Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance Saturday at the Light of Day Winterfest concert in Red Bank, New Jersey. There, he dedicated his song “The Promised Land” to Renee Good, the Minneapolis woman killed by an ICE agent in Minnesota.

In fan-shot video of Springsteen’s performance, Bruce tells the audience that the “ideals and the values” of the U.S. are “being tested as it has never been in modern times” and that they have “never been as endangered as they are right now.”

“If you believe in democracy, in liberty, if you believe that truth still matters, and that it’s worth speaking out, and it’s worth fighting for, if you believe in the power of the law and that no one stands above it, if you stand against heavily armed masked federal troops invading an American city, and using Gestapo tactics against our fellow citizens, if you believe you don’t deserve to be murdered for exercising your American right to protest, then send a message to this President,” he told the crowd. “And as the Mayor of that city has said, ICE should get the f*** out of Minneapolis.”

Before breaking into the song, he added, “So this one is for you, and the memory of the mother of three and American citizen Renee Good.”

Springsteen was Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers‘ special guest at the Light of Day Winterfest show. According to setlist.fm, The Boss also performed “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Atlantic City,” “Light of Day,” “Thunder Road” and more.

The concert was one of several Light of Day shows that took place over the weekend. The shows helped raise money toward the fight against Parkinson’s disease and other related neurodegenerative diseases.

As Dolly Parton celebrates her 80th birthday Monday, she’s doing exactly what you’d expect of someone who’s a beloved icon the world over: instead of accepting gifts, she’s focused on giving one.

“When I first started thinking about something special to do for my 80th birthday, I thought, ‘Well Lord, please give me a song or something to make the birthday special and to be a gift from me to other people for my birthday,'” she says.

The answer to Dolly’s request came as she worked on her Life of Many Colors Museum, which is set to open with her new SongTeller Hotel this summer in Nashville.

“One day I was listening to the songs that we were doing for my museum,” she recalls. “All of a sudden, ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning’ came on and I went, ‘Uh! Whoop! That’s it! That’s it!’ It was like a light bulb went off in my head and the whole room kind of lit up. And I thought, ‘“Light Of a Clear Blue Morning,” that’s the one that I need to be doing.'”

Lainey Wilson, Reba McEntire, Miley Cyrus, Queen Latifah, David Foster and the Christ Church Choir all came together to help Dolly distill the message she wanted to send.

“I am hoping that people take away from this song hope and a good look at a future that we can still have and not worry so much about what’s going on at the moment,” she explains. “I thought this was a perfect song for this day and time.”

One more gift? Dolly’s giving the proceeds from the song to pediatric cancer research at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Ahead, Dolly’s self-penned musical about her life is set to open on Broadway sometime in 2026.

Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, whose death was announced Jan. 10, was remembered with a celebration of life in San Francisco on Saturday.

The public event took place at Civic Center Plaza, and featured speeches by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Dead & Company’s John Mayer. Also sharing their memories of Weir were Joan Baez, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, as well as Weir’s family, wife Natascha Weir and daughters Monet Weir and Chloe Weir.

“There was nothing like Bob Weir. … He was singular. He was not a copy of anything that came before. He was a true original,” Hart said, “I could sit here and tell you so many stories about our lives together. But at the heart of it all is that this was never just a band. It was a family.”

Hart also addressed the fans gathered, saying, “The songs of our lives are yours now, and it’s up to all of us to keep the refrain building. Love is real, not fade away.”

Mayer talked of all he learned from Weir over the decade they performed together, noting the rocker “changed my life.”

“Bob took a chance on me, he staked his entire reputation on my joining a band with him. He gave me musical community, he gave me this community,” Mayer said. “He invited me into the worlds he’d constructed, and he taught me what the songs meant and what it meant to perform them.”

Mayer added, “In return, I gave him everything I had night after night, year after year.”

The celebration also included recorded messages from musicians including Weir’s Grateful Dead bandmate Bill Kreutzmann, as well as Dave Matthews, Gov’t Mule‘s Warren Haynes, Willie Nelson, Phish‘s Trey Anastasio, Sammy Hagar and more.

The celebration ended with Mayer on guitar and vocals leading the fans in the Grateful Dead classic “Ripple.”

Ringo Starr is planning to release a new album this year.

The Beatles drummer posted a January 2026 update video, recapping all the highlights of 2025, including the release of his country album, Look Up. He then gave fans a heads-up about what’s in store for the new year.

“Anyway, I just want to say peace and love to everybody who supported me,” he ended the clip, adding, “if you’re feeling down, look up.”

Ringo released Look Up, produced by T Bone Burnett, in January 2025. It featured 11 songs, with special guest appearances by Molly Tuttle, Billy Strings, Lucius, Larkin Poe and Alison Krauss. The Eagles Joe Walsh, Ringo’s brother-in-law, also played on the album.

Have you heard? 2026 is the new 2016. At least, that’s what it feels like if you’ve been scrolling through social media lately, where the latest trend involves posting photos of yourself from a decade ago. According to Spotify, the creation of user-generated “2016” playlists has increased by more than 790% since Jan. 1. The most-added track to those playlists is “Let Me Love You” by DJ Snake and Justin Bieber, followed by “Lean On” by Major Lazer, DJ Snake and ; “Lush Life” by Zara Larsson; “Sorry” by Justin Bieber; and “One Dance” by Drake.

However, when it comes to overall listening this year, the most-streamed song released in 2016 globally is Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like.” It’s followed by “One Dance,” “Starboy” by The Weeknd and Daft Punk, “Let Me Love You” and “Closer” by The Chainsmokers and Halsey.

What’s more, the number of songs from 2015 to 2016 that have appeared on Spotify’s “Global Top 50” has increased by more than 150% since the start of the year.

If you want to make your own playlist, other popular 2016 songs include “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande, “Work” by Rihanna,” “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” by Justin Timberlake, “This Is What You Came For” by Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna — famously co-written by Taylor Swift — and “Hands to Myself” by Selena Gomez.
