Bernie Taupin‘s memoir, Scattershot: Life, Music, Elton and Me, an inside look at his life and career as the co-writer of Elton John‘s biggest hits, is out September 12. It features plenty of rock ‘n’ roll behavior and celebrity encounters, with everyone from John Lennon and Freddie Mercury to Princess Margaret, but what’s really amazing is that Elton didn’t know some of the details Bernie reveals in the book.

“He genuinely loved the book. I was so flattered by his compliments on it,” Bernie tells ABC Audio. “But the first thing he said to me when he called me after he finished the book, he went, ‘I can’t believe all of this. I mean, I didn’t know you did this. I didn’t know you did that.'”

“That’s a fan fantasy that we’ve lived in [each other’s] hip pockets for the last 55 years, ’cause it’s not true,” Bernie adds.

While the book isn’t in chronological order — hence the title Scattershot — it does cover all the major moments in Bernie and Elton’s career. It just does it from Bernie’s point of view.

“There are things in our collective lives that are bigger than life itself … they’re huge bullet points in our careers. You have to address them,” he says.

As for a new Elton album, Bernie says it’s being discussed.

“I’m sure somewhere in the not too distant future we’re going to be getting in the studio and doing something,” says Bernie. “We just have to figure out what we want to do.”

What he does know is that Elton really isn’t going to tour anymore.

“Believe me,” Bernie says. “He’s never going to be singing ‘Crocodile Rock’ … again.”

Ashley McBryde recently released her new album, The Devil I Know. Apart from its lead single, “Light On In The Kitchen,” the 11-track project also features a song called “Blackout Betty.”

Speaking with ABC Audio, Ashley discussed the genesis of the song and a lesser-known fact about her party persona.

“It was me and Nicolette Hayford and Aaron Raitiere, and we were writing one day and I was a little hungover — not proud of it, but I was. We wrote a song called ‘Blackout Betty,’ which is my nickname when I party too much. And we just kind of sat there, first of all, marveling at the song called ‘Blackout Betty,'” Ashley recounts.

She realized several of her song titles rhymed and boasted character-driven narratives.

“First of all, we didn’t mean to put a bunch of alliteration in these songs,” Ashley clarifies. “But we had all these characters just over the years.” 2022’s Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville featured “Jesus Jenny,” 2020’s Never Will had “Shut Up Sheila” and 2018’s Girl Going Nowhere included “Livin Next To Leroy.”

As the number of fictional characters grew, Ashley started having an idea.

“I thought, you know what’d be cool is if we gathered up all the characters we’ve ever developed and then gave them neighbors and give them a town to live in,” she shares.

Check out “Blackout Betty” and more on The Devil I Know, out now.

Pearl Jam was forced to postpone their concert scheduled for Sunday, September 10 in Noblesville, Indiana, just outside Indianapolis, due to illness.

“The band is deeply sorry and thinking of those who travel to shows, as well as the great crowd in Indy,” read a statement on their website, which did not identify who in the band was sick.

“It’s obviously serious, and we wish there was another way around it,” the added. “Again we apologize, and thanks so much for your understanding. It’s not easy…“

Pearl Jam says the show will be rescheduled “for a future date,” and those who can’t make it will be refunded.

The Seattle rockers’ next shows are scheduled for September 13 and 15 in Ft. Worth, Texas, and as of now, they are scheduled to go on as planned. The tour wraps September 18 and 19 in Austin, Texas.

Fans were literally walking into Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on Saturday night for Ed Sheeran‘s concert when the singer abruptly canceled the gig.

Around 5:30 p.m. local time on Saturday night, Ed wrote on Instagram, “I can’t believe I’m typing this but there’s been some challenges encountered during the load in of our Vegas show. It’s impossible to go forward with the show.”

“I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled in for this and I wish I could change it,” he continued. “The gig will be postponed to Saturday October 28th and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date. I’m so, so sorry.”

Ed’s message came 90 minutes before the show’s scheduled start. Some fans who’d traveled from out of town were upset about having to eat the cost of their plane tickets.

It just sucks because now we’re not going to see him because we’re obviously not spending all of that money to come back to Vegas,” one couple who’d spent $400 to travel to Vegas from Canada told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“This is egg on the face of the promoter and I think on Sheeran for a lack of communication,” said another fan.

A source told the paper that the show was canceled because five of the audio towers that are part of the show’s audio setup kept slipping, and workers weren’t able to re-secure them.

Doors were opened just after 5 p.m. to get fans out of the heat, though fans reported seeing some people being taken out of the stadium in wheelchairs. Two fans told the paper they had to carry a woman who’d fainted to the medical tent.

According to the paper, Ed stayed at the stadium until about 6:30 p.m. signing autographs and posing for selfies.

Nickelback may be one of the most hated bands of all time, but the Canadian rockers now find themselves at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.

The band’s new documentary, Hate to Love, premiered at the event Friday, September 8, during which TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey explained how the film made the 2023 slate.

“We talked about it and thought, ‘Are we still going to be cool and artsy if we invite this film?'” Bailey said, according to Variety. “F*** it, hell yes.”

Hate to Love documents Nickelback’s journey throughout their career, from the hit records and sold-out shows to the seemingly endless jokes made at their expense.

“It’s relatable to everyone,” director Leigh Brooks said of the film.

The Purple Album: Special Gold Edition will be released October 13 as a two-CD/Blu-ray set, which includes concert videos from The Purple Tour, official music videos and more, including commentary from Coverdale. It’s also being released on two-LP gold vinyl.
