Nile Rodgers celebrated his 70th birthday on Monday. In honor of the milestone, and to mark the 20th anniversary of his We Are Family Foundation, the legendary guitarist, producer and songwriter is donating $1 million to the organization.

We Are Family Foundation seeks to promote cultural diversity, and to support and encourage young people who are involved with programs that address basic human needs and work toward creating a more peaceful world.

“My mother used to say, ‘It’s better to give than to receive,'” Rodgers says. “I knew the best thing I could do to celebrate my 70th birthday and the 20th anniversary of WAFF was to provide a million-dollar endowment to sustain the foundation’s important work. Our Global Teen Leaders and Youth to the Front Fund ‘Frontliners’ give us their all and this is the least I can do to continue supporting them.”

In 2020, the foundation launched its Youth to the Front Fund, which supports youth activists under age 30 and youth-led organizations and initiatives focused on fighting racism and racial injustice in the U.S. and around the world.

In conjunction with Rodgers’ announcement about the generous endowment, the We Are Family Foundation revealed the latest list of “Frontliners,” almost 30 young activists from around the world who will receive financial assistance from the fund to aid in their various projects.

Rodgers is best known as a co-founding member of the influential funk/R&B group Chic, and he continues to lead the current incarnation of the band. Nile has written and produced songs for an impressive list of well-known artists.

He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 in the Musical Excellence category.

Nearly 10 years later, Kanye admits Sway did have the answers

Kanye West is willing to admit he was wrong when he famously told radio host Sway Calloway that he “aint got the answers.”

The rapper made mention of the 2013 interview when discussing the downfall of his relationship with Gap and Adidas.

“It was all kind of a disregard for the voice of something that I co-created. I co-created the product at Adidas. I co-created the product at Gap,” Ye told ABC News. “That means that I was there for some specific agenda, not for Yeezy Gap to be everything that it could be, or this dream that I had about what the Gap could be. It’s time for me to make my own thing.”

He then admitted, “I will go ahead and say, Sway had the answer.”

For some backstory, Ye vented to Sway in 2013 about the struggles he faced getting support from major corporations in the fashion industry. The host then encouraged him to push forward without the backing of those big businesses, prompting the now-viral response from Ye: “How Sway? You ain’t got the answers, man! You ain’t got the answers!”

Like the 2013 clip, Kanye’s admission has sparked many reactions on social media.

Kayne’s full interview airs Thursday night.

(Note Language) After teasing fans with singles “Code” and “54321,” Offset has announced the release date for his as-yet-titled sophomore solo album.

Taking to Twitter Wednesday, the rapper randomly shared a date — 11/11/22 — on his account and followed up with a tweet that clarified that’s the day he’ll be dropping his second record.

Offset’s new album will arrive nearly four years after 2019’s Father of 4, his debut solo LP. Aside from Moneybagg Yo, who is featured on “Code,” he’s collaborated with the likes of Metro BoominSouthside and wife Cardi B for the project. He’s hoping to one day work with a rapper he considers to be a GOAT emcee in his hometown of Atlanta: André 3000

During an interview with Complex, Offset directed a message to 3 Stacks: “André, I done sent you three songs,” said the Migos rapper. He noted “you gotta be selective” when choosing tracks for André, as he only jumps on “certain songs,” and generally praised his musical genius.

“I love his taste,” Offset said.

Offset’s new album will see the rapper discuss struggles relatable to the everyday person.

“When I came in, we came out the trenches, so that’s what people want to hear, because that’s what people go through every day,” he previously told SSENSE. “Ain’t nobody driving a Wraith.”

He continued, “[In] Black culture right now, and the world in general, the poors outweigh the rich one thousand percent. So you gotta talk about s*** that’s going on in real life. Just the real content of what people see every day. Go back to that.”

Halsey opened up to fans in a vulnerable post about feeling a “deep sadness” that’s causing them to doubt themself.

In an Instagram Story posted early Thursday, they explained, “I find that often there is a deep sadness inside me that no amount of worldly pleasure can touch. a loneliness. an emptiness.”

“I wonder often if I chose the wrong life for myself. And the weight of it is suffocating,” Halsey continued. “I’m sorry that melancholy has penetrated my art in a way that hasn’t served a greater purpose other than my own self loathing.”

The message continued, “I am approaching my 28th birthday in a week and just now exhaling and gasping for air for the first time since I took a single breath in this new life at 18. A breath that was meant to sustain me for a decade.”

“I am wandering lawlessly and I hope to find my way somewhere meaningful soon so that I can give you the guts I’ve always known to scoop heapings of into your ears,” Halsey confessed. “They are shriveling lately.”

The singer signed off the post by asking fans that if they “cannot be kind, at least be gentle” with how they react to the news.

It is unknown what triggered Halsey’s latest post.

The “Closer” singer is currently on the Love and Power tour, with a penultimate stop set Thursday night in Dover, Delaware. The trek wraps on Saturday in Las Vegas.

‘Monarch’ EP says story line that resembles Naomi Judd’s death is the “strangest, saddest” coincidence

A story line on the new, country-themed Fox series Monarch may bear some similarities to a real-life tragedy in country music, but show executive producer Jason Owen says it’s a coincidence.

Lead character Dottie Roman — played by Susan Sarandon — is diagnosed with terminal cancer in the show and, wanting to keep control over her life and death, plans her own memorial service and ends her life by taking a lethal dose of pills, with one of her daughters at her side.

Of course, for many country fans, it’s impossible to watch that story play out without thinking of recent events with The Judds. Naomi Judd died by suicide in April at the age of 76, taking her life with a firearm after a long battle with mental illness.

Naomi’s daughter Ashley Judd was at her mother’s house when her death occurred and was the one who discovered her. Additionally, Naomi preplanned her memorial service before she died.

But Owen — who is also an industry executive in country music — tells People that the Monarch scenes were filmed before Naomi’s death.

“What feels like art imitating life is really just one of the strangest, saddest, eeriest coincidences I’ve seen,” he says.

Monarch, which co-stars Trace Adkins and features cameos from superstar guests like Shania Twain and Little Big Town, premiered earlier this month.

Jon Pardi introduces fans to some of his favorite on-the-road items in a new video interview with CMT, showing off some of the essentials that make his tour bus feel like home.

Some of Jon’s tour must-haves are self-explanatory, like a good bottle of whiskey, his acoustic guitar and his choice of workout gear (kettle bells, the singer explains, because they “don’t take up a lot of space” on the bus.)

But other items are more personalized to his music. For example, Jon shows off his custom boot jack, which has his name on it and was gifted to him at the San Antonio rodeo.

Then there’s a product that Jon spent quite a bit of money on, but — so far, at least — hasn’t lived up to the hype. “These are my super uncomfortable $700 slippers,” the singer says, holding up the Gucci shoes in question. “I thought they’d be great, but they dig into my heels, so I have to wear the non-cool socks. I still have to put some miles on it with my non-cool socks before they become really comfortable — I was told.”

Stay tuned for whether or not Jon ever breaks in his shoes, but worst-case scenario, they’ll be a fun thing to send to fellow country star Parker McCollum, Jon says, adding “he’s very Gucci.”

Jon’s tour essentials list will likely soon grow to include diapers, a stroller and a crib: He announced this week that he and wife Summer are expecting their first baby in early 2023.

Kelsea Ballerini says promoting an album during tough personal time makes her feel like a “sociopath”

ABC/Eric McCandless

Kelsea Ballerini’s Subject to Change album is all about growth and the contrasting, complicated emotions it brings — so it makes sense that she’s feeling some complex feelings about her own life as she readies the project.

Of course, a big change going on in the singer’s life right now is her divorce: Kelsea recently announced that she is splitting from husband Morgan Evans after nearly five years of marriage.

“Sometimes while promoting this album I feel like a sociopath, because I’m presenting this thing I’m really proud of, and I’m really happy to be in this chapter and putting this record out,” she explains in conversation with Today’s Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country. “But at the same time, there’s a lot going on in my life.”

Kelsea stresses the fact that, objectively, life is pretty great — she’s got her dream job as a successful singer-songwriter, after all. But life is always a mix of triumphs and challenges, and she hopes her music will reflect that, she continues.

“I talk about this album, about it being a juxtaposition. And I’m in such a juxtaposition while putting it out,” she continues. “So of course it’s like this.”

Subject to Change arrives on Friday.
