Chrissie Hynde wants fans to know that when she doesn’t stop to say hi to them, it’s nothing personal.

The Pretenders frontwoman shared a post on Facebook following the end of their current run of shows, which included opening for Guns N’ Roses and Pretenders club dates. In it, she explained why she’s stopped chatting with fans.

“I want to apologize for not stopping to say hello outside the venues. I used to, but certain individuals have made it too much brain damage to deal with,” she writes. “It’s not you lovely fans – it’s the guys with stacks of albums and guitars they want signed. (Personally , I appreciate a good scam, but c’mon! How cheap),” adding, “You would not believe how entitled some people think they are. Aggressive? Don’t get me started.”

Hynde also says she doesn’t like “being recognized or approached in public.”

“Why? Because I like doing ordinary things like walking around on my own on the street, or shopping, or going to museums and whatnot. Exploring cities,” she explains. “That’s why I do this, the music is a byproduct of wanting to see the world.”

She adds, “So I would like to say to those that make it a problem, ”Go f*** yourselves – and do it today’! (Thank you Robert Crumb for coining that excellent phrase ).”

Next up for Pretenders, they’re set to release their new album Relentless on Friday, September 15. They also have more concert dates on their schedule, with the next U.S. show happening October 1 at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California. A complete list of dates can be found at thepretenders.com

Madonna is giving props to Pepsi for finally airing her 1989 Pepsi commercial, which they pulled following her controversial video for “Like A Prayer.”

The commercial finally aired during the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday, September 12. In a post on Instagram, she thanked the soft drink company for “finally realizing the genius of our collaboration.”

“34 years ago I made a commercial with Pepsi to celebrate the release of my song Like a Prayer,” she explains in the post. “The commercial was immediately canceled when I refused to change any scenes in the video where I was kissing a black saint or burning crosses,” noting, “So began my illustrious career as an artist refusing to compromise my artistic integrity.”

The ad that premiered during the VMAs ends with the line “celebrating 40 years of disrupting the status quo.” Madonna added in her post, “Artists are here to disturb the peace.”

Madonna’s Pepsi ad premiered in 1989 with “Like A Prayer,” the title track from her fourth studio album featured prominently in the clip. It was quickly pulled after religious groups protested the song’s controversial video, which featured religious symbols like stigmata and burning crosses.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Elton John‘s musical version of The Devil Wears Prada, which was savaged by critics when it ran last year in Chicago, is opening on London’s West End next year.

According to Playbill, this production of the musical will have a new director and a “totally new creative team.” The music is still written by Elton, with lyrics by Shaina Taub, but the West End Theatre website reports that this show will be a “brand-new reimagined production” that has been “substantially reworked.”

The show is, of course, based on the 2003 book by Lauren Weisberger, which spawned the hit 2006 movie of the same name starring Meryl Streep as the imperious fashion editor Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway as her hapless assistant Andy.

The show will get a preview in Plymouth, England, in July of 2024 before it opens at the West End’s Dominion Theatre in October of 2024.

Variety dinged the Chicago production for its “sincere and fairly dull songs” and “overly respectful and frankly miscalculated approach to its source materials.”

Modern English is back with new music. The British pop band, best known for their ’80s hit “I Melt With You,” just released the new single “Long In the Tooth,” from their upcoming album, 1 2 3 4

In a post on Instagram, the band describes the track as a “guitar driven, post-punk ripper that will take you back to an earlier era of the band while giving you a glimpse of things to come.”

“Modern English and its journey, both musical and personal, has spread over 40+ years, and ‘Long in the Tooth’ is a song about this part of that journey,” singer Robbie Grey shares. “As we have reached out into the world and all its changes over all those years, it’s a meditation of getting older in a world that still spins in a chaotic and always interesting way.”

So far the band has not revealed when 1 2 3 4 is being released.

Modern English is currently on a North American tour, which hits Hamden, Connecticut, on Friday, September 15. A complete list of dates can be found at modernenglish.me.
