Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin says he “never agreed” to canceled shows

Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin has issued a statement regarding the band’s recently canceled shows, which led one venue to declare that they would never again book the “She Hates Me” rockers.

In a Facebook post, Scantlin writes, “I would like to clarify that the shows in question were set up without my consent by my former management team.”

“I told my team at the time more than once that no shows should be booked without my authorization,” he says. “I never agreed to these shows.”

Scantlin adds that he’s currently taking time to “regroup and make necessary changes.”

“It is essential to ensure that the future of my music career is built on a foundation of trust, transparency, and genuine collaboration,” he writes. “I am deeply grateful for your understanding, continued support, and patience during this transitional period.”

Puddle of Mudd was scheduled to play Michigan’s The Machine Shop, the club that banned them, on September 15 and 16. Upon news of the cancellation, The Machine Shop wrote, “This is not a ‘due to circumstances beyond our control’ cancellation. This is 100% Wes.”

“The Machine Shop, his band and everyone involved are very disappointed,” the post continued. “We will not be postponing the shows as we are not ever rescheduling Puddle of Mudd.”

Puddle of Mudd just released a new album, Ubiquitous, last Friday, September 8.

Kansas will be extending the celebration of their 50th anniversary well into next year. The band just extended their Another Fork in the Road 50th Anniversary Tour, which will now keep them on the road through May, 2024.

The new dates kick off February 2 in Pensacola, Florida, hitting such cities as Toledo, Ohio; Morristown, New Jersey; Albany, New York; Providence, Rhode Island, and more, wrapping May 18 in New Haven, Connecticut. The new additions also include the tour’s first stop in Kansas, with two shows in Salina, March 22 and 23.

“The way audiences have received the 50th Anniversary Tour has been spectacular,” Kansas drummer and original member Phil Ehart shares. “It only made sense to extend the tour into 2024.” He adds, “Heck, the first 50 dates didn’t even include the state of Kansas. You know we must perform there!”

Tickets for the new shows go on sale Friday, September 15, at 10 a.m. local time. The tour next hits Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday, September 12. A complete list of dates can be found at kansasband.com.

On This Day, September 12, 1975…

Pink Floyd released their ninth studio album, Wish You Were Here.

The album featured the nine-part “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” which was tribute to founding member Syd Barrett, who’d been fired seven years earlier due to his drug use and mental health issues.

The album’s title track became a classic rock staple, and has often made the lists of the greatest songs of all time. Other songs on the album include “Have a Cigar” and “Welcome to the Machine.”

Wish You Were Here went on to be a huge hit for the band, reaching #1 in both the U.S. and U.K. It became Pink Floyd’s fastest selling album ever, and went on to sell 20 million copies.

Pink claps back at online troll, says they helped teach daughter a “lesson in ignorance”
ABC/Randy Holmes

Pink‘s birthday was September 8, and among the people wishing her a happy birthday was an online troll who attempted to insult her. Pink called the person out, and in addition to taking them to task, she explained that she’d used their post to teach her kids about hate and ignorance.

The person posted a photo of comedian Eddie Izzard on a red carpet wearing a striped dress with her hair in a short, spiky, bleached blonde ‘do. The caption was, “Happy Birthday, Pink.”

“Thank you so much. I just showed my 12 year old daughter your post. I explained to her that I’ve never met you, I don’t know you, and I have no idea why you would go out of your way to be hateful,” Pink replied. “It was a good lesson in ignorance. Thank you. I still don’t know you. Congrats. You’re no one.”

Then, Pink really tore into the person, writing, “MOST IMPORTANTLY -what a wasted opportunity here. There are so many pictures you could’ve chosen that were actually me that were worse than this picture, you nameless f***o. At least be creative next time dum dum.”

“I post these things to show the kids I know – my own kids as well, that we are all occasionally treated badly,” she concluded. “I show them because they know me, and they know that my self-esteem does not rely on the opinions of others. Nor does it rely on how many tickets I sell. Good/bad. Whatever. I love Me.”

When a fan commented, “SMH some people really are the worst,” Pink replied that she still had faith in humanity.

“Yes. Some. What these kind of people are are anonymous, lonely, And Miserable,” she noted. “But Most people are smart, good, and rad.”

Taylor Swift leads all nominees at Tuesday night’s MTV VMAs

MTV

Taylor Swift is the leading nominee at the 2023 MTV VMAs, set for Tuesday, September 12, at 8 p.m. ET.  She hasn’t been confirmed as performing or attending, but seeing as she has 11 nominations, she just might make an appearance.

Taylor’s nominations are all for her “Anti-Hero” video. The clip, which she directed, has earned her nods for Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop and Best Direction, plus a slew of other categories; Taylor’s also up for Artist of the Year.

If Taylor wins Video of the Year for “Anti-Hero,” she would extend her record for most wins in the category with four: She previously won for “Bad Blood,” “You Need to Calm Down” and “All Too Well: The Short Film.” She could also be the first artist ever to win Video of the Year two years in a row, since she won last year for “All Too Well.”

If Taylor wins Best Direction, she’d tie David Fincher and Spike Jonze as the most-awarded director in VMA history, with three wins. She previously won for “The Man” and “All Too Well.”

And let’s not forget that last year at the podium, Taylor announced the release of her album Midnights. Will she announce something else if she wins? If she’s there, that is.

Next to Taylor, the other top nominees are SZA with eight and BLACK PINK, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Olivia Rodrigo with six each.

Performers include Rodrigo, Demi Lovato, Fall Out Boy, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Karol GMåneskinMetro Boomin, Shakira and Sean “Diddy” Combs. Nicki Minaj will perform and host; Shakira will receive the Video Vanguard Award, while Diddy will receive the Global Icon Award.

Will Fall Out Boy win a VMA with their “zany,” “very silly” “Hold Me Like a Grudge” video?
MTV

Fall Out Boy‘s “Hold Me Like a Grudge” video is nominated for Best Alternative at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, taking place Tuesday, September 12. The clip is a sequel to the video for “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” which was a sequel to the video for “Dance, Dance.”

“‘Dance, Dance’ was the first video we did where we, I think, just got to play a little bit and have fun making a video,” bassist Pete Wentz tells ABC Audio. “Then ‘Arms Race,’ we really got to do another version of that, where we got to be playful.”

As Wentz explains, Fall Out Boy wanted to return to that energy with the “Grudge” video.

“Everybody in both those videos had their own vignettes and their own characters, and their characters have their own feelings and intentions,” he says. “It felt like it would be cool to do another video like that.”

In “Grudge,” we learn that Wentz’s stage dive at the end of “Arms Race” breaks his leg, which turns him into a bionic superhero. With the world in peril, Wentz must reunite with his old bandmates, who’ve all pursued similarly offbeat career paths.

“It’s a bit of a spectacle, but it’s fun and zany,” Wentz says. “It’s definitely the zaniest video we’ve made in awhile.”

“It’s very silly,” laughs vocalist Patrick Stump.

The other Best Alternative nominees are Blink-182‘s “Edging,” Thirty Seconds to Mars‘ “Stuck,” Paramore‘s “This Is Why,” boygenius‘ “The Film,” and Lana Del Rey and Jon Batiste‘s “Candy Necklace.” The Best Rock nominees are Foo Fighters‘ “The Teacher,” Linkin Park‘s “Lost,” Måneskin‘s “The Loneliest,” Metallica‘s “Lux Æterna,” Muse‘s “You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween” and Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ “Tippa My Tongue.”

Fall Out Boy and Måneskin will also perform.
