On This Day, November 3, 1992…

Bon Jovi released their fifth studio album, Keep the Faith, which peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and went on to be certified double Platinum by the RIAA.

The album produced two hit singles: the title track, which landed in the top 40, and “Bed of Roses,” which peaked at #10. It also featured the fan favorite, “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.”

Keep the Faith was the last Bon Jovi album to feature all five original members of the band. Bass guitarist Alec John Such was let go from the group in 1994. Such passed away in 2022 at the age of 70.

Barely 24 hours after debuting their new single, “Now and Then,” The Beatles are back with the track’s video.

The clip, directed by Peter Jackson, features archival footage of John Lennon and the band, clips of Paul McCartneyRingo Starr and George Harrison in the recording studio in the ’90s, and current footage of Paul and Ringo.

There are even clips that blend the archival and current footage to make it feel like the whole band is playing together and with younger versions of themselves.

According to Jackson, the video features “a collection of unseen outtakes in the vault, where the Beatles are relaxed, funny and rather candid.” He adds, “We wove humour into some footage shot in 2023. The result is pretty nutty and provided the video with much needed balance between the sad and the funny.”

Finally, he notes, “I realised we needed the imagination of every viewer to create their own personal moment of farewell to The Beatles.”

“Now and Then” uses vocals Lennon recorded on a demo in the late ’70s. Jackson developed new technology to isolate Lennon’s instruments and vocals, and Paul and Ringo completed the song in 2022, using guitar parts Harrison recorded in the ’90s during the sessions for their Anthology series.

Congratulations are in order for up-and-coming rapper ScarLip, who recently earned her first placement on a Billboard chart.

Thanks to her recently released single “No Statements,” the New York rapper, born Sierra Lewis, landed the number 40 spot on the most up-to-date Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, dated November 4.

The newfound success is also due in part to the song’s success on TikTok, which Billboard reports has been used in over 70,000 clips on the platform.

While the chart achievement is a first for the rising star, she earned Billboard recognition when her home state anthem “This is New York” was named one of the 50 best songs of 2023 so far. The breakthrough single is also described as the bridge between being an independent rapper and signing with Epic Records earlier this year.

In her Instagram Story, ScarLip celebrated the early milestone with a note about hitting the Billboard chart “without any feature … just me” and a sweet text message exchange in which her godmother asked if she remembered being told that “No Statements” “was a hit.”

“God is good so happy and proud of you baby,” ScarLip’s godmother said.

Selena Gomez is taking a break from Instagram.

In a since-deleted Story posted on November 2, the 31-year-old pop star wrote, “I’m taking a break and deleting my Instagram. I’m done. I do not support any of what’s going on.”

While the Instagram Story swiftly disappeared from her account, Selena’s Instagram profile remained active at the time of this report.

The post comes just days after she used the platform to express her views on the Gaza conflict.

“I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that’s going on in the world. People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific,” she wrote in an Instagram Story late Monday, October 30. “We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good.”

“I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick,” the Only Murders in the Building star continued.”I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t.”

Selena’s last social media break came earlier this year in February.

Many R.E.M. fans still mourn the day in 2011 when the band announced their breakup, but those holding out hope they may one day reunite will likely be disappointed.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone to promote the 25th anniversary reissue of their 11th studio album, Up, bassist Mike Mills insists he and his bandmates, Michael StipePeter Buck and Bill Berry, will not be getting back together.

“There is not,” he replied, when asked if there was a chance of a reunion tour. “We’ve all got our own things that we’re doing, and I think we’re all really happy with the way things are.”

And Mills said seeing another huge band onstage made him realize he didn’t really miss going out on a big tour.

“I went to see U2 a few years ago, and they were so good. I was sitting there thinking, ‘Man, I could be up there doing that. That would be so much fun,’” he explained. “I said, ‘They’ll be doing it tomorrow night, and the night after that, and the week after that, and the week after that, and the month after that.’ I said, ‘You know what? It’s actually OK.’”

As for the breakup, Mills said they all knew it was the right time to go their separate ways.

“The music industry had radically changed. Our relationship to it had changed. Our record contract was up. Our record company was very different,” he said. “We said, ‘Let’s do something that nobody’s done and shake hands and walk away as friends, and go do other things while we’re still young enough to do them.'”

The 25th anniversary reissue of Up will be released November 10. It is available for preorder now.

Systemtactic/Universal Music Operations Limited

Portishead has released a newly remastered edition of their 1998 live album, Roseland NYC Live, in honor of its 25th anniversary.

The orchestra-backed performance was recorded largely in 1997 at the now-closed Roseland Ballroom in New York City between the release of Portishead’s 1994 debut album, Dummy, and their 1997 self-titled release.

“I’ve always held the memory of this show which we played before our second album was released,” says Portishead’s Adrian Utley. “This was the first time an audience had heard the new tunes and it was put together to launch that album. Great care was taken over the orchestrations and look of the filming. It preceded a year long World tour for us. Recorded and filmed in the legendary Roseland Ballroom in New York which unfortunately doesn’t exist any more.”

You can listen to the 25th anniversary edition of Roseland NYC Live, which also includes three bonus tracks, now via digital outlets. It’ll be available on CD and vinyl at a later date.

In addition to names like Paul McCartney, Rob Halford and Joan Jett, Dolly Parton‘s upcoming Rockstar album includes a collaboration with Kid Rock. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the country icon talks about why she wanted to work with the controversial “All Summer Long” artist.

“I did a song with Kid Rock on this album,” Parton says. “Of course I did that before the controversy that he had, but somebody was talking to me the other day, ‘How could you do this [song] with Kid?’ I said, ‘Hey, just because I love you don’t mean I don’t love Kid Rock. Just because I love Kid Rock don’t mean I don’t love you.’ I don’t condemn or criticize. I just accept and love.”

Parton doesn’t specify to which controversy she’s referring — Rock has certainly ruffled many a feather over the years — but he made headlines this year when he shot up a case of Bud Light after the beer was promoted by transgender influencer and activist Dylan Mulvaney.

“Like I said, I had done [the song] before, but I’d have probably still done it, because [Rock] is a gifted guy, and that song was about a bad boy,” Parton says. “It was about a boy that was cheating and mistreating her. But like I say, I love everybody. I don’t criticize, I don’t condone nor condemn. I just accept them. But anyhow, just because I love you don’t mean I don’t love Kid Rock in that God way.”

In response to a question about her thoughts on cancel culture, Parton says, “I think that’s terrible.”

“We all make mistakes,” she says. “We don’t all get caught at it. But also when somebody makes a mistake, it depends on who they are. That’s what God is there for.”

Rockstar drops November 17.

Dolly Parton’s upcoming album, Rockstar, features a collaboration with Stevie Nicks — and while it isn’t a cover, it isn’t a new song either.

Dolly tells The Hollywood Reporter that the track, “What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done to Me,” was actually written by Stevie for Fleetwood Mac.

Dolly says Stevie told her it was a song written “back when we were in the heat of our stuff,” telling Dolly she loved the song but the band didn’t think it was good enough to be on a record.

Stevie told her the song was about another rocker she had an affair with. “She wrote that about their relationship because they had fun about it. ‘What has rock ’n’ roll ever done for you?’ They said, ‘Well, everything,’ because they were both famous and rich,” Dolly explained. “She just said, ‘I just love this song. I’d like to do it just to commemorate that time in my life and that person.’”
