In addition to their music, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix were known for their unique styles. Now music fans have a chance to own a piece of their look, thanks to a new auction taking place this weekend.

A collection of personally owned or worn apparel and accessories from the two stars is going up for auction Saturday, April 8, through Kruse GWS Auctions in Los Angeles. 

Joplin items up for grabs include her famous purple feather boa, which she wore at a San Francisco photo shoot with Bob Seidemann. There’s also Joplin’s copper and leather necklace and a knit shoulder bag, which the auction house says still has “a faint smell of patchouli.”

Also available will be a pair of tan suede bell-bottoms with leaf details, personally worn by Hendrix, along with a brown eyelet fringe belt, a worn custom-made decorated vest and more.

James Taylor has added some more dates to his upcoming summer tour. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer announced five new shows, with stops in Connecticut, Boston, New York and New Jersey.

The new dates kick off August 29 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, followed by a two-night stand in Boston, August 31 and September 1. He then heads to Wantagh, New York, on September 3, followed by Holmdel, New Jersey, September 4.

Presale tickets go on sale Tuesday, August 4, at 10 a.m. ET, with the general sale set for Friday, April 7, at 10 a.m. ET.

Taylor is set to kick off his upcoming tour on May 25 in Woodinville, Washington. The trek wraps up with a two-night stand September 8 and 10 in Vienna, Virginia. A complete list of dates can be found at jamestaylor.com.

The new Guardians of the Galaxy movie is set to hit theaters on May 5 and of course it comes with another great soundtrack.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Awesome Mix Vol. 3 includes such classic tunes as Bruce Springsteen’s “Badlands” and Heart’s “Crazy On You,” along with Rainbow’s “Since You Been Gone” and Alice Cooper’s “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows.”

The 17-song soundtrack will drop digitally and on CD May 3, with a two-LP, 12-inch vinyl set coming May 5 and a cassette version dropping July 7.

Yes’ Jon Anderson was replaced in the band in 2004 as he was dealing with a medical condition, but he doesn’t seem to be holding a grudge about it.

“In a way, it was a breakthrough for me,” he tells Rolling Stone about Yes going on tour without him. “I was emotionally still able to enjoy performing the songs that I wrote for the band. You have to let go of things and just get on with life.”

Yes has continued over the years in various forms. Steve Howe recently announced his version of the band will release the new album Mirror To The Sky on May 19, but it doesn’t sound like Anderson is too excited for it.

“It’s Steve’s idea of Yes, I suppose,” he says. “It’s hard to pinpoint. I’ve listened to a couple of songs, of course, and they’re OK. But I’m still into the voyage of musical Yes. I’m totally into the original idea of it.”

As for how Anderson feels about Howe using a singer who sounds just like him, he shares, “There’s a phrase for that: Imitation is the most sincere most form of flattery.” 

And for fans holding out hope they will one day come together again, it doesn’t sound likely. “Well, it’s not going to happen as far as I know,” Anderson says. “I’ve mentioned a couple of times over the years that I’m very open to giving it a whirl. In these days, though, you never know what’s going to happen.” 

Meanwhile, Jon Anderson is getting ready to perform Yes classics on the road. His new tour, with the cover group The Band Geeks, kicks off April 14 in Westbury, New York. A complete list of dates can be found at JonAndersonYesEpicsandClassics.com.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has announced they plan to continue on following the March death of guitarist and founding member Gary Rossington.

In a statement, Johnny Van Zant, who has been the band’s lead singer for 36 years, calls Rossington “my brother, bandmate and friend,” adding, “We would do anything for each other.” 

“Gary, along with my brother Ronnie (Van Zant) and Allen (Collins) started this band and left us all a legacy of music that has stood the test of time, and crossed three generations of fans,” he shares. “The music they created, and the music we created, together since 1987, was always meant to be experienced LIVE … the music should continue for everyone to love and enjoy. So we will continue to perform for the Skynyrd Nation.”

Rossington’s widow, Dale, adds that Gary “made it known at every chance to express how timeless the music was, and it was always his goal to keep the music alive for his brothers because that was always their dream.” She notes “his dream will continue thanks to Johnny, Rickey (Medlocke) and the rest of our band mates to continue to carry his legacy and music on for future generations.” 

And Rossington’s legacy will be celebrated in June when Encore airs a November 2022 Lynyrd Skynyrd concert filmed at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, which was Rossington’s final public performance with the band. The concert film will air in movie theaters before airing on PBS in August.

Madonna is paying tribute to record exec Seymour Stein, who passed away Sunday at the age of 80. 

“Seymour Stein Has Left Us! I need to catch my breath,” she writes. “He Was one of the most influential Men in my Life!! He changed and Shaped my world. I must Explain.”

Stein signed Madonna to Sire Records in 1981. In her tribute she recounts the story of auditioning for him when he was in the hospital for a heart ailment.

“When I met him he was laying in a hospital bed wearing his boxer shorts and a wife beater!” she writes. “He had a cannula up his nose and a saline Drip in his arm! He was grinning like the Cheshire Cat.” She explains that she had her boombox with her to play him some of her music, noting, “He smiled and laughed when he saw me and asked me if I was related to the Virgin Mary!! … I knew we would hit it off.” 

Madonna played him some music and he signed her that day.

“This moment changed the course of my Life Forever. And was the beginning of my journey as a Musical Artist,” she says. “Not only did Seymour hear me but he Saw me and my Potential! For this I will be eternally grateful!”

“Anyone who knew Seymour knew about his passion for music and his impeccable taste,” Madonna concludes. “He had an Ear like no other! He was Intense -Wickedly Funny-a little bit Crazy And Deeply intuitive. Dearest Seymour you will never be forgotten!!”

Def Leppard’s Vivian Campbell is sharing his admiration for the late Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott.

While appearing on BBC’s The Rock Show with Johnnie Walker, Campbell was asked to pick his “Rock God,” and made the case for Lynott.

“Phil was an absolute rock star. When Phil walked into the room, everyone noticed and he held everyone’s attention,” he explained. “It was such an inspiration to me and to my musician friends.” 

Vivian added, “Growing up in Ireland, in Belfast in the ’70s, it wasn’t a fun place. But to witness this band Thin Lizzy get this international success, to be on shows like ‘Top Of The Pops,’ but yet they were the cool rock band when everyone else was doing disco music.”

Vivian says he met Lynott “so many times,” especially around Dublin, where Lynott would get onstage with Campbell’s teen band, Sweet Savage, to play Thin Lizzy tunes.

Campbell notes, “It really kind of helped us to look up to this man and to this band and to say, you know, it’s possible to move beyond what it is that we see around us in our daily lives and to dream big.”

Elton John has been busy with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour for years now, but he found some time to write another musical — and it’s a winner.

Tammy Faye, a stage musical based on the life of the late televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, is currently running in London. Elton wrote the music for the show, which just won several honors at the Olivier Awards, the U.K. equivalent of the Tony Awards.

The show’s star, Katie Brayben, was named Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Bakker, while actor Zubin Varla was named Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his role as fellow real-life televangelist Jerry Falwell.

Elton acknowledged the win on Instagram, calling Brayben’s work brilliant and adding that all his collaborators on the musical are “an incredible team I’m so grateful to work with.”

Tammy Faye has been welcomed with more acclaim than Elton’s other recent musical, The Devil Wears Prada, which was panned when it opened in Chicago last year. Elton later said he felt the show needed another year to find its footing.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band brought their tour to New York’s Madison Square Garden this weekend and treated fans to a very special performance.

For the first time on this trek, Bruce and the band performed the Born to Run epic “Jungleland.” According to the Asbury Park Press, before launching into the song The Boss told the crowd, “We got something special for New York City.” 

And it turns out some famous faces got to enjoy that tour debut, with Paul McCartney among the A-listers spotted in the audience.

Springsteen’s MSG show was the first of five shows in the New York/New Jersey area over the next two weeks. On Monday, April 3, he’s set to play Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, followed by two shows at Long Island’s UBS Arena April 9 and 11. He then wraps this leg of the tour on April 14 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

REO Speedwagon is set to play two very special shows in Las Vegas this fall. An Evening of Hi Infidelity … and More will see the band performing their classic album Hi Infidelity in its entirety, along with a set featuring other hit songs.

The shows are happening Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11, at the Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, with tickets set to go on sale Friday, April 7, at 10 a.m. local time.

“The Venetian is an intimate theater, and Hi Infidelity is an intimate album,” frontman Kevin Cronin shares. “We bared our souls in these songs, so it will be emotional for us to play the whole album for the first time and tell its story. Then we get to blow the lid off the joint with the hit-filled second set.” 

Released in November 1980, Hi Infidelity peaked at number one on the Billboard Album chart, and featured the hit songs “Take It On The Run” and “Keep on Loving You.” It was the biggest selling album of 1981 and was certified 10-times platinum by the RIAA.
