John Mayer marks the one-year anniversary of Bob Saget’s death: “I loved that guy”

Monday marked the one-year anniversary of comedian Bob Saget‘s death, and one of his closest friends, John Mayer, took to Instagram to pay tribute to the former Full House star.

“One year ago today, we lost Bob Saget. I loved that guy. I love saying ‘I loved that guy.’ Soon after he left us, I couldn’t finish those three words without falling apart, but now I say it with all the simplicity and complexity that love itself entails,” John wrote next to a photo of a smiling Saget on an airport tarmac.

“I knew he was otherworldly while he was here,” John continued. “Every moment we spent together was the stuff of Old Hollywood Magic, of dinners and drinks and stories and laughs and memories you knew were cutting deep grooves into your soul as the lathe was turning.”

He concluded, “I miss him all the time, but those memories? They’re solid objects. And today we’ll take them out and hold them and trade them and remember how much Bob Saget meant to us.”

Saget’s widow Kelly Rizzo responded in the comments, “Man, did he love you. And he always will. I mean look at his face… that sheer happiness is the look of ‘yay I get to fly home with John!’ – so happy you captured that.”

Saget died in his Florida hotel room on January 9, 2022. The cause of death was determined to be head trauma; drugs and alcohol weren’t involved. After Saget died, John paid for a private plane to transport his body back to California and later served as a pallbearer at his funeral.

For Luke Combs, the right riff at the right time equals “Going, Going, Gone”

ABC

Luke Combs is in the middle of an incomparable career streak: Last year, “The Kind of Love We Make” became his 14th consecutive #1 song.

Even more incredible, that means every single the CMA Entertainer of the Year has ever released has gone all the way to the top of the chart.

The song that’s likely to become his 15th #1 is his current hit, “Going, Going, Gone.”

“[It’s] a song I wrote in Montana with two of my best friends,” Luke says, referring to Ray Fulcher and James McNair. “And I really just had that riff I was playing on the guitar, and we all kinda were like really interested in that.”

“And [I] went through the phone and I had that title ‘Going, Going, Gone’ in my phone for a really long time, and always just never found the right time or moment, or maybe it was the riff, you know?” he continues. “I never matched it up with the music right, and I feel like we finally got it right that time.”

Just last week, Luke announced an unexpected album of 18 new songs that’s set to be released March 24. It’s the follow-up to Growin’ Up, which came out last June.

Brian May shares fan art inspired by his recent knighthood

Denis Pellerin

As previously reported, Brian May was knighted as part of the 2023 New Year’s Honours List, the first from King Charles. Well, the new honor apparently inspired a lot of fan art, and the Queen guitarist was so flattered by it he couldn’t help but share some of his favorites.

May posted two carousels of knight-inspired artwork from fans, writing, “THANKS to all of you who have so kindly supported me on this new journey. I love ALL ‘my’ artists, and friends, and this is just a selection of your lovely messages which made me smile.”

He also cautioned some fans whose art may have not made the post. “If you find yourself saying ‘my stuff is more worthy than his, or hers – it should have been ME who got that attention, or success, or glory’ … take a good long look deep inside,” he writes. “A good friend of mine had a favourite phrase … so true … he said simply ‘Talent will Out.’ That friend was Freddie Mercury.”

Finally, May shared, “Don’t let envy, or jealousy, or insecurity drain your power. Just work towards your vision. If you want it enough, you will find it. The more generosity you put out, the more will come back to you.”

Check out the artwork here and here.

Paul McCartney nearly got run over recreating ‘Abbey Road’ crossing

Mary McCartney

Who can forget the classic cover of The Beatles’ 1969 album, Abbey Road, featuring the infamous photo of the band walking across the street? Well, apparently Sir Paul McCartney recently tried to recreate it — and it almost turned into a disaster.

While talking about her Abbey Road documentary If These Walls Could Sing, director Mary McCartney, Paul’s daughter, shared that her favorite part of shooting the film was when her dad walked across the iconic crosswalk again. But she says he almost got run over doing it.

“The bit where the car nearly ran him over on the zebra crossing, that was so funny,” she tells The Mirror“As we were leaving [the studio], I said, ‘I’ll film you [on the crossing],’ and he went over and this car totally didn’t stop for him!”

If These Walls Could Sing is currently streaming on Disney+.
