Bruce Springsteen was the surprise guest at a symposium this weekend celebrating the 50th anniversary of his sophomore album, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, the Asbury Park Press reports.

The event was held at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey, on Saturday, October 28, with Springsteen interviewed by Robert Santelli, executive director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music. He also sat in on a panel that featured original E Street Band members Vini Lopez and David Sancious, and original and current member, Garry Tallent.

“The album is a lovely wild card — me finally getting a chance to express myself,” Springsteen told the audience. “Everything I’ve basically done for the rest of my career started on The Wild and the Innocent. It’s a lovely little record and I’m still very proud of it.”

“The main thing for me on The Wild and the Innocent was that I wanted to introduce myself as a rock ‘n’ roll performer,” he continued, noting he wasn’t supposed to put any electric guitar on his debut album, Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J., because he was originally signed as a singer/songwriter.

He added, “But the second record I knew I wanted to write basically a rock and soul music.”

Released in 1973, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle received critical praise but wasn’t initially a commercial success. It features future Springsteen classic “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)” and fan favorites like “4th of July Asbury Park (Sandy),” “Kitty’s Back” and more.

Charlie Puth paid tribute to Matthew Perry over the weekend, after the Friends star passed away at age 54.

Charlie, a known Friends superfan, performed the Friends theme song — The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There for You” — during his Sunday show in Melbourne, Australia. He then transitioned into his 2015 song “See You Again,” a poignant song about loss that was originally written as a tribute to late actor Paul Walker and used in the Furious 7 film.

A fan captured the moment in a video posted to TikTok. “This gave me full body chills. RIP Matthew Perry,” one person commented. Another wrote, “He did this and then See you Again whattt. that song makes me sob everytime. But now I’m sobbing even harder.”

Back in 2019, Charlie tested his knowledge of Friends trivia with Courteney Cox on the Billboard show Quizzed. He later became real-life friends with Courteney, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow.

When news broke of the HBO Max Friends reunion special, which aired in 2021, Charlie told E! News he’d do anything to be a part of it. “I could play Chandler’s long lost son,” he said. “People think that I am very similar to him.”

Taylor Swift may not have been there to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday, October 29, but a very different kind of musician was at the game.

Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladonna was on hand at Colorado’s Empower Field at Mile High to sing the national anthem before the game. The “Madhouse” singer posted footage of his performance, for which he wore a Broncos coat, on his Instagram.

“Thank you Denver Broncos for your hospitality and the honor to sing the National Anthem at Mile High Stadium!” Belladonna writes in the caption. “And without saying, thank you to the 62nd Fighter Squadron from Luke Air Force Base for their participation and service.”

Perhaps it was Belladonna’s rendition that inspired the Broncos, who won the game 24-9 and snapped a 16-game losing streak to the Chiefs. Either that, or Chief tight end Travis Kelce was too distraught that girlfriend Swift wasn’t in the bleachers.
