Crosby to form Crosby, Stills & Nash, with Neil Young joining them a year later. They performed their second-ever gig together at Woodstock. Their first album as a foursome, 1970’s Déjà Vu, went to number one.

Nash has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice:as a member of Crosby, Stills, & Nash in 1997, and again as a member of the Hollies in 2010. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2010 Birthday Honours List for services to music and to charity.

Nash is scheduled to start a new tour on April 12 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

Sheryl Crow has been a fixture at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies for many years, but now she’s got a chance to be there as an inductee herself. On Wednesday, she was announced as a nominee for induction into the Rock Hall’s Class of 2023.

“I just want to say I’m so honored and just, I’m blown away! I’m blown away,” Sheryl says in a video message on Instagram. “I can’t believe I’m nominated to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”

“I’ve been to the Rock Hall of Fame when it wasn’t televised and got to see Bob Dylan … [and] Fleetwood Mac I got to induct,” she continued. “I got to see Prince and Tom Petty, and obviously, the people that have influenced me and brought me to where I am and made me want to be what I am and made me want to do what I’m doing for all these years are in the Hall of Fame. So it just feels monumentally sacred.”

She concluded, “I just want to say thank you to the powers that be here or whoever put me on that list. It’s just, it really means so much to me. So thank you.”

John Mayer wrote in the comments, “You’re a shoo-in!!

We’ll find out in May who the official inductees will be. Sheryl is nominated along with 13 other acts, including Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Missy Elliott, The Spinners, Soundgarden, Iron Maiden and Rage Against the Machine.

Speaking of Willie, Sheryl also did a separate post showing them together and wrote, “Congrats to my friend and hero @willienelsonofficial for his @rockhall Hall Of Fame nomination! Long overdue but so happy to be nominated along with you!”

It’s been a six-year wait that for fans has felt longer, but Bruce Springsteen and the E Street were back on stage in Tampa Wednesday night treating fans to a set filled with a mix of new tracks and classic cuts.

Fans were treated to several songs off 2020‘s Letters to You album, including the title track, “Ghosts,” “House of a Thousand Guitars,” “Burnin’ Train” and a solo acoustic version of “Last Man Standing,” which The Boss dedicated to his former Castiles bandmate George Theiss, who passed away in 2018.

“His passing would leave me as the last surviving member of my first band, so it’s kind of like standing on the tracks with the hot light of an oncoming train bearing down on you,” Springsteen told the crowd, according to the Asbury Park Press. “It brings a clarity of thought and a purpose that you might have not previously experienced.” He added, “At 15 it’s all hellos. At 73 it’s a lot of goodbyes. That’s why you have to make the most of right now.”

The set list also included two songs from Bruce’s Only the Strong Survive solo album, “Night Shift,” and “Don’t Play That Song,” along with lots of old favorites, including the opener “No Surrender,” “Rosalita,” “Born to Run,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “Glory Days” and more, along with some deeper cuts like “Kitty’s Back” and “E Street Shuffle.”

The Boss ended the night with another solo acoustic performance, the Letters to You track “I’ll See You in My Dreams.”

Next up, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s bring the tour to Atlanta, Georgia on Friday.

John Legend reveals meaning behind daughter Esti’s name

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are keeping it all in the family when it comes to their daughter Esti‘s name.

While speaking with E! News, the “All of Me” singer, who welcomed his third child, Esti Maxine Stephens, with his wife on January 13, shared that the name was all Teigen’s idea and it was only later that they realized it had a family connection.

“It turns out, my great-grandmother was named Esther,” Legend said, adding, “It wasn’t intentionally after someone, but once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther.'”

The newborn’s middle name also bears a family connection, which the 44-year-old said was more intentional.

“We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine,” he shared. “So, it’s a lot of my family in the name.”

Legend and Teigen also share six-year-old daughter Luna and four-year-old son Miles.

Willie Nelson in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? It might just be a done deal

As unlikely as it might initially seem, Willie Nelson‘s pretty much a shoo-on for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. On Wednesday, we learned he’s one of this year’s nominees.

“Really, if you think about it, he and Waylon [Jennings] created outlaw country. What is that?” Jason Hanley from the Rock Hall asks. “That’s country that looks to rock ‘n’ roll as an influence. So it’s almost like country helped birth rock ‘n’ roll. And then Willie and the gang looked back at rock ‘n’ roll and said, ‘We need to bring that spirit back into country.’ And that’s what you get.”

Hanley also points to Willie’s collaborations with the likes of Snoop DoggSheryl Crow, and Ray Charles as another reason he’s worthy of the hallowed ranks.

“He’s been an artist who hasn’t stayed in his own lane, and has never been about that,” Hanley tells ABC Audio. “He wants to break out. In many ways, I think he maybe is the one of the most kind of rock ‘n’ roll country artists you’re gonna get.”

You can weigh in now online. The inductees will be announced in May, with the ceremony itself set to take place in the fall.

Maroon 5’s upcoming Las Vegas residency may include “unexpected” song choices for a “unique” experience

Live Nation/MGM Resorts International

Maroon 5‘s Las Vegas residency kicks off March 24 at the Dolby Live theater at Park MGM. They’re currently trying to figure out how to fit their countless hits into one 90-minute show — and still “bring something unique to the experience.”

“That’s the challenge for us … just the singles fill up 90 minutes, which is a great problem for a band to have,” Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine laughs. But, he notes, “We want to bring something unique to this experience. So we have a couple ideas … some maybe unexpected song choices that we’re going to bring out.”

Two of the hit singles being considered might be “Animals” and “Moves Like Jagger”; both of them just hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. James says it’s hard to conceive of numbers like that, especially considering what the music business was like when they started 20 years ago.

“None of it existed,” he says of streaming services. “We released our first record in 2002 when people were still purchasing compact discs and before there was really a legal way to buy music online.”

He adds, “So to have gone through the inception of the iTunes Store and then Spotify, Apple Music … and then now to be coming into this new era of AI and what that’s going to do for music creation.”

Of what the music business will look like in another 20 years, James says, “I don’t think anyone has any idea!” But he suspects artists might be cut out of the equation entirely.

“The technology is already there for generative AI to come up with a Maroon 5 song,” he laughs. “So, y’know, we might not be needed in a few years.”

Paul McCartney shares what being a husband and father means to him

In addition to being a rock star, Paul McCartney is a husband and father, and those are two roles that are very important to him. In a new post on his website, the Beatles legend responds to a Twitter question about what the two roles mean to him, noting they are “two completely different things.”

“As far as being a dad is concerned, I’ve always just tried to give my kids a bit of guidance, if they seem to need it – but that was mainly when they were younger,” he explains. “Now that they are older, they’re guiding me! They don’t need so much guidance these days but if there’s ever a problem, I’m very happy to be the guy they come to.”

He adds, “You’re just there to help, and I suppose have fun with – we do have a lot of fun. Now they’re older we can have a drink together, for instance!”

As for being a husband, he says the most important thing is “just trying to be good to my wife Nancy (Shevell) and trying to be considerate and romantic.” And it sounds like Nancy can expect something special later this month.

“I completely overdo Valentine’s Day! I mean, there’s not just one card, there are cards hidden around the room, and sometimes things even spill into the next day – it’s completely silly,” Sir Paul says. “If there’s an excuse to have some fun, I overdo it!”

McCartney adds that he likes to be helpful to his wife, noting, “I’m always very happy to be the person Nancy relies on, and to be her strength when she goes through tough times. I am very proud, in fact, to be ‘The Guy’ there.”
