Fleetwood Mac‘s Lindsey Buckingham is sharing his thoughts on the video for Charli XCX’s single “Von dutch.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and his daughter Leelee recently launched a new YouTube series called Lindsey + Leelee React, in which they share their commentary on music videos. Charli’s video, set in an airport, is the subject of Wednesday’s clip.

Right off the bat, Lindsay admits he’s “not that familiar” with the pop star. He says he did see her on Saturday Night Live, adding, “I hear good things.”

Before watching the video, Leelee asks her dad, “Did you have a brat summer?” Lindsey replies, “The brattiest.”

Watching the clip, Lindsey seems a little uncomfortable as Charli bleeds on and spits at the camera lens, and seems surprised she “got away” with walking on the wing of an airplane, but in the end liked the video.

“I thought it was very entertaining,” he says. “I mean, there was so much going on and all in the context of a normally restrictive environment … that set the whole thing off very well, I thought.”

As for what Charli was trying to say with the clip, Lindsey notes, “She’s saying ‘screw you.'”

Lindsey and Leelee launched their React series in April, with the first episode dedicated to the video for Lindsey’s 1984 track “Slow Dancing.”

Former Journey frontman Steve Perry has teamed with legendary country crooner Willie Nelson for a new version of the Journey power ballad “Faithfully.”

The reimagined take on the song is being released in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Farm Aid, for which Nelson is a board member. All proceeds from the song will be donated to the organization.

“No one has a voice or vocal phrasing anything like Willie Nelson. Singing this duet with Willie has been something I’ve always wanted to do,” Perry shares. “After recording ‘Faithfully’ with Journey, I always felt it would be a great song for Willie too. What a wonderful experience it was to finally sing with Willie. I’m so proud of what we have accomplished together.”

Willie adds, “Working with Steve Perry on ‘Faithfully’ was a meaningful experience. It was a pleasure to collaborate on this song.” He notes, “I’m proud that we could create something meaningful and use it to give back through Farm Aid.”

“Faithfully” is now available via digital outlets.

Released in 1983, “Faithfully” appeared on Journey’s eighth studio album, Frontiers, and was a top-20 hit for the band, peaking at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 1988, Céline Dion won the Eurovision Song Contest, representing Switzerland and singing her song “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi,” which means “Don’t Leave Without Me.” And because this year’s contest is also being held in Switzerland, Céline sent along a special video message for the event.

According to the BBC, there had been rumors that Céline would appear in person at the event, but in her message, she said, “I’d love nothing more than to be with you in Basel right now.” The Canadian icon’s public appearances have been limited amid her battle with stiff-person syndrome.

“Switzerland will forever hold a special place in my heart. It’s the country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something so extraordinary,” she continued. “Winning the Eurovision song contest for Switzerland in 1988 was a life-changing moment for me and I’m so thankful for everyone who supported me.”

“Now, 37 years later,” she continued, pausing to laugh at how long it’s been, “it’s so beautiful and emotional to see Switzerland winning and hosting this incredible event once again.”

“To the people of Switzerland, thank you for your love,” she said. “This night is yours and I hope you feel as proud as I do.”

Two years after her win, Céline released Unison, her first English-language album, featuring the hit “Where Does My Heart Beat Now.”

Bruce Springsteen is going country for the latest preview of his upcoming box set, Tracks II: The Lost Albums.

The Boss just released the new song “Repo Man,” from the Tracks II album Somewhere North of Nashville, which, according to a press release, was “inspired by the sounds of honky tonk, rockabilly and uptempo country.”

Songs on the album were recorded in the summer of 1995, at the same time Springsteen was recording his solo album The Ghost of Tom Joad. The box set contains two songs that were originally supposed to be on Tom Joad, “Stand On It” and “Janey Don’t Lose Your Heart.”

“What happened was I wrote all these country songs at the same time I wrote The Ghost of Tom Joad. Those sessions completely overlap each other,” Springsteen shares. “‘Streets of Philadelphia’ got me connected to my socially conscious or topical songwriting,” he adds, referring to his 1994 Oscar-winning song from the movie Philadelphia. “So that’s where The Ghost of Tom Joad came from. But at the same time I had this country streak that was also running through those sessions and I ended up making a country record on the side.”

“Repo Man” is available now via digital outlets.

Tracks II: The Lost Albums is dropping June 27 and is available for preorder now. It features seven previously unheard Springsteen records, featuring 83 songs, all of which were originally recorded between 1983 and 2018. Of those songs, 82 have never been released before and 74 have never been heard before.

Next up for Springsteen, he and The E Street Band return to the road Wednesday, launching their Land of Hope and Dreams tour of the U.K. and Europe in Manchester. A complete list of dates can be found at BruceSpringsteen.net.

Elton John is being giving an Icon Award — but not for his music

Elton John has won many awards in his career, but his latest honor has nothing to do with his music, his musicals or his charity work — it has to do with his candles.

QVC is giving Elton its first-ever Icon Award to recognize Elton’s “exceptional impact on the world of home fragrance” through his collaboration with the candle company Slatkin + Co.

The award is designed to honor “trailblazers whose vision and talent have transformed product experiences.”  Elton’s candle collection with Slatkin + Co. has been a big seller on QVC. The company’s founder, Harry Slatkin, pointed to the April launch of their second collection for QVC, during which 350,000 candles — some of which cost over $100 — were sold.

A QVC exec said in a statement, “Elton John’s unique ability to connect with our customers and bring his creative vision to life through our platform has resulted in the kind of success that is as remarkable as he is.”

Elton said in a statement, “This is a fantastic honor. I usually receive awards for my music; so, this is genuinely a first for me. It was such a pleasure putting this collection together and creating such sensational scents for everyone to enjoy.”

A portion of the proceeds from the candle collections go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The Who’s Roger Daltrey and The Beach BoysBrian Wilson have collaborated with The Miraculous Love Kids, a nonprofit that provided music lessons to girls and young women in Afghanistan, to release a new cover of Wilson’s solo track “Love & Mercy.”

“‘Love & Mercy’ is one of Brian’s most poignant musical statements about the human condition,” MLKs founder and director Lanny Cordola says. “The melding of Brian, Roger, and the girls is a sound divine. An honor of the highest magnitude and a dream come true for the girls and I. These are world-class musicians with world-class souls.”

“You don’t have to thank me for doing this,” Roger shares in a statement to The Miraculous Love Kids. “I’m really passionate about how you are being treated. You are the future of your country. Please make it better. You really can. And music will play a big part in that … you’ll see.”

The Miraculous Love Kids previously recorded a version of “Love & Mercy” back in 2018, which was actually the first song and video they recorded.

James Taylor and E Street Band member Patti Scialfa are among the artists set to perform at a Nashville concert celebrating legendary singer Linda Ronstadt.

Country star Trisha Yearwood is putting on the event, which will take place July 22 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s CMA Theater. It will also feature special guests Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell.

“Linda Ronstadt is a big reason I wanted to be a singer,” Trisha says. “I was 10 years old when I discovered her music, and her big voice drew me in.”

“She combined the country music that my parents listened to … like Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline … but it had an edge to it that I loved. Through Ronstadt, I discovered Emmylou Harris, the Eagles, Jackson Browne, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons and many more,” she continues. “I’m honored to be a part of celebrating Linda and this incredible era of music that is such an important part of the history of country music.”

Tickets to the show, titled Trisha Yearwood and Friends Celebrate Linda Ronstadt and Los Angeles Country-Rock, go on sale Friday, May 16.

Daryl Hall rejects ‘yacht rock’ label: ‘I never understood it’

While his former bandmate John Oates has credited the rise of yacht rock with helping popularize their music, Daryl Hall seems to loathe the label.

When the topic of yacht rock is raised on the Broken Record podcast, Hall says, “This is something I don’t understand. First of all, yacht rock was a f****** joke by two jerk-offs in California and suddenly it became a genre. I don’t even understand it. I never understood it.”

Hall was referring to the fact that Yacht Rock originated as the name of a mockumentary web series created by J.D. Ryznar and Hunter D. Stair. Debuting in 2005, the series featured comedic portrayals of artists like Daryl Hall & John Oates, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross and The Eagles.

“It’s just R&B with maybe some jazz in there,” Hall notes on the podcast. “It’s mellow R&B. It’s smooth R&B. I don’t see what the yacht part is.”

Hall also points out that he and Oates first enjoyed success on R&B radio before crossing over to pop, and their cross-genre sound confused the music industry.

“People misjudged us because they couldn’t label us,” he says. “They always came up with all this kind of crap, soft rock and yacht rock and all this other nonsense. And none of it, none of it really describes anything that I do, really. It doesn’t describe anything anybody does.”

For his part, McDonald, the artist who’s probably most associated with yacht rock, said in 2008 that he found the web series “hilarious.”

KISS fan who paid over $12,000 to be Gene Simmons’ roadie says it was ‘absolutely’ worth it

KISS fan who paid over $12,000 to be Gene Simmons’ roadie says it was ‘absolutely’ worth it

Back in March, KISS‘ Gene Simmons offered fans the chance to be his roadie for the day — for $12,495. Although some folks thought that price was a bit outrageous, the guy who shelled out the money has no regrets.

“This is what I chose to spend my money on,” retired corrections officer Dwayne Rosado, who purchased the package, tells The New York Times.

Rosado got to be Simmons’ roadie for a May show at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, New Jersey. Rosado, who’s been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, bought the VIP package as a gift for himself and his 13-year-old son, Zach, who is also a KISS fan.

“You only live once, and I want to experience life,” Rosado shares. “I’m not going to die with a lot of money. I’m going to die happy.”

The package allowed Rosado and his son to become members of the Gene Simmons Band crew for the entire day. They also got to hang out with Simmons in his dressing room and were introduced to the crowd by the rocker.

“It felt awkward, because I have a whole crowd in front of me, and all I wanted to do is hug him,” Rosado says. “I didn’t care about anything else that was going on.”

Rosado says the $12,495 price tag was “absolutely” worth it.

“Nothing can beat tonight,” he adds. “It’s cemented in Kisstory now, because it’s going to be on YouTube and everything else. So I’ll get to look back and see that moment forever.”
