Music notes: Jonas Brothers, Camila Cabello and more

All three Jonas Brothers are dads, so of course they’re familiar with the Australian children’s program Bluey. On Tuesday, the band gave their Brisbane, Australia, audience a real-life Bluey collaboration. The second half of their show began with an homage to the show’s theme song — where the names of Bluey’s family members were replaced with Joe, Nick and Kevin. “The collab you never knew you needed,” Jonas Brothers captioned the video on Instagram.

Camila Cabello has posted a snippet of one of her new songs to her Instagram. “coming soon(er than you think)xoxo,” Camila captioned her post. Fans on social media are intrigued that the end of the video includes a sample from Gucci Mane‘s 2009 track “Lemonade.” One fan wrote, “Nothing and I mean nothing could’ve prepared me for the sample that’s on this video omg,” on X, formerly Twitter.

Ariana Grande has dropped a new teaser for her upcoming album, Eternal Sunshine. “Tomorrow night,” Ari captioned the teaser on Instagram. In the video, Ariana is dressed in the outfit she wears on the official cover of Eternal Sunshine. A distorted snippet of one of her new songs plays in the background as she lounges and poses while wearing a white bodysuit and long red gloves.

Jon Bon Jovi’s future daughter-in-law Millie Bobby Brown reveals her favorite Bon Jovi tune

Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown will soon have Jon Bon Jovi as a father-in-law, as she’s been engaged to his son Jake Bongiovi since April 2023. So, does she have a favorite Bon Jovi tune?

“I would say ‘Runaway,’” Brown tells The Mary Sue, referring to Bon Jovi’s debut single, which was released in 1984, 20 years before she was born.

But it’s not her favorite simply because it’s a catchy tune. The track actually appeared in Stranger Things and she sees that as some sort of sign.

“Because in Stranger Things, ‘Runaway’ plays over one of my scenes. So it was foreshadowing my engagement,” the 20-year-old explains. “I was like, ‘They knew, Stranger Things knew. Like Netflix always knows.’”

She adds, “If you’re ever in doubt, Netflix will solve it. Don’t worry. But yeah, I think ‘Runaway’ is such a good song.”

Maroon 5 celebrates their second single, “This Love,” hitting 1 billion streams

A&M/Octone Records

It only took Maroon 5‘s song “This Love” 20 years to hit a major Spotify milestone.

On Instagram, the band celebrated the 2004 single racking up 1 billion Spotify streams with a video montage celebrating the track’s origins. The montage shows handwritten lyrics, production notes and video showing a very young James Valentine, Maroon 5’s guitarist, recalling how he woke up one day to hear their keyboardist Jesse Carmichael playing the riff that would become “This Love.”

We also see Jesse in the studio recording his part of the song, young Adam Levine in the booth laying down his vocals and then a snippet of the finished track. “Look at THIS LOVE!” reads the caption.

“This Love” was Maroon 5’s second single, from their 2002 album, Songs About Jane. Inspired by Levine’s breakup with his girlfriend, it was the band’s first top 10 hit. The video won them an MTV VMA for Best New Artist. A live version of the song went on to win them the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 2006 Grammy Awards.

Reverend refers to GloRilla as “gospel artist,” cites “Tomorrow” verse in sermon

ABC/Randy Holmes

From the Billboard charts to the church! The lyrics of GloRilla‘s “Tomorrow” have been made into a sermon.

Baltimore Reverend Melech E.M. Thomas delivered a sermon Sunday at the Payne Memorial A.M.E. Church in which he cited the song from Glo, who he repeatedly referred to as a “gospel artist.” He specifically quoted the lyric, “Every day the sun won’t shine, but that’s why I love tomorrow.”

Thomas dedicated the line to “people that life aint been the kindest to you” but who understand the truth in the psalm, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” He later shared a clip for fans to watch on Instagram.

“My love for preaching has always been influenced by the similarities between Black preachers and rappers,” Thomas wrote in the caption Tuesday. “From content, delivery, stage presence, and, sometimes, even the message.@glorillapimpconsistently puts out affirming and inspirational lyrical content and…consistently, her lyrics find their way into my sermons.”

“This small clip from Sunday’s sermon speaks to how quickly God can ‘spin the block’ on you, using a bar from Big Glo’s song ‘Tomorrow 2’! I hope that this serves as a reminder that no matter how rough your day may end, you can always fall in love with your Tomorrow!” he concluded.

GloRilla reposted the video on her socials, writing, “PREACH ! Yeah Glo” in the caption.

“Hardcore Swiftie” Millie Bobby Brown tracks Taylor’s movements

Weiss Eubanks/NBC Universal

Millie Bobby Brown is about to become Jon Bon Jovi‘s daughter-in-law, but her personal music taste leans more to Taylor Swift. In fact, while appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Wednesday, she described herself as a “hardcore Swiftie.”

“I know exactly where she is at all times kinda thing,” the Stranger Things actress added.

“Some might call that a stalker … but who needs to say words?” Kelly joked. Millie insisted that her tracking of Taylor is “loosely based” and therefore not stalker-ish.

She continued, “I love Taylor … I went to the Eras Tour and it was just … it was the most amazing experience. The fans there are just so … they’re the same as me — we love her that much. And you know how she does, like, surprise songs at each show? We have a board, me and my sister, and we, like, cross out the songs that she’s done, so we know which ones are left, so that we know what she’s gonna do next.”

Millie said she flew to Ohio just to see Taylor.

“She played ‘evermore’ and I collapsed to the ground,” she joked.

Mille stars in the Netflix film Damsel, which debuts on Friday. Taylor’s currently playing in Singapore on her Eras Tour.

NOFX announces new EP, ’Half Album’

Fat Wreck Chords

NOFX has announced a new EP called Half Album.

The five-track collection is due out April 19 and follows the similarly self-descriptive title of the punk outfit’s last two releases, 2021’s Single Album and 2022’s Double Album.

“Was it worth spending five years finishing the five songs on my double album project that I thought were the worst of the bunch?” wonders frontman Fat Mike of the EP. “Was it a good idea to spend so much time raising the runts of the litter? Was it an error in judgement when I wrote a song about the magnitude of my arrogance? I think the answers to all these rhetorical questions might be found by listening to this half-sided album … but I seriously doubt it.”

The first single off of Half Album is called “I’m a Rat” and is accompanied by a video that takes advantage of Steamboat Willie entering the public domain. You can watch that streaming now on YouTube.

Half Album will arrive in the midst of NOFX’s farewell tour. The band’s last-ever show will take place October 6 in Los Angeles.
