For one, the Swedish metallers have earned their first ever #1 radio single, hitting the top spot on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with the track “The Dirt I’m Buried In.”
Not only that, but Avatar’s inspired the name of a fossil discovered by paleontologist Dr. Ben Thuy of the Luxembourg National Museum of Natural History. The fossil, dubbed Ophiocoma avatar, is of a brittle star dating back 80 million years ago.
“If you told the 16 year old me that we would hit the top of the U.S. radio charts, I’d ask you what you’re smoking,” says vocalist Johannes Eckerström. “If you then would proceed to tell me that a fossil would be named after us, I’d ask you what you’re smoking, and if you could share.”
“Hitting the charts was never a priority, but now that we’re here, I’m grateful,” Eckerström continues. “It shows the reach of what we’re doing and it is baffling. The fossil shows something else. That to me is a sign of people truly making our music a part of their lives. It’s a true honor. A beautiful gift. All we can say is thank you. We fully intend to keep earning your participation, over and over again.”
“The Dirt We’re Buried In” appears on Avatar’s latest album Dance Devil Dance, which dropped in February.
Bruce Springsteen has been getting some flack for not changing up the sets each night on his latest tour with the E Street Band, but he proved he can still throw in some surprises.
During their second show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Saturday, August 26, The Boss added two songs to the set that he hadn’t played in years.
According to setlist.fm, the surprises started right at the opening, with Bruce treating the crowd to the tour debut of The Rising track “Lonesome Day,” the first time he’s played it live since 2017. In addition, during the encore, Bruce played a cover of the Moon Mullican song “Seven Nights To Rock,” also a tour debut, for the first time with the E Street Band since 2017.
The rest of the show featured a pretty standard set list with songs like “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Born To Run,” Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,” “Dancing in the Dark” and more, ending the show like he has all tour with a solo version of the Letters To You track “I’ll See You In My Dreams.”
And it certainly looks like Bruce was having a good time onstage. According to the Asbury Park Press, during “Out in the Street,” Bruce saw New Jersey native Caroline Madden wearing a tiara that read, “Bruuuuce,” plucked it off her and put it on. “He looked good,” Madden said. “I was laughing the whole time.”
Next up, Springsteen comes home to the Garden State, with a three-night stand at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, August 30, and September 1 and 3. A complete list of dates can be found at brucespringsteen.net.

Taylor Swift took time out of her busy schedule to co-sign her BFF Selena Gomez‘s new song, “Single Soon.”
On her Instagram Story on August 26, Taylor shared a reel that Selena had originally posted featuring a clip from the song’s video. She captioned it, “WHEN UR BESTIE IS THE BESTEST. WILL BE DANCING TO THIS FOREVER METHINKS.” Selena subsequently shared Taylor’s post on her own Story.
Meanwhile, Selena is not having any speculation about what “Single Soon” is about. Buzzfeed reports that there’s a fan theory that it might be inspired by her 2017 relationship with The Weeknd.
The evidence, some say, is that scene in the video where she leaves a breakup Post-it note while singing, “The weekend’s almost here.” In addition, some think the line, “I don’t wanna see a tear” is a reference to The Weeknd’s hit “Save Your Tears.”
When Hollywood Life reported on the speculation, Selena jumped into the comments and wrote, “Couldn’t be more false.”
On her Instagram, Selena said the song is a “playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and loving your own company… and it’s also really fun to dance to!”
