After decades in the business, logging roles in productions as varied as the still-acclaimed X-Men 2 to HBO’s awards magnet Succession, to voicing over McDonald’s spots, Scottish actor Brian Cox is spilling the tea.

In his new memoir, Putting the Rabbit in the Hat, which GQ has excerpted, the Emmy-winning actor reveals some of his favorite working experiences, and those he turned down.

Cox calls his “incredible” 25th Hour boss Spike Lee “simply one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with,” who has a “knowledge of the cinema…second to none.” Lee is also “diplomatic,” Cox explains, as Spike “firmly” dealt with unwanted input from co-star Ed Norton, who Cox calls “a nice lad and a bit of a pain in the arse because he fancies himself as a writer-director.”

Cox dishes on why he didn’t take a role of Robert Baratheon in HBO’s Game of Thrones, explaining, the money “wasn’t all that great.”

The actor adds, “I can’t tell you whether or not he was an important character, and I’m not going to Google it just in case he was, because I turned it down.”

Slyly, he then adds of the one-season role, “…I passed on it, and Mark Addy was gored by the boar instead. (I lied. I did google it.)”

When it comes to another near-miss, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Cox says it “would have been a money-spinner,” but jabbed that the films are the “‘Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow’ show.”

He calls Depp “so overrated.”

Cox says, “I mean, Edward Scissorhands. Let’s face it, if you come on [set] with hands like that and pale, scarred-face make-up, you don’t have to do anything. And he didn’t. And subsequently, he’s done even less.”

Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios dropped the first trailer for its Disney+ series Moon Knight during the Rams-Cardinals wild card game on ESPN and ABC on Monday.

The series stars Oscar Issac as Steven Grant — a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who suffers blackouts and memories of another life. After discovering he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector, they must navigate their complex identities as they’re thrust into a deadly mystery involving the powerful gods of Egypt.

“I can’t tell the difference between my waking life and dreams,” says Oscar Issac — sporting a legit British accent — as Steven Grant toward the top of the trailer, set to Kid Cudi‘s “Day ‘n’ Night,”.

Grant becomes increasingly disconnected from reality, until we hear Ethan Hawke’s villainous cult leader encourage Steven/Marc to “embrace the chaos,” at which point he transforms into the titular superhero.

Moon Knight premiers March 30 on Disney+.

We know how he met their mother, now it’s time to go on the journey of how she met their father.

The highly anticipated new Hulu sitcom How I Met Your Father debuts today, but star and producer Hilary Duff warns How I Met Your Mother fans that while there’s lots of good stuff for fans of the original, it’s not a reboot.

Duff, who admits she didn’t watch HIMYM the first time around, tells ABC Audio, “We see what some of the fans that are so diehard about the original, say. And we’re like, cool, cool, like, maybe we’re not going to be your cup.”

Elizabeth Berger created How I Met Your Father with Isaac Aptaker and says she’s excited for people to see to see it, but also a little nervous.

“Obviously when something has a built in, loyal fan base and so many people that are very invested on how you take it on and what you do with it, of course there is a pressure [but] we were also extremely excited,” she says. “It’s a show that we were fans of…Isaac and I went to college in New York City and we’re roommates and we identify with these stories really strongly.”

That said, Berger also thinks HIMYM, and other network sitcoms of the like, need to get with the times.

“I think the way groups of friends look have changed over the years, that it was very important to us to sort of have that kind of representation and have different points of views on the show, bring people together that don’t all have the same experience,” she says, explaining that, “it makes for more interesting life and it makes for more interesting television.”

(SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME) By now, most know that Andrew Garfield lied to a whole bunch of people about his participation in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But he’s just revealed he lied to none other than his Amazing Spider-Man co-star — and ex-girlfriend — Emma Stone

On the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Garfield admitted it, laughing, “Emma kept on texting me and she was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about!'”

“She was like, ‘Shut up, just tell me,'” he laughed. “And like, I honestly… I kept it going, even with her, it’s hilarious. And then she saw it and she was like, ‘You’re a jerk!'”

Garfield, a lifelong Spider-Man fan before he got to play him in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, had said of the secrecy, “It was such a lovely feeling to have a surprise party planned for everyone!”

The tick, tick…Boom star added, “I can’t avoid the fact that it had always been my fantasy to play that part inside the MCU…”

Garfield also reveals he was the one who came up with the No Way Home scene in which all three Spider-Men point at each other — imitating a popular meme.

Garfield said he felt the love that No Way Home fans showered on him, calling it “healing” after the poor reception to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

“You feel seen, and appreciated…I’m really humbled, man!”

And yes, Garfield says he’d “be open” to playing Spidey again.

Joss Whedon breaks silence on sexism and bullying, calls ‘Justice League’ accuser Ray Fisher “a bad actor”

A lengthy feature piece published Monday in New York magazine tracks the meteoric rise, and public fall, of Joss Whedon, who created the TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, and directed blockbusters including Avengers and its sequel Age of Ultron

As previously reported, Whedon had been accused of bullying behavior on the sets of his former shows. His reshoots of Justice League, following the death by suicide of director Zack Snyder‘s daughter, resulted in a box office failure, and later, more accusations were leveled against Whedon.

Co-star Gal Gadot had accused Whedon of threatening her career and her life. To New York, he claimed his argument with the Israeli actress was lost in translation. “English is not her first language, and I tend to be annoyingly flowery in my speech,” he insisted.

“I understood perfectly,” Gadot replied to that comment.

Actor Ray Fisher played Cyborg in Justice League, and he blamed racism for his role being cut down significantly. Fisher had called Whedon’s behavior “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.”

To New York, Whedon said the Cyborg character was cut because test audiences hated it, and that the role — restored in the so-called Snyder Cut — “made no sense.”

He added that Fisher was a “malevolent force,” jumping on the bandwagon in part to bolster support for the eventual release of the Snyder Cut: “We’re talking about a bad actor in both senses.”

Joss admitted to multiple affairs that led his wife, Kai Cole, to divorce him — and publicly out him as a hypocrite — but he also added he “felt powerless” not to sleep with some of the people working under him.

Whedon told New York he felt he was “made a target” by his ex-wife, and claimed that people, in turn, used “every weaponizable word of the modern era to make it seem like I was an abusive monster.” He added, “I think I’m one of the nicer showrunners that’s ever been.”

The one-time critical and geek-sphere darling, noted, “The beginning of the internet raised me up, and the modern internet pulled me down. The perfect symmetry is not lost on me.”
