Kelly Clarkson‘s become known for covering rock and alternative songs from Red Hot Chili Peppers to blink-182 to The Smashing Pumpkins on the “Kellyoke” segment of her talk show. Now, alt-rock vets Toadies are returning the favor.

The “Possum Kingdom” outfit has shared a cover of the inaugural American Idol winner’s 2000s pop hit “Since U Been Gone.” The recording is included on a new compilation called Texas Wild, which features Texas artists covering songs by fellow Lone Star State musicians in support of Texas state parks. Both Toadies and Clarkson hail from Fort Worth.

“When the discussion started about covering a fellow Texas artist for this compilation I was a bit overwhelmed,” says frontman Vaden Lewis. “There are just so many great ones to choose from! In my frustration I mentioned it to my wife, who yelled ‘KELLYCLARKSONSINCEUBEENGONE!'”

“It seemed like the perfect fit, in that it’s very out of character for The Toadies,” he adds. “We’re always looking to push our limits. This song particularly pushed my personal limits as a vocalist. Plus it’s hella fun to play!”

Toadies are also working on their own new album, recorded with In Utero producer Steve Albini. The record is due out in 2024.

Cher is not a fan of her own voice

Cher has sold millions of records, but she likely isn’t listening to any of her own music because she is “not a Cher fan.”

“I just never liked my voice that much. If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn’t get my choice. I got my mother’s voice,” she says in an interview with Paper magazine. “It doesn’t sound like a man, it doesn’t sound like a woman. I’m somewhere more in-between.”

Cher says she sings in a “strange style,” explaining, “I do what you do when you can’t hold a note: I don’t pronounce my Rs. I guess some consonants are hard to sing, so I just gotta leave them open.”

Finally, she notes, “I mean, people seem to like it and I’m happy as a clam, but I wouldn’t have picked it.”

While she may not like listening to her own voice, Cher sure hopes fans like to, particularly this Christmas. Her first holiday album, Christmas, is out now.

Queen Production Ltd.

Queen is sharing another classic performance in this week’s episode of their weekly YouTube series, Queen The Greatest Live.

The latest episode focuses on a July 1986 performance of “A Kind of Magic,” which Roger Taylor wrote for the film Highlander. The performance took place at London’s Wembley Stadium and shows how frontman Freddie Mercury brought the song to life onstage.

“Originally, ‘A Kind Of Magic’ was used at the end of the movie, over the closing credits,” Roger once shared. “It was a grander concept with a much more broken-up tempo. Freddie really believed in this song and we reworked it as a single.”

“A Kind of Magic” was the third single off Queen’s 1986 album of the same name. It peaked at #3 on the U.K. charts and at #42 in the U.S.

“It became very popular onstage,” Roger says of the song, “and when we did it on the 1986 Magic Tour, which was our last ever tour, it used to go down incredibly well.”

Next week on Queen The Greatest Live: “Stone Cold Crazy.”

Just as Offset thought he was finished with his newest album, Set It Off, a new track from Don Toliver came in.

Worth It” ended up becoming his favorite song from the project, but he told People it wasn’t an album original.

“I got that song two weeks before the album came [out],” the rapper said. “The album was already done and I felt like I had everything, and then he came to the studio in L.A. and played me the record and I’m like, ‘Yo, what is this?'”

Offset said that he immediately got attached to the song, so he cut his verse last minute.

“It was like a fourth quarter — it was like a fourth quarter buzzer beater,” he added.

“Worth It” featuring Toliver is one of 21 songs on Offset’s sophomore solo album. It’s catchy, slow-burning vibe, with the sample of Busta Rhymes‘ “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See,” has become a favorite among fans. The song, along with “Say My Grace” and “Broad Day,” nabbed a spot on Billboard‘s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Set It Off debuted at number two on both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts. It opened at number five on the all-genre Billboard 200 list.

Blank check: Taylor Swift is officially a billionaire

Blank check: Taylor Swift is officially a billionaire
Blank check: Taylor Swift is officially a billionaire
Taylor Swift Productions

Taylor Swift is everywhere lately, and she has the bankroll to prove it: She’s officially a billionaire — and that was even before 1989 (Taylor’s Version) came out Friday.

This is from the financial wonks at Bloomberg, who note that the staggering success of her Eras Tour — its $4.3 billion ticket haul Bloomberg reports “generated as much money as the economies of small countries” — and the blockbuster success of the movie version of that tour, pushed Swift’s net worth to $1.1 billion.

As the financial news service points out, Taylor is “one of the few entertainers to reach that status based on music and performing alone,” and hitting the “B” mark was “the result of work and talent, but also canny marketing and timing.”

As an example of said canny marketing, Taylor circumvented studio distribution, and provided Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour directly to AMC Theatres, giving her a staggering 57% cut of each $19.89 ticket sold.

The concert film is closing in on $190 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. You do the math.

That said, Bloomberg notes the $1.1 billion valuation is being “conservative,” and “based only on assets and earnings that could be confirmed or traced from publicly disclosed figures.”

Its tabulation, “took into account the following: the estimated value of her music catalog and five homes, and earnings from streaming deals, music sales, concert tickets and merchandise.”
