Former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor has shared a health update, and he’s got a bit of good news.

Back in 2022, when Duran Duran was being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Taylor revealed in a letter read by Simon LeBon that he was battling stage 4 prostate cancer. In a new interview with BBC Breakfast, he shared the results of the new treatment he’s been undergoing.

Taylor said he’s been getting treatment at The Cancer Awareness Trust, which includes “a nuclear medicine, Lutetium-177, which is targeted so it only sees cancer cells.” He said he had his first treatment six weeks ago and noted, “It can’t see healthy cells.”

“It kills stage 4 cancer in your bones. And so what it’s effectively done is extend my life for five years,” he said.

And Taylor’s bandmates in Duran Duran are doing what they can to help him. They are headlining a benefit for The Cancer Awareness Trust and Andy’s treatment on Saturday, August 19, at The Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, California.

In the meantime, Taylor just announced a new solo album, Man’s A Wolf To Man. He said he asked doctors for permission to begin what he described as “light work” in order to send a positive message.

“I don’t want to be a patient stuck here. I want to be a working patient, a little beacon of hope,” he said. “Because this stuff — cancer — just drags you and your family down in the darkness.”

He added that finishing the album, which comes out September 8, has “been a hell of a journey.”

Tory Lanez is maintaining his innocence in the shooting case of Megan Thee Stallion, despite being found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“I have never let a hard time intimidate me, I will never, never let no jail time eliminate me,” the rapper, who was born Daystar Peterson, wrote in a post shared to his Instagram. “This week in court, I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved. That’s it.”

“In no way, shape, or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of,” he continued. “I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.”

Back in December, Tory was found guilty on three felony charges — assault with a semi-automatic firearm (personal use of a firearm); carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and discharging a firearm with gross negligence — for shooting Meg’s feet on July 12, 2020. He received his sentencing on Tuesday, August 8.

In his Instagram post, Tory said, “This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall,” as he’s “faced adversity my whole life” and still “came out on top.”

“I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious. Tough times don’t last, tough people do,” he continued. “To my family, friends and umbrellas thank you for your continued support. See you soon.”

Metric Music International/Thirty Tigers

Metric has premiered a new song called “Nothing Is Perfect,” a track off the band’s upcoming album, Formentera II.

“[‘Nothing Is Perfect’] stands out on Formentera II as the lone track that is carried by only acoustic guitar and vocals,” frontwoman Emily Haines explains in an email to fans. “We explored soooo many renditions of it during the recording process, but in the end found that everything we tried adding seemed to detract from the essence of it.”

You can listen to “Nothing Is Perfect” now via digital outlets and watch its accompanying video streaming now on YouTube.

Formentera II, which also features the previously released single “Just the Once,” will be released October 13. It’s the follow-up to 2022’s Formentera.

On This Day, August 11, 1979: Led Zeppelin play what would be their final U.K. show

On This Day, August 11, 1979 …

Led Zeppelin headlined their second night at the Knebworth Festival at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire, England. It would be their final U.K. show with all four original members.

The festival was the band’s first live show in the U.K. in four years and some of their first concerts after a two-year hiatus following the death of Robert Plant’s son. The performance received some negative reviews from critics, who suggested they were a bit rusty.

The set included such classic tunes as “The Song Remains The Same,” “Celebration Day,” “The Rain Song,” “Achilles Last Stand,” “Stairway to Heaven” and “Whole Lotta Love.”

Although the band went on to play a small European tour following the festival, Knebworth would wind up being their final U.K. show with the all original members, as drummer John Bonham passed away in September 1980 and the band broke up.

Surviving members Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones did play the U.K. one more time: they reunited, along with Bonham’s son Jason on drums, for the Ahmet Urtegun tribute concert at London’s O2 Arena on December 10, 2007.
