Death Cab for Cutie has a special release for vinyl lovers: a 12″ single of a new song, “An Arrow In the Wall,” along with a B-side remix by CHVRCHES. The track is also available digitally for those of you who are turntable -free.

“‘An Arrow In the Wall’ is about the warning signs all around us in the 21st century that society-at-large is in decay,” says Death Cab’s Ben Gibbard. “The arrow lodged in the wall might have missed this time, but it would be naive to assume the next one won’t also.”

You can buy the vinyl single now at Death Cab’s online store.

As for why Death Cab got CHVRCHES involved, Gibbard explains that the two acts have been “good friends” since they toured together in 2109. “They took our maudlin little dance track and turned it into a major key club banger,” he says of the remix.

As previously reported, Death Cab for Cutie and Gibbard’s other band, The Postal Service, are touring together this fall to celebrate the 20th anniversaries of Death Cab’s Transatlanticism and The Postal Service’s Give Up.  The tour starts September 5 in Washington, D.C.

Usher & Keke Palmer team up for “Boyfriend” video

Usher unveiled the much-anticipated song and music video for “Boyfriend,” which sees Keke Palmer as the main girl.

The new visual comes a day after they both shared a teaser clip announcing their collaboration on social media, and a month after Usher serenaded Keke at one of his Las Vegas residency shows.

While fans speculated the video would show the actress in a sexual manner, Keke’s singing and prepping for what seems to be a night out with her girls. She soon meets up with Usher at a casino where, in baggy pants, T-shirt and a jacket, she breaks out into a dance routine.

“Usher! I remember when I was 12 and auditioned for ‘In The Mix'”,” Keke wrote when the full video premiered on Wednesday, August 16. “You have been killing it all my life. As a true lover of the arts, your talent and craftsmanship are a rare combination that I aspire to achieve as a performer. You are a living legend who is worthy of awe! Thank you for encouraging me and seeing me as the entertainer I am.”

She added, “I know I’m a gUrL but when I watched your videos, I never wanted to be the girl in them, I wanted to be YOU. Thank you for making a dream come true.”

Upon previewing the video the day before its release, fans pointed to the duo’s marketing strategy saying that capitalizing on their viral moment — and the backlash Keke’s boyfriend, Darius Jackson, received for calling her out about it — was “genius.”

DECIBEL COOPER / BMG

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has released a song from his upcoming CMF2 album titled “Talk Sick.”

“That sick guitar at the beginning, I played that through a speaker about the size of a coffee cup,” he says of the song in a statement. “It made it sound violent; you feel like you’re being stung by bees who are playing along to the Sex Pistols.”

As for what the song’s about, Taylor explains, “There’s an element of spiritual regurgitation, trying to purge yourself of demons that have been clinging to you because of prior relationships, romantic or otherwise. You realize those people bring a certain a****** side out of you that you don’t necessarily want in your life. It’s about trying to lance that boil and get that sickness out of you.”

CMF2, the sophomore follow-up to Taylor’s 2020 solo debut CMFT, arrives September 15. It also includes the lead single “Beyond.” It’s produced by Jay Ruston, who was also behind the board for CMFT and Hydrogradas, the 2017 release by Taylor’s other band Stone Sour.

“We’re not afraid to tell each other if it’s a good idea, or also a bad one; we have that kind of trust,” Taylor says of Ruston.

The Talking Heads are reuniting, but unfortunately for fans, they won’t be playing music together.

Spin reports that band members David ByrneTina WeymouthChris Frantz and Jerry Harrison are set to take part in a Q&A at the Toronto Film Festival to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their classic concert film, Stop Making Sense.

A newly restored version of the film is set to screen at the festival on September 11, with the Q&A, moderated by Spike Jonze, to follow. Folks who are not in Toronto will be able to catch both at theaters across the country.

This is just one of the ways the 40th anniversary of the film will be celebrated. A24 is planning to release the newly restored Stop Making Sense nationally on September 23. Plus, a deluxe reissue of the soundtrack is dropping on August 18 and can be preordered now.

Directed by Jonathan DemmeStop Making Sense was recorded over three shows at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983. It is considered by many to be the greatest concert film of all time. In 2021, it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry.

Sara Bareilles penned a new track for Only Murders in the Building, and it’s now streaming on all platforms.

The song, “Look for the Light,” was performed on Tuesday night’s episode by Meryl Streep and Ashley Park. Sara and La La Land songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote the song specifically for the Hulu series.

“It was so easy to say yes to this invitation,” Sara says in a statement. “I love the delicious unpredictability of collaboration, and this was as joyful and undeniable as they come. I am such a fan of the ‘Only Murders’ AND of Pasek & Paul, so the idea of writing together for the first time, especially to offer something to someone like Meryl Streep truly felt like a dream.”

She continues, “Meryl was gentle and focused, and I loved her musicality and her willingness to share her process. Ashley Park’s glorious counter melody was added later, and I got goosebumps the first time I heard it. It truly couldn’t have been a more seamless experience- how lucky am I to be a part of it!”

As for whether Only Murders star Selena Gomez will get a musical moment in the show, co-creator and showrunner John Hoffman previously told ABC Audio we’ll only see her character Mabel sing in a fantasy context — as she did at the end of episode two.

The Killers apologize after political miscalculation at overseas concert

The Killers have issued an apology for comments lead singer Brandon Flowers made during a Tuesday night concert in Batumi, Georgia — that’s the country of Georgia, not the state.

As Billboard reports, usually, the band invites a fan onstage to play drums on their song “For Reasons Unknown.”  Unfortunately, the fan they called up on Tuesday night was Russian, and that was a mistake.

In several fan-captured videos, Flowers told the crowd, “We don’t know the etiquette of this land but this guy’s a Russian. You O.K. with a Russian coming up here?” The crowd started booing because following an invasion in 2008, Russia still occupies 20% of Georgia.

The fans got even more upset — with some walking out — after Flowers urged them to see across borders.

“You can’t recognize that someone’s your brother? He’s not your brother? … I’m not your brother? Am I not your brother being from America?” he asked. “One of the things we appreciate about being in this band is it brings people together. And tonight I want to celebrate that we’re here together. And I don’t want it to turn ugly. And I see you as my brothers and my sisters.”

After the show, The Killers posted an apology, explaining that they didn’t mean to offend anyone and claiming that “the initial response from the crowd indicated that they were okay with tonight’s audience participation member coming onstage with us.”

The apology continued, “We recognize that a comment, meant to suggest that all of The Killers’ audience and fans are ‘brothers and sisters,’ could be misconstrued. We did not mean to upset anyone and we apologize. We stand with you and hope to return soon.”

On This Day, August 16, 1986…

Def Leppard performed at the Monsters of Rock Festival in Castle Donington, England. The show was drummer Rick Allen’s first live performance since the 1984 car accident in which he lost his arm.

Allen was able to continue playing drums thanks to a specially designed electronic drum kit; he plays drums with Def Leppard to this day.

The band is currently on the second leg of their North American stadium tour with Mötley Crüe.
