Madonna’s birthday thought: “It’s great to be alive”

Madonna’s birthday thought: “It’s great to be alive”
Ricardo Gomes

Madonna celebrated her 65th birthday in Lisbon, according to The Portugal News, but she welcomed the milestone with a sobering thought.

Fan-captured video shows Madonna in a restaurant, surrounded by family and friends, ready to blow out a candle stuck in some kind of dessert. After joking about making a wish, she simply says, “It’s great to be alive” — which earns her a round of applause. After all, less than two months ago Madonna was in the ICU with a serious bacterial infection.

According to The Portugal News, Madonna is in Portugal — where she was living until a few years ago — with “30 friends from all over the world,” who arrived on a commercial flight. Apparently, the Queen of Pop gave up her private plane a few years ago due to environmental concerns. She’s going to stay in the country through the weekend, according to the publication.

After postponing the North American leg of her Celebration tour, Madonna will now launch the trek in the U.K. in October. The North American leg will begin December 13 in Brooklyn, New York.

Lenny Kravitz could potentially be competing for an Oscar next year. The rocker is contributing the new song “Road To Freedom” to the upcoming film Rustin, about gay activist Bayard Rustin.

The tune will feature musician Trombone Shorty, thanks to a request by director George C. Wolfe to include trombones in the song.

“Ever since Branford Marsalis introduced me to a recording of the holy trombone choir from the United House of Prayer, I’ve been mesmerized,” Wolfe says. “So when the brilliant, impassioned Lenny Kravitz agreed to write a song for Rustin, I begged him to include a chorus of trombones. … Lenny took my request to the next level and brought on board the legendary Trombone Shorty.”

He adds, “‘Road To Freedom’ captures both 1963 and 2023; a bold celebration, as Lenny’s voice sermonizes and soars.”

Rustin was an African American civil and gay rights leader, who helped organize the March on Washington. He passed away in 1987. In 2013 he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

Kravitz’s tune is expected to be released later this year. Rustin, which stars Colman Domingo in the title role and features Chris RockJeffrey WrightCCH Pounder, will open in select theaters November 3 and hits Netflix on November 17.

Brett Young recently put his spin on Tim McGraw‘s 1994 hit, “Don’t Take The Girl.”

Speaking with ET Online recently, Brett shared Tim’s reaction to his version, which, thankfully, was filled with praise.

“We got to send it to Tim when we finished it. Tim said, ‘He sings his butt off. Great work.’ And that was good for me,” Brett recounts with a smile.

Now that Brett’s got Tim’s stamp of approval, the next thing on his bucket list is to record a song together with the country icon.

“I think the only way to get that done is to do something that he’s excited about doing with me,” Brett shares. “So I will strive to either write that song or find that song.”

You can find Brett’s version of “Don’t Take The Girl” on his latest album, Across The Sheets, out now.

Carrie Underwood recently released “Give Her That,” the latest preview of her forthcoming deluxe album. In a recent interview, she detailed the song’s recording process and shared a little vocal challenge she faced.

“I wrote ‘Give Her That’ with David Garcia and Lydia Vaughan, and it was one of those songs I feel like we had to play with it quite a bit when we were in the studio because it’s a surprisingly hard song to sing. So, we were messing with keys and tempos honestly longer than we probably should have,” Carrie recalls with a laugh.

“But I wanted to get it perfect, and it was just an interesting puzzle to figure out,” she adds.

“Give Her That” is off Carrie’s upcoming Denim & Rhinestones (Deluxe Edition) album. The record arrives September 22 and is available for preorder now.

Paramount has decided to pull the plug on the sale of BET Media Group.

The decision not to sell comes after at least five months of deliberations, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and after the company received bids for a majority stake in the company from top Hollywood names like Shaquille O’NealDiddy and Tyler Perry

A source told the New York Post that Paramount Global notified bidders Wednesday evening, August 16, of its decision to end the sale process after concluding that it’d be more beneficial to keep the group — and its BET and VH1 cable networks, among other services — than it would be to give it up.

“We made this decision because the benefits of maintaining a majority stake in BET Media Group creates more value for Paramount than any of the proposals we received,” the source said.

The company reportedly received bids ranging from around $2 billion to $3 billion.

According to reports, other hopeful buyers included TV producer Kenya Barris, rapper 50 Cent and media entrepreneur Byron Allen
