Mel C says she’s hoping for a Spice Girls reunion on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

ABC/Maarten de Boer

Will a Spice Girls reunion happen on Dancing with the Stars this season? Contestant Mel C — aka Sporty Spice — doesn’t rule it out.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight ahead of the DWTS season 30 premiere on Tuesday, she was asked whether we’ll see her group mates cheering her on in the ballroom.

“It’d be rude not to, right?” she jokes.

The Spice Girls have taken the DWTS stage before — they previously performed on the show in 2007 when Scary Spice Mel B competed on season five. Mel C says she really hopes they’ll be able to do that again this season. “Should we manifest that that is gonna happen?” she says.

Either way, Mel C says the girls are supportive of her.

“They’re all super excited for me, and they’re kinda, like, ‘You’ve gotta win!'” she says. “That’s a bit of pressure, so I was like, ‘I’ll do my best.'”

‘Spanish Model,’ Latin-music tribute to Elvis Costello’s ‘This Year’s Model’ album, released today

UMe

Spanish Model, the unique new album featuring a variety of Latin-music artists performing Spanish-language versions of the songs from Elvis Costello‘s second studio effort, 1978’s This Year’s Model, got its release today.

As previously reported, Spanish Model features all of the songs from This Year’s Model, plus select other tunes from that record’s sessions, with newly recorded vocals by various Latin artists accompanied by the original music by Costello and his band The Attractions.

Coinciding with the album’s release, a music video for award-winning Colombian-born singer/songwriter Sebastian Yatra‘s rendition of “Big Tears,” re-titled “Llorar,” has debuted on Costello’s official YouTube channel.

“Big Tears” didn’t appear on This Year’s Model, but was released in 1978 as the B-side of the “Pump It Up” single, and also was included on Costello’s 1980 compilation, Taking Liberties.

“‘Big Tears’ should have always been on the album, as it was at least equal if not superior to some of the other songs but we always wanted to make 7″ inch singles very special by having such a great track on the flip side of a hit record,” Elvis explains. “Yatra’s wonderful rendition of the song, only confirms my feeling that the tune is now where it has always belonged.”

Among the other artists who put their Spanish-language spins on the This Year’s Model tunes are Juanes, Luis Fonsi and Vega.

Meanwhile, the first episode of a six-part documentary series focusing on Spanish Model will premiere September 13. The series, which will roll out over the course of two weeks, will include interviews with nearly all of the artists who contributed to the album, as well as with Costello, The Attractions’ members and This Year’s Model producer Nick Lowe.

Here’s Spanish Model‘s full track list:

“No Action” — Nina Diaz
“(Yo No Quiero Ir a) Chelsea” (“[I Don’t Want to Go to] Chelsea”) — Raquel Sofía y Fuego
“Yo Te Vi” (“The Beat”) — Draco Rosa
“Pump It Up” — Juanes

“Tu Eres Para Mi” (“You Belong to Me”) — Luis Fonsi

Halsey shares some “vulnerable thoughts” on their post-baby body

MEGA/GC Images

Halsey is getting candid about their post-baby body struggles.

The singer opened up Thursday night on Twitter about how they are dealing with their new body since the birth of their first child, Ender, back in July.

“My pregnancy has changed my body so much,” Halsey wrote. “Learning how to have a personal sense of style when you’re not used to your new shapes has become a real struggle. To all the mommas (or really just anyone going thru something similar) I feeeel you.”

Halsey, who stepped out for a New York Fashion Week event Wednesday night with partner Alev Aydin, added that the expectation to look a certain way has been weighing on them.

“The pressure to look ‘androgynous’ as a means of gender non-confirming expression (as a big t**** breastfeeding mom) coupled with expectation to have a perfect body right after birth is a cocktail of confusion,” the 26-year-old wrote. “I’m patiently reminding myself to do me in any way that feels good.”

“It’s all bulls*** and we are all doing our best,” Halsey concluded. “Anyways, just some vulnerable thoughts. If you relate you’re not alone.”

Report: Rihanna reaches out of court settlement and drops lawsuit against her father

Steven Ferdman/Getty Images

Rihanna has reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with her father after filing a lawsuit accusing him of illegally using her name for his own profit.

Radar reports that the nine-time Grammy winner dropped the lawsuit against Ronald Fenty before they were due to go to trial on September 22.

In 2019, RiRi sued her father and his company, Fenty Entertainment. Court documents state, “Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf.”

Rihanna said that her dad, who is not her agent, booked a $15 million overseas tour without her approval. She also claims that he attempted to trademark the phrase “Fenty” to open a chain of hotels.

Now the “Umbrella” singer is focused on hosting an after party for the Met Ball Gala on Monday in New York City. She will also present her annual Savage X Fenty fashion show on September 24. It will stream in over 240 countries and territories on Amazon Prime Video, and will “combine fashion, dance, music, and iconic architecture.” Last year’s presentation at the Los Angeles Convention Center featured appearances by Normani, Roddy Ricch, Miguel, Ella Mai and Mustard.

Last month, Forbes declared Rihanna’s fashion/music empire is now worth $1.7 billion, making her the wealthiest female musician in the world, and second to Oprah Winfrey as the richest female entertainer.

Nicki Minaj’s husband pleads guilty to failing to register as a sex offender

Nicki Minaj‘s husband, Kenneth Petty, faces up to ten years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender in California.

Petty, who married the “Anaconda” rapper in 2019, pleaded guilty on Thursday, according to court records obtained by ABC News. Sentencing has been scheduled for January 24, 2022.  Petty faces a maximum ten-year prison sentence and a fine of $250,000 or more, though the law allows for a minimum sentence of five years of supervised release for the violation.

As her husband faces more legal drama, the five-time MTV Video Music Award winner announced Thursday she will not appears at the VMAs on Sunday in New York City.  “I just pulled out. I’ll explain why another day,” Minaj tweeted in response to a fan asking if she would be performing on Sunday. “Next year we there baby.”

Petty was arrested in March 2020 after being indicted for failure to register as a sex offender. He pleaded not guilty and posted $100,000 bail. The 43-year-old, who has homes in New York City and Los Angeles, was registered as sex offender in New York, but not in California. He is required to register as a sex offender in both states after being convicted for the first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1995, for which he served a four-year prison sentence.

As previously reported, Petty’s alleged rape victim, Jennifer Hough, recently filed a lawsuit against him and Minaj in which she accused the pair of attempting to intimidate her into recanting her rape accusation. She asserts in the lawsuit that Petty “intimidated” and “harassed” her not to talk about the incident, and says that Nicki “threatened” her and wanted her to disavow her accusations against Petty, according to Billboard

Hough alleges that Nicki falsely claims that she wrote a letter recanting her statement accusing Petty of rape, and that on two different occasions, Minaj and Petty offered her $500,000, and $20,000 to recant her statement.
