In 2022, Rod Wave vowed never to make “sad a**” music. But with the release of his new album, Nostalgia, fans aren’t sure he stayed true to that promise.

Though similar to the vulnerable tracks the Florida rapper’s known for producing, Rod Wave says this album is different in some ways.

“I feel like on this album, I was able to spread my emotions around,” he said in an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe. “I have more time just to touch bases on different kind of points of views, on different subjects.”

The “Heart on Ice” rapper said that with the 21-track collection he’s giving more of a mature vibe.

“I turn into a butterfly. I’m full grown on this one.”

The 25-year-old rapper said with all of his music he tries to “shed light on my background and what made me who I am.” It’s the reason behind the personal, heartfelt lyrics included in his songs.

Rod Wave said he remembers a time when “it was crazy for me to be saying ‘I’m going to be a rapper.'”

Recalling those memories is why he invests everything he’s got into his career, he said.

But it seems to be paying off.

He’s gained mainstream success and a Billboard Award win for Top Artist of the Year — and with album number five, he shows no signs of slowing down.

Listen to Rod Wave continue to wear his heart on his sleeve in Nostalgia, available for streaming on major platforms.

If you attended an RV show in Hershey, Pennsylvania this weekend and thought you saw Pink there, you weren’t imagining things.

On Saturday, September 16, Pink posted footage of herself and her kids in the back of a car, announcing, “Here we are in Hershey. We flew in special for the RV show, because mama wants to walk up and down the aisles and look into other people’s RVs. And papa got us … disguises.”

She then distributed a Batman mask to son Jameson and a Bluey mask to daughter Willow, and donned a Mario mask herself.  “I feel like this is really going to make us super incognito,” she joked.

Sadly, we didn’t get to see any photos of the insides of “other people’s RVs.” But Pink did include some photos of the kids riding on rides and playing games.

The disguises, by the way, were a total fail. One fan commented, “I saw you today at the RV show but wanted to respect your space and family time. I was a bit shook seeing you standing right next to me.” Another fan added, “We saw you but respectfully fan girled in silence. It was neat to just be in the same camper as you!”

Pink, who’s from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, captioned the post, “Hershey Park for the win. RVs for days- rollercoasters and arcades….. I haven’t been in these woods since I was four! Philly hometown I’m coming in hot!”

The singer performs at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on September 18 and 19.

The fans who’d hoped *NSYNC‘s reunion for the new song “Better Place” — and their MTV VMA appearance — was just the first step towards a full-fledged reunion tour should be prepared to be let down.  Billboard has confirmed that there aren’t currently any plans for the quintet to hit the road together any time soon.

The reason, Billboard confirms, is that Justin Timberlake plans to hit the road solo in 2024, after releasing a new album. In fact, Justin already has a hold on specific arena dates in North America.  This goes along with what JT’s collaborator Timbaland recently told Entertainment Tonight: He said Justin’s new album is coming out “top of next year.”

But if *NSYNC ever did decide to do a full-fledged reunion tour, Billboard projects that such a trek could easily gross $95 million in North America alone. Add in merch sales and sponsorships, the publication notes, and they could be looking at as much as $120 million.

As for whether or not *NSYNC could reunite as a foursome, without Justin, a source tells Billboard that even though JC, Lance, Joey and Chris received offers following their appearance at Coachella in 2019, they never seriously considered it. Billboard reports that according to the source, “anything short of a five-person comeback is off the table.”

Still, “Better Place” may be enough to satisfy some fans. As Lance Bass told ABC Audio earlier this year, “The fans are just saying, ‘Just give us one more song. One more tour, one more show. Just a goodbye.’ And I agree because none of us knew … that would be the last show, the last tour. So I think we owe it to the fans and to ourselves to just have some kind of goodbye message.”

Royal Blood‘s bringing their new album, Back to the Water Below, on the road, and with it, some fresh elements to the duo’s live show.

“We always think about the live show when we’re making music,” frontman Mike Kerr tells ABC Audio. “I mean, that’s the point of our band, that’s why we started.”

“We’re always thinking about, when we look down at the set list, what’s missing? What do we wish we had?” he adds. “And I think a lot of the songs on this record were answering a lot of those questions.”

One thing Back to the Water Below adds to Royal Blood’s sound is the increased presence of piano, which was actually Kerr’s first instrument before he picked up the bass. So will we see Kerr play more piano on tour?

“I’m trying to play as much piano as I can, but I always end up playing the bass,” he says. “I am gunning for it, though.”

Overall, Kerr feels the Royal Blood live experience now offers “a much more dynamic show than ever.”

Royal Blood’s U.S. headlining tour kicks off Monday, September 18, in Detroit. Back to the Water is out now.

Olivia Rodrigo spilled her GUTS, and everyone was here for it.  The singer’s sophomore album GUTS has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart with first-week sales of 302,000 units.

Olivia has now had both of her first two albums debut on top of the Billboard 200.  The last time this happened was nine years ago, when Ariana Grande‘s second album, 2014’s My Everything, started at #1.  Her debut, 2013’s Yours Truly, also topped the chart.

The 302,000 units that GUTS moved gives Olivia the fourth biggest sales week of 2023, and her personal best-ever sales week.

Elsewhere, BTS member V debuts at #2 with his first solo studio album, Layover, with first-week sales of 100,000 units.  Billboard notes that the album’s sales were boosted by its availability in 13 different collectible CD versions.

Get ready for another star-studded special: ACM Honors.

The 16th annual Academy of Country Music Honors is airing on Fox September 18. This year’s ACM Special Awards honorees include Tim McGraw (ACM Icon Award), Chris Stapleton (ACM Triple Crown Award), Kane Brown (ACM International Award) and former Universal Music Group Nashville CEO Mike Dungan (ACM Icon Award).

The show will also feature a plethora of performances, including Brett Young‘s cover of Tim’s “Don’t Take The Girl,” Lee Brice‘s spin on Kane’s “Like I Love Country Music” and Jordan Davis‘ performance of “Buy Dirt” with Christian artist Anne Wilson.

For Jordan, being at this year’s ACM Honors goes beyond the hype of singing onstage. It’s about being in the same room with his peers, and celebrating those in the spotlight and behind the scenes.

“Anytime I get to see buddies and people that I haven’t seen in a long time, it’s awesome. But also, too, we get to honor the people behind the scenes, the people that we see on an everyday basis on the road that’s kind of our home away from home,” Jordan tells the press at this year’s ACM Honors.

“A lot of the people that are here tonight, they kind of take care of us when we’re on tour busses,” he says. “So it’s good for us to be able to get together and say thank you.”

The 16th annual ACM Honors airs September 18 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner has been removed from the board of the Rock & Roll of Fame, a rep for The Hall tells The New York Times. Wenner’s removal comes in response to comments he made in a Times interview that were deemed racist and sexist.

While promoting his new book The Masters, Wenner tried to explain why it didn’t include interviews with any Black or female artists, saying there were no women “articulate enough on this intellectual level.” Regarding Black artists, he acknowledged the genius of Stevie Wonder, but noted, “I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level.”

After receiving a ton of backlash online, Wenner issued an apology. “In my interview with The New York Times I made comments that diminished the contributions, genius and impact of Black and women artists and I apologize wholeheartedly for those remarks,” read the statement issued by his publisher Little, Brown and Company, adding the artists featured in the book, “were not meant to represent the whole of music and its diverse and important originators but to reflect the high points of my career and interviews.”

He notes, “I totally understand the inflammatory nature of badly chosen words and deeply apologize and accept the consequences.”

Wenner was part of a group that founded the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1983. Although there has been an improvement in recent years, the Hall has often been called out for its lack of female and minority inductees.

His book, The Masters, featuring interviews with Bob DylanJohn LennonMick JaggerPete TownshendJerry GarciaBono and Bruce Springsteen, comes out September 26.

Noah Kahan has released a new version of his song “Call Your Mom” featuring “Ceilings” singer Lizzy McAlpine.

The collaboration, which you can listen to now via digital outlets, came about after the two sang “Call Your Mom” together during a recent show in Los Angeles.

“[McAlpine’s] addition brings a hopefulness to this song that gave it a whole new meaning to me,” Kahan says. “This song has been such an important part of our live show and has seemed to resonate with many, and I believe Lizzy brings it to a whole new level.”

The original “Call Your Mom” appears on Kahan’s new Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever) album, which also includes the single “Dial Drunk.” Kahan’s collab with McAlpine follows his new version of “Dial Drunk” with Post Malone.

Corey Taylor has earned his second #1 solo single on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.

The honor belongs to the song “Beyond,” the lead single off the Slipknot frontman’s sophomore solo effort, CMF2. His first #1 was “Black Eyes Blue,” a cut off his 2020 debut solo record, CMFT.

Slipknot, by the way, has never hit #1 on Mainstream Rock Airplay, though they reached #2 twice, with “Snuff” and “The Devil in I.” Taylor’s other band, Stone Sour, has four Mainstream Rock Airplay leaders: “Through Glass,” “Tired,” “Say You’ll Haunt Me” and “Song #3.”

News of the single’s ascension fittingly comes on release day for CMF2, which dropped Friday, September 15. Taylor’s tour in support of the album continues Friday in Wallingford, Connecticut.

Little, Brown and Company

Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner is being blasted over comments he made that some are deeming racist and sexist.

Wenner is releasing a new book, The Masters, on September 26, featuring interviews with seven rock stars —Bob DylanJohn LennonMick JaggerPete TownshendJerry GarciaBono and Bruce Springsteen. Notably, all of them are male — and none are people of color. In the book’s intro he explains there are no interviews with Black artists because they’re not part of his “zeitgeist,” something The New York Times found hard to believe.

The paper asked Wenner to clarify his comments; he defended himself, noting the artists featured in the book weren’t a “deliberate selection,” saying it just “fell together.”

“The people had to meet a couple criteria, but it was just kind of my personal interest and love of them,” he said. “Insofar as the women, just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level.” He argued Joni Mitchell “was not a philosopher of rock ‘n’ roll.”

“She didn’t, in my mind, meet that test. Not by her work, not by other interviews she did,” he said. “The people I interviewed were the kind of philosophers of rock.”

As for Black artists, Wenner acknowledged Stevie Wonder’s genius, but noted, “I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level.”

“Maybe I should have gone and found one Black and one woman artist to include here that didn’t measure up to that same historical standard, just to avert this kind of criticism,” he said. “Maybe I’m old-fashioned and I don’t give a [expletive] or whatever.”
