“By the way, I love this song a whole lot. Congrats again,” Luke tells Morgan before kicking off his acoustic performance of Morgan’s #1 hit.

“Honored to be @bmi Songwriter of the Year alongside my buddy @morganwallen,” the “Hurricane” hitmaker adds in the caption of his Instagram video.

Janet Jackson‘s attendance at a Jaguar Tour show meant the world to Victoria Monét

The singer/songwriter said so in a lengthy, touching post shared to Instagram, in which she poured her heart out to her “idol,” naming the many ways Jackson’s inspired her career and thanking the icon for her artistry.

Noting that she’s held onto a series of pictures of their special meetup “because the fact that this moment even actually happened has had me blushingly speechless,” Monét said she finally attempted to verbalize the “weight of what” Jackson means to her and “accurately reflect” her emotions.

Though “no words even hold a candle” to the star’s true feelings about Jackson, she thought the “most authentic” way to express gratitude is through her life’s musical work.

“There you will find all the ways you’ve shown up for me with your timeless art, and all of the ways I’ve cherished the blueprint you’ve engraved and are still writing to this day!” she said.

She noted “there is no me as an artist without Janet Jackson” and called Jackson “my legend and a huge part of my future legacy as a strong root of it all.”

“The inspiration you’ve gifted is oceans deep and generations long!” she added.

Monét ended her note thanking Jackson for attending the show and expressing her hopes on continuing to give the legendary artist her flowers.

“I love you to no end,” she said.

The sweet tribute follows Monét’s seven Grammy nominations at the upcoming 2024 show, all of which stem from her latest album, Jaguar II, and her smash hit “On My Mama.”

On This Day, November 15, 1980…

Blondie landed their fifth U.K. #1 single with “The Tide Is High,” from their fifth studio album, Autoamerican. It would be another 18 years before Blondie topped the U.K. chart again, landing at #1 in 1999 with the track “Maria.”

“The Tide Is High” was a cover of a 1967 song originally performed by the Jamaican group The Paragons, with the tune’s songwriter John Holt singing lead on the track.

Blondie’s version of “The Tide Is High” also went on to hit #1 in the U.S., becoming their third and final #1 single. It also topped the charts in Canada and New Zealand.

Porno for Pyros just got back together a year ago, but they’re already gearing up to say goodbye.

The Perry Farrell-led band has announced the rescheduled dates for their Horns, Thorns en Halos tour, which was originally set to launch in October but was postponed so the group could focus on recording new music. A press release describes the trek as a “farewell tour.”

“At long last, the final farewell,” PfP adds in a Facebook post. “It will be a blaze of glory, one magnificent ball of fire. This is the final chapter for all the weirdos and unsung heroes. We can’t wait to share these final performances with you. Let’s give it everything we’ve got!”

The tour runs from February 13 in Santa Ana, California, to March 10 in Montclair, New Jersey. Tickets go on sale Friday, November 17, at 10 a.m. local time. Those who purchased tickets to the postponed dates will have access to a presale beginning Wednesday, November 15, at noon local time.

Meanwhile, a new Porno for Pyros song called “Agua” is set to drop on Thursday, November 16. It’s the first single off an upcoming EP, due out in 2024, ahead of the tour.

Dua Lipa‘s new single is called “Houdini,” so when it came time for her to hold a special fan event in Los Angeles, there was only one venue where she wanted to have it: the Houdini Estate in Laurel Canyon.

Legendary magician and escape artist Harry Houdini lived on the estate for a time before his death in 1926 and would practice his death-defying escapes in its pool. Dua and her fans took it over on November 14 to celebrate the launch of the single.

As the song played throughout the property, Dua danced with fans and surprised others who were trying to find their way out of an escape room set up for the occasion. There were also food trucks, specialty cocktails and “Houdini”-inspired photo ops.

Dua’s first fan event took place last week in London at the English National Ballet, where the “Houdini” video  — which racked up 10 million views in 24 hours —was filmed. There’s one more fan event coming up November 20 in Tokyo.

“Houdini” is the first single from Dua’s upcoming third album, on which she collaborated with Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker.

Earlier this week, Dua wrote on Instagram, “feeeling all the loveeee on Houdini!! Got a whirlwind few weeks coming up but I just wanted to take a little moment to thank you all so so much!!! I can’t believe we’re back at it again!!!”

MCA/UMe

Just in time for the holidays, the late Jimmy Buffet’s 1996 Christmas album, Christmas Island, is being released on vinyl for the first time.

The album features covers of holiday staples like “Jingle Bells,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “Up on the House Top” and “Run Rudolph Run” along with the John Lennon classic “Happy Xmas (War is Over).” It also features two originals, “A Sailor’s Christmas” and “Merry Christmas, Alabama (Never Far from Home),” along with the original release’s hidden track, Buffett’s take on “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

The original album was released on CD, with Buffett sharing in the liner notes that he was a Christmas baby, born on the same day W.C. Fields died. “I think this only goes to prove that God does have a sense of humor,” he noted.

Buffett added, “Christmas Island is a collection of songs, not ladled over with sugary sentimentality and not too far out there in the strange corridors down which my mind sometimes wanders, and I hope it is what you would expect from the Christmas War baby turned island boy born on the day W.C. Fields died.”

Christmas Island will be released December 15 with two vinyl options: standard black and limited edition red. It is available for preorder now.

Chris Cavanaugh

Just in time for the holidays, beloved gospel singer Kirk Franklin adds his flare to a festive classic, “Joy to the World.”

Released exclusively on Spotify and recorded at the Spotify studio in Los Angeles, the new single is described as an uplifting song to bring encouragement and joy.

Franklin’s “Joy to the World” follows his latest studio album Father’s Day, which he produced during the life-changing event of meeting his birth father after more than 50 years.

He told ABC Audio that it was “pretty traumatic” recording the 10-track project amid the unexpected news.

“It was so out of body that it really felt like that I was watching someone else have to experience something,” he said.

Pentatonix talk “energizing” new Christmas tour, welcoming their kids on the road

Pentatonix launched their annual Christmas tour November 14 in Palm Springs, California, just two months after finishing their World Tour — but switching into Christmas mode isn’t a big deal for them.

“It’s not that hard,” says Pentatonix member Mitch Grassi.  “We’re basically thinking about Christmas the entire year. So it’s kind of like, ‘O.K.,  now is the time for it to actually manifest into the world.'”

Group member Scott Hoying adds, “It’s also energizing, because it’s like, we’re switching gears, so it feels fresh and new and fun.”  Scott says he always looks forward to one special moment each night.

“I love when we start ‘Hallelujah‘ and the crowd goes crazy,” he says. “‘Cause I know, being at a concert when they play the song you want to hear, you’re just like, ‘Ahhhh!’ You’re like, so excited with your friends. And so to be able to provide that moment for families … I always get a kick out of that.”

The two Pentatonix members who are parents —  Kirstin Maldonado and Kevin Olusola — get a kick out of having their kids on the road with them. Kevin can’t wait for his wife and daughter Kaia to join him for a show.

“She’s now two and a half and she’s extremely eloquent, extremely verbal,” he says of Kaia. “And so I can’t wait to see … what she is looking at and understanding about Christmas.”

Kirstin feels the same way about her daughter.

“Elliana was 4-and-a-half months old when she came out on tour with us for Christmas, and so she was still kind of like a little baby potato,” Kirstin recalls. “But she would put on her headphones and watch us sing and loved it. Now, [she’s] 15 months … so I’m really excited to see her awareness of everything.”
