The Kinks are continuing the celebration of their 60th anniversary. After releasing two anniversary compilations, The Journey – Part 1 and The Journey – Part 2 in 2023, they are now set to drop the final release in the series, The Journey – Part 3, in July.

The new installment will follow the band’s career with RCA/Arista from 1977 to 1984, which was a breakthrough for The Kinks in America.

The two-disc compilation features songs handpicked by Ray Davies and Dave Davies, including a disc of 11 remastered tracks like “Come Dancing,” the band’s highest-charting single in the U.S., “Destroyer” and “Living On A Thin Line.” The second disc features a never-before-released live concert from the band’s archives, a recording of their show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on July 11, 1993.

“As far as performances go, it was a high point achievement of The Kinks,” Dave says of the show.

As a preview of the compilation, the band has released two tracks: the 2025 remaster of “Destroyer” and the Royal Albert Hall performance of “I’m Not Like Everybody Else.” Both are available now via digital outlets.

The Journey – Part 3 will be released July 11 as a two-CD or two-LP set, with track-by-track commentary from the Davies brothers. There will also be digital and HD digital versions of the compilation. All formats are available for preorder now.

The Kinks started their 60th anniversary celebration with the release of The Journey – Part 1 in March 2023 and followed that with The Journey – Part 2 in November 2023.

After debuting at #1 on the U.K. Albums chart, the soundtrack to Pink Floyd’s rereleased concert movie Pink Floyd at Pompeii: MCMLXXII has landed on the U.S. charts as well.

The soundtrack was the first full-length live recording of the concert. According to Billboard, it has debuted at #3 on the Top Album Sales chart, moving over 20,000 copies, the biggest sales week for Pink Floyd in over a decade.

The album also landed in the top 10 on several other charts, including the Vinyl Albums chart, where it’s at #2 after selling 12,500 vinyl copies. It also lands at #2 on the Top Rock Albums chart, #3 on the Top Rock Alternate Albums chart and at #1 on the Indie Store Albums Sales chart.

As for the all-genre Billboard 200, the album is at #28, making it the 15th top-40 album of Pink Floyd’s career and the 30th to land on the Billboard 200.

Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII is a film of the band’s October 1971 performance at the ancient Roman amphitheater in Italy, which was the first live concert ever to take place at the site. A remastered version of the movie was released in theaters in April.

R.E.M. has contributed a signed guitar to a new Sweet Relief Music Fund auction to benefit Music’s Mental Health Fund, which provides financial aid to those in the music industry in need of mental health services.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have offered up a black Rickenbacker 360 Thinline for the auction, signed by all four members of the band – Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck and Bill Berry. It is estimated to sell for $2,000.

Other items in the auction include an autographed copy of Nickelback’s Live From Nashville album, and two friends and family tickets to a Coldplay Music of the Spheres show, plus a signed drum skin played during the tour.

Barbra Streisand will share another track from her all-star duets album on Friday.

It’s a duet version of Paul McCartney‘s song “My Valentine,” and Streisand teased the release by posting a photo of herself in the studio with Sir Paul.

“What a joy it was to record ‘My Valentine’ with @paulmccartney,” she wrote. “To share time with him in the studio was truly special!”

As previously reported, The Secret Of Life: Partners, Volume 2, is due out June 27. Streisand sings with artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Hozier, James Taylor, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, Sting, Seal, Sam Smith and country superstar Tim McGraw. The album takes its title from “Secret O’Life,” the 1977 Taylor song that she and Taylor duet on.

“My Valentine” will be the second track released from the album, following “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” which Streisand sings with Hozier.

The Doobie Brothers are offering up another preview of their upcoming album, Walk This Road.

The latest is the track “Angels & Mercy,” written by Pat Simmons.

“It’s fast and loud, maybe the most rocking thing on the album,” Simmons shares. “It’s an intense song that was a lot of fun to record as well as just coming up with the parts. It’s something that we can play live and have fun with it.”

“Angels & Mercy” is available now via digital outlets.

Walk This Road, dropping June 6, will be the first new release from The Doobie Brothers since 2021’s Liberté and their first full album of original material with Michael McDonald since 1980’s One Step Closer.

It is available for preorder now.

The Doobie Brothers will launch a new tour in support of the album this summer. The Walk This Road tour, featuring special guests The Coral Reefer Band, the late Jimmy Buffett’s backing band, kicks off Aug. 4 in Detroit. Tour dates can be found at TheDoobieBrothers.com.

On This Day, May 15, 1965 …

Bob Dylan scored his first top-40 hit when “Subterranean Homesick Blues” peaked at #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The tune was the lead-off single to Dylan’s fifth studio album, Bring It All Back Home, which featured future Dylan classics “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Maggie’s Farm” and “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue.”

It didn’t take long for Dylan to best that chart appearance, however. By September of that year he had a #2 hit with “Like A Rolling Stone.”

Gregg Allman was known for being a great live performer, and now one of those performances is being released as a live album.

Gregg Allman Band – One Night In DC, May 15, 1984 will be released June 20, featuring a full-length concert recorded live at The Bayou in Washington, D.C., in front of just 900 fans. The concert is the latest release to come from the late rocker’s personal archives.

The 12-track album features performances of Allman Brothers Band classics like “Midnight Rider,” “Trouble No More,” “Melissa” and “Statesboro Blues.” The first preview of the album is a live performance of ABB’s “Dreams,” which is out now via digital outlets.

James Taylor had some Royal fans at his recent tour stop in Santa Barbara.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer shared photos on Instagram of him hanging with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, captioning the post, “A backstage visit with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

In one shot Taylor appears to be signing two copies of his 2018 children’s pop-up book, Sweet Baby James, for Markle.

Markle also posted photos from the concert, with the caption, “In my concert era, Thanks James.”

Taylor played shows at the Santa Barbara Bowl on Tuesday and Wednesday, treating his fans to such classic tunes as “Carolina on My Mind,” “You Got A Friend,” “Sweet Baby James” and “Fire and Rain.”

The Doors‘ first official book, Night Divides The Day: The Doors Anthology, is in bookstores now, and Doors guitarist Robby Krieger is happy with the final product.

The book, described as the “most definitive book yet” on the band, features new interviews with surviving members Krieger and John Densmore, and archival contributions from the late Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek. 

“It really shows you a lot of the hidden Doors stuff that a lot of people don’t know about,” Krieger tells Billboard. “Just seeing the old pictures — a lot of pictures I’ve never seen, which is pretty cool.”

“And reading a lot of interviews, stuff that I’ve forgotten all about. … To go back in time and read the original stuff that you might have forgotten about or had the wrong idea of, it is nice to have everything in one (book) like this,” he adds. “I think it’s really done well.”

The book release comes as The Doors are in the midst of celebrating their 60th anniversary, and Krieger is thrilled by the band’s lasting legacy.

“It’s amazing,” he says. “Even 20 years ago, the 40th anniversary, I was telling people I couldn’t imagine this happening. The only ones that have beaten us are The Stones and The Beatles, pretty much.”

“There’s plenty of groups out there who were formed around the same time as we did, and they don’t have the (continuing) interest that we do,” he says. “It’s definitely (because of) the songs, the words and the music. It was just an amazing combination of people, the four of us, who came together, and it probably happens once every 60 years. We don’t take it for granted.”

Bruce Springsteen kicked off his Land of Hope and Dreams tour in Manchester, England, on Wednesday, and had some choice words for President Donald Trump and his administration.

“The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock ‘n’ roll in dangerous times,” he told the crowd, as seen in fan-shot video posted to social media. “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.”

He added, “Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to rise with us, raise your voices against the authoritarianism and let freedom ring.”

He then kicked off the show with the song the tour is named after, Wrecking Ball’s “Land of Hope and Dreams.”

In another video, Springsteen once again railed against the administration’s actions, telling the audience there’s “very weird, strange and dangerous s*** going on out there right now.” He said that people in America are being persecuted for using their right to free speech and that historic civil rights legislation is being rolled back. Springsteen added, “This is happening now.”

According to setlist.com, the main set featured the live debut of “Rainmaker,” which appears on his upcoming box set, Tracks II: The Lost Albums. He also performed “Murder Incorporated” for the first time since 2017.

Springsteen and The E Street Band play a second show in Manchester on Saturday.
