On This Day, October 3, 1949: Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham is born

On This Day, October 3, 1949…

Lindsey Buckingham, former singer, lead guitarist and songwriter for Fleetwood Mac, was born in Palo Alto, California.

Before joining Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham and his then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks recorded together as Buckingham Nicks, releasing their debut album in September 1973.

In 1974, Mick Fleetwood invited Lindsey to join Fleetwood Mac, but he would only join if Stevie was with him. The addition of the pair led to huge commercial success for Fleetwood Mac, with the first album featuring the duo, 1975’s self-titled release, going to #1, and the follow-up, Rumours, also topping the chart and becoming the band’s best-selling album.

Buckingham is responsible for writing such Fleetwood Mac classics as “Go Your Own Way,” “Never Going Back Again,” “Tusk,” and “Big Love.”

Buckingham was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Fleetwood Mac in 1998.

He left and rejoined Fleetwood Mac several times over the years, with his last departure coming in April, 2018, when he says he was fired from the group over a disagreement about touring.

Dead & Company wrapped what they said will be their final tour back in July, but it sounds like this won’t be the last time we hear from the band.

While appearing on Watch What Happens LiveJohn Mayer said he believes the group, which also consists of Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, along with Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti, will play again.

When asked about the chances of him going on the road with Dead & Company again, Mayer suggested that the words “on the road” were the issue. “We will play shows,” he said. “I have to believe we love this music so much we’re gonna play shows.”

He added, “We just are trying to figure out what that looks like for the future, but everyone has it in their hearts to keep playing.”

And while there are no plans just yet, host Andy Cohen offered a suggestion, which Mayer seems to be all for. “Two weeks at the Sphere,” Cohen said, referring to the state-of-the-art venue U2 just opened in Las Vegas, with Mayer nodding along at the possibility.

Though Metro Boomin boasts a long list of A-list stars he’s worked with, the super producer has his hopes set on a few more collaborations.

In a recent Billboard excerpt of a larger cover story, he revealed the artists he dreams of working with.

“I still really want to do something with Justin Timberlake,” he said. “I need to work with Miguel. I still have’t worked with Jay-Z.”

With production credits on songs created for Drake21 Savage, Travis ScottThe WeekndFuture and Young Thug, and after the Grammy-nominated, chart-topping success of Metro Boomin Presents Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, he’s now looking to dedicate some of his energy to being an executive.

“The amount of grind and effort I put in my 20s into the music, I’mma put into the business aspect through these 30s,” he said. “I watched my music seeds grow from 20 to 30. I can watch the rest of these grow from 30 to 40.”

For his next move, Metro will attend the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, which tape October 3 in Atlanta, to see if he wins any of the three awards he’s nominated for. The show airs on BET Tuesday, October 10, at 9 p.m. ET.

While Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have grabbed most of the headlines for their stadium tours over the past few months, Pink‘s stadium tour has put her right there with them on Pollstar‘s list of the Top 10 highest-grossing artists this year But don’t mention the word “competition” to her: For her, it’s a win-win situation.

Speaking to Pollstar, Pink says, “I do get the competition question a bunch, and I don’t think any one of us women feels that way, because I think all of us have been around long enough to realize that we can all win at the same time.”

“It feels pretty good to be among this group of women. And how could a person that sells two million tickets ever complain about anything?” she laughs.

“It feels like women are dominating in a way that maybe I haven’t been around for,” Pink adds, referring to years past when the likes of Cher, Tina Turner, Bette Midler and Janet Jackson were raking it in.

“But I also see a lot more men in the audience, older men as well, that are for the first time kind of really open and curious and supportive about this female power,” she points out. “At first it was very confusing, but now I’m diggin’ it.”

As far as her current tour goes, Pink says she’s going to “ride this thing ‘til the wheels come off,” because she knows her concerts serve a higher purpose than just entertainment.

“It is an escape from the everyday bulls***,” she explains. “We’re walking around with this low-level trauma. We get together in this building and we f****** let it go and we feel it, we grieve it, we embrace it and we celebrate it. It’s freaking alchemy. It’s beautiful.”

Asking Alexandria’s latest #1 single is “corny,” but not in a bad way

Asking Alexandria’s latest #1 single is “corny,” but not in a bad way
Better Noise Music

Asking Alexandria‘s “Psycho,” the lead single off the band’s new album, Where Do We Go from Here?, has hit #1 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. It’s the second song from the English rockers to achieve that feat, following “Alone Again.”

“It’s very tongue-in-cheek and cheesy in a way, and kinda has that corniness to it,” frontman Danny Worsnop tells ABC Audio of “Psycho.” “In the same way that, like, ‘Antisocialist’ does and ‘Where Did It Go?,’ where it has that attitude, but it is in a tongue-in-cheek, comedic almost way.”

You probably won’t hear a lot of musicians describe their own songs as “corny,” but Worsnop explains he doesn’t mean it in a bad way.

“It’s very easy to look at, like, Van Halen, and what David Lee Roth does, if you put it just by itself and select those moments, it’s, like, that’s corny as f***,” Worsnop says. “But it’s really cool! It’s just fun, it’s bombastic, that’s what it’s there for. So there is a place for that.”

Like with anything, though, Worsnop feels it’s important to be selective with your corniness.

“Of course, if you do the entire thing like that, you can turn into a caricature of yourself,” he says. “But it’s fun to put little bits of it in, just because it breaks things up and people just wanna have a good time.”

With “Psycho,” those bits help listeners have a good time while listening to a song about maybe having a bad time.

“It’s ironic, ’cause the song does have some dark lyrical matter in there,” Worsnop says. “But it never feels like it.”

Where Do We Go from Here? was released in August. Asking Alexandria’s currently touring in support of the album alongside The Hu.
