Journey’s Jonathan Cain has revealed that the band is working on some new music, but whether it will be part of a new album is still undecided.

The revelation came as Cain was talking about the band’s fall U.K. tour with Classic Rock and whether they plan to put any songs from their most recent album, 2022’s Freedom, in the set list.

“Right now we’re only playing one [‘Let It Rain’], but we are working on a new, new song, and if we can get that up to speed we may be playing that one too,” he said. “We’ll see.”

He added the tune is “brand new, right out of the box,” noting, “If it gets accepted then who knows… it might be a single.”

“It’s called ‘This Town.’ It’s about the fans. That fifty-year relationship we’ve had with them,” he shares. “We wrote it about their loyalty. The hook is: ‘Tonight, it’s all about this town.’”

As for whether there is a new album in Journey’s future, Cain says, “I don’t know yet. It’s so tough out there.”

Meanwhile, Cain also says the band’s biggest hit “Don’t Stop Believin’” has some celebrity fans, noting the most surprising of which was Bruce Springsteen.

“There was a charity gala, and Bruce, Elton John and Lady Gaga sang it on stage somewhere,” he says. “It’s out there on the net somewhere, you can check it out.”

Journey is currently on tour with Def Leppard, with the next show happening Tuesday in Philadelphia. Their U.K. tour kicks off Oct. 30 in Cardiff. A complete list of dates can be found at journeymusic.com.

The Police’s Stewart Copeland & Andy Summers on ‘Synchronicity’, chance of band reunion

The Police are set to reissue their multi-Platinum album Synchronicity on Friday for its 40th anniversary, and it turns out The Beatles‘ docuseries Get Back played a role in them deciding to revisit the album.

In an interview with MOJO, drummer Stewart Copeland said the doc “changed everything for many groups across the land.”

Copeland explained, “[U]p until that point, we had this policy, which was the only version that shall ever see the light of day is the finished product. Then we saw The Beatles in their underpants. And the realization dawned that it actually increases the interest in the song to see it in its underpants under development.”

To show that, the deluxe edition of the release contains 55 previously unreleased tracks, made up of alternate takes, instrumentals, demos and live recordings.

But the making of Synchronicity was far from easy, with tension running high between the band members.

“We were all three pieces of s*** in that room. We are not kindly individuals,” Copeland shared. “Andy and Sting are both wonderful human beings until they’re in The Police room. Then they turn into f****** a*******. The only worse a****** was probably me.”

Summers added, “I think any band worth anything has to have creative tension. Music can’t be made from a mellow state. It’s gotta be made with tension.”

The Police broke up after Synchronicity. The last time the three members of The Police played together was for a 2007-08 tour, and fans shouldn’t expect it to happen again.

When asked if there was any chance of a Police reunion, Copeland was pretty certain of the answer. “No,” he said. “There’s at least a 0000000000000000000000.1 per cent chance of it ever happening.”

Synchronicity (40th Anniversary Edition) is available for preorder now.

Madonna’s son David tells people not to worry, he’s not “starving”

One of Madonna‘s six children caused quite a stir by telling people during an Instagram Live that he didn’t have any food.

As People reports, David Banda, who recently moved out of his mother’s place, was asked during the IG Live how he liked living on his own. He clarified that he was sharing his place with his girlfriend, but then said, “It’s lovely to experience it being 9 o’clock at night, me being hungry and realizing that I don’t have enough money to get food, but we don’t have enough food in the house and scavenging. It’s fun.”

Considering his mother is a multimillionaire, David’s comments raised eyebrows — so much so that he had to take to his Instagram Story on Sunday to clarify his comments. He wrote, “TO ALL OF THOSE CONCERNED My mother is very supportive of me. She has always been supportive of me. I am very happy in my life and I am not living out on the streets, starving!”

“Please stop worrying everything is good,” he concluded.

David is one of four children Madonna adopted from Malawi; her daughters Mercy, Stella and Estere are also from that African country. Her oldest child, Lourdes, is from her relationship with trainer Carlos Leon; her son Rocco is from her marriage to director Guy Ritchie.

On This Day, July 22, 1977…

Elvis Costello launched his music career with the U.K. release of his debut album, My Aim Is True.

The album, produced by Nick Lowe, featured Costello backed by the San Francisco country rock band Clover, although contractual issues resulted in their name being left off the album.

Although the album did not contain any chart-topping singles, at least two tracks went on to be Costello classics, “Alison” and “(These Angels Want To Wear) My Red Shoes.”

After the release, Costello was nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy, although he lost to the R&B group A Taste of Honey

Costello is currently on tour with Daryl Hall. Their tour hits Gilford, New Hampshire, on Monday.

‘Rolling Stone’ picks the best and worst album covers of all time

Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/Ume

While most people buy an album for the music, some are drawn in by an album’s cover, and there are certainly some covers that have stood out more than the rest.

Rolling Stone has decided it’s time to highlight those standouts with its list of the 100 best album covers of all time, with plenty of classics making the grade.

While Joy Division’s 1979 album, Unknown Pleasures, tops the list, The Beatles are just behind them at #2 with Abbey Road. The mag calls the cover “the ultimate Beatles portrait: a sunny day in London, a crosswalk, the world’s four most confident young men walking in line.”

Abbey Road is one of three Beatles covers to make the list, with Sgt. Peppers’ Lonely Hearts Club Band at #14 and The White Album at #23.

Other iconic covers making the top 10 include Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon at #4, Patti Smith’s Horses at #6, The Clash’s London Calling at #8, Cyndi Lauper’s She’s So Unusual at #9 and Nirvana’s Nevermind at #10.

Also on the list are The Velvet Underground & Nico, Carole King’s Tapestry, The Who’s Who’s Next, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and The Rolling StonesSticky Fingers.

So, if these are some of the best, what are the worst? Rolling Stone has some opinions on that, too. Landing on top of the 50 Worst Album Covers of All Time list is Limp Bizkit’s Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, with Roger Daltrey’s Ride a Rock Horse, with a picture of Daltrey as a centaur, in at #2.

Other bad covers include Crosby, Stills & Nash’s Live It Up, Three Dog Night’s Hard Labor, Van Halen’s Balance, Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet and Billy Joel’s River of Dreams, with The Beatles also recognized for Revolver at #37.

Bob Dylan criticized by Blur’s Damon Albarn for phone-free concerts

Bob Dylan recently announced a U.K./European leg to his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour and Blur frontman Damon Albarn has some issues with it.

Seems Dylan requires all concert attendees to lock up their phones in a Yondr pouch that can only be opened when they leave the building — and Albarn doesn’t think it’s right.

“If you start banning things where does it end? I think you’ve just got to turn up and do your thing,” Albarn told BBC Breakfast. “People won’t want to be on their phone if you’re engaging with them correctly.”

Music fans recording and taking pictures on their phones is pretty commonplace at live shows these days and Dylan isn’t the only artist who has required fans to be phone free. The White StripesJack White and comedian Dave Chappelle have also used Yondr pouches at their live shows.

The European/U.K. Rough and Rowdy Ways tour kicks off with a three-night stand in Prague Oct. 4-6 and wraps with a three-night stand at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall Nov. 12-14. Tickets are on sale now.
