June Squibb takes center stage in the new film Eleanor the Great.

The movie, which is Scarlett Johansson‘s directorial debut, follows a 94-year-old whose fib told during a time of immense grief takes on a dangerous life of its own.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Erin Kellyman co-star in the film, and they say it was wonderful to watch Squibb act every day on set.

“She was so brilliant to work with. It was really a lesson every day,” Kellyman said.

Ejiofor said while “everybody knows that she’s a terrific actress,” Squibb’s performance in Eleanor the Great “is really something special.”

“The range of emotions that she can take the audience on, from, you will be laughing with her — hysterically laughing, side splitting — and then you’re really emotional, and you’re with her at the next moment. It’s really incredible.”

While you’d be hard-pressed to find someone unfamiliar with Johansson as an actress, the Eleanor the Great cast has the distinct understanding of who she is as a director.

Ejiofor says Johansson was a great communicator and very charismatic on set.

“Those two things in combination just means that she’s able to really get people on board and is able to communicate her vision,” Ejiofor said, adding that Johansson’s vision was “quite complicated in its themes and some of the tonalities and some of the shifts in it. And she was really very specific about what she wanted from each moment and the kind of experience that she wanted the film to be.”

Ejiofor said it was helpful to be directed by someone who is also an actor themselves.

“You can’t slip anything past her because she sees it, but she can also really direct the action,” Ejiofor said. “It’s a rare skill.”

Eleanor the Great is now available to watch in theaters.

Why Glen Powell wants Taylor Swift to cameo in his new Hulu series

‘Chad Powers’ (Disney)

Any TV star would want Taylor Swift to make a cameo appearance on their show, but the stars of the new Hulu series Chad Powers think it would actually make sense for the superstar to pop up on their show.

Chad Powers stars Glen Powell as a college football star named Russ Holliday, who torpedoes his career after disgracing himself during a championship game. He then disguises himself as a completely different player named Chad Powers and joins another team, where he’s successful, but can’t reveal his secret identity.

The football theme of the show should make it attractive to Taylor, the stars argue. While speaking to Variety, co-star Perry Mattfeld joked, “We’ll make sure she sees the series and she’ll get it. I’m hoping because of Travis [Kelce], she’ll watch and then we’ll connect and talk offense.”

Powell added, “You already got me thinking about Season 2 cameos. T-Swift comin’ in hot.” We’ll see if it gets a second season: the first one premieres Sept. 30.

Rick Moranis has officially returned to acting as production has started on Spaceballs 2.

The actor has ended his live-action acting hiatus to be part of the cast of the upcoming sci-fi parody comedy film. Amazon MGM Studios made the full casting announcement for the sequel movie on Thursday.

Joining Moranis in the film’s cast are Josh GadKeke PalmerLewis PullmanAnthony CarriganGeorge WynerDaphne Zuniga and Bill Pullman. They will all act alongside the film’s previously announced star, Mel Brooks.

While Moranis, Zuniga, Bill Pullman, Brooks and Wyner will reprise the roles they originated in the 1987 cult-classic film, Gad, Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Carrigan join the project as brand-new characters whose identities are being kept under wraps.

Amazon MGM Studios also shared a photo of the Spaceballs 2 cast and crew at a table read. “Spaceballs The Table Read,” the company captioned the post.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar director Josh Greenbaum is helming the film from a script Gad co-wrote with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Details of its plot “are being kept under lock, key, and an industrial-strength Schwartz shield,” according to a press release.

While Moranis has voiced a few animated characters over the past couple decades, Spaceballs 2 marks his first live-action film role since 1997.

Brooks first announced the film was happening in a video message shared in June.

“After 40 years we asked, ‘What do the fans want?’ But, instead, we’re making this movie,” Brooks said in the announcement video. He signed off by saying, “May the Schwartz be with you!”

Spaceballs 2 is expected to arrive in theaters in 2027.

Mel Owens regrets the ageist comments he made on a podcast over the summer.

The 66-year-old star of ABC’S The Golden Bachelor apologized on the show’s premiere episode Wednesday night for comments he made in June about his preferred age range for the female contestants on his season.

At the time, Owens said he would be “cutting them” if they were over 60.

The comments, which Owens said on the In the Trenches podcast, were met with criticism by many.

“I messed up,” Owens said on Wednesday night’s episode. “I was wrong. I replay it in my head a lot. I have regrets and I’m sorry for all the things I said in the podcast.”

He continued, “I know what a lot of people are thinking about me, but that’s not who I am.”

On the show’s premiere episode, a handful of the women who stepped out of the limo to meet Owens for the first time questioned him right away about the comments he made.

Diane, 71, a librarian and hockey player from Wasilla, AK, asked him, “What the puck was that interview on that podcast?”

Owens apologized to her and asked for a second chance. She replied and said, “Stick with me, I’ll keep you out of the penalty box.”

Carla, 62, a former model from Los Angeles, said that she’s “here to break all of your stereotypes about women over 60.”

Owens gave the first impression rose to Gerri, 64, from Rockville, Maryland.

Owens said he was touched by the story she told about her family and a letter she shared with him from her daughter.

Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor airs Wednesdays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/PT and is available to stream the next day on Hulu.

‘The View’ co-hosts share what they love about Barbara Walters

During the show, Barbara told her television audience that she has reached agreement in principle to work for the American Broadcasting Company. Among her duties would be to co-anchor the evening news program. With a reported salary of $1 million a year for five years, the agreement would make her highest paid on camera news person in the television industry. (ABC News Studios)

A documentary all about Barbara Walters makes its network TV debut on Thursday.

The film, called Tell Me Everything, originally premiered on Hulu and Disney+. It broadcasts on ABC on Thursday in honor of the late journalist’s birthday. Walters famously created the popular talk show The View, and its hosts Whoopi GoldbergJoy Behar and Sara Haines spoke to ABC Audio about what they admire about her.

“Just that she really gave zero [cares] about what people thought of her. All the things they said about her … you know, ‘You’re not this, you’re not good enough,’ and she’s like, ‘OK,’ and went on and did what she wanted to do the way she wanted it to do it and created a space for lots of women in broadcasting. That hadn’t existed,” Goldberg said. “She makes me happy.”

Haines said the documentary taught her things about Walters she didn’t know.

“I knew the highlight moments, the ones you saw on TV and the clips I’d seen. I did not know the underbelly of just how fierce she was. And realizing only Barbara Walters could have ever been Barbara Walters,” Haines said. “It took a very unique person to pay the price and reap the amazing benefits of a life led that big.”

Behar shared that she misses Walters to this day and credits her with the decades she has spent on The View.

“I thank Barbara for my 29, or 27, years on this show. I got to stay in my hometown of New York City with a job every day for all these years. So thank you, Barbara, wherever you are. She and I had a friendship, a real friendship. I would have dinner at her house,” Behar said. “I miss her to this day, I really do.”

Emma Watson is opening up about her current relationship with Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling.

The actress shared her thoughts on Rowling’s anti-trans views while guesting on a recent episode of Jay Shetty‘s podcast On Purpose.

While Watson did not explicitly reference Rowling’s repeated rhetoric tied to the TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminists) movement — a group of people who believe transgender women are not women — she did comment on the situation, saying she is upset that a conversation with Rowling on the topic “was never made possible.”

“I just don’t want to say anything that continues to weaponize a really toxic debate and conversation, which is why I don’t comment or continue to comment — not because I don’t care about her or about the issue — but because the way that the conversation is being had feels really painful to me,” Watson said.

Watson also said she will always be grateful to Rowling for creating the character of Hermione Granger and that she thinks fondly of her time working with Rowling on the Harry Potter films.

“There is just no world in which I could ever cancel her out for — or cancel that out — for anything. It has to remain true — it is true,” Watson said.

The actress added, “I can love her, I can know she loved me, I can be grateful to her, I can know the things that she said are true, and there can be this whole other thing. My job feels like to just hold all of it, but the bigger thing is just what she’s done will never be taken away from me.”

Jessica Chastain is opening up about Apple TV+’s decision to postpone the debut of The Savant.

A spokesperson for Apple TV+ announced Tuesday that the thriller series’ debut would be postponed to a future date. It was supposed to premiere on Friday.

Chastain took to Instagram on Wednesday to share her thoughts on the series’ delay.

“I want to say how much I value my partnership with Apple. They’ve been incredible collaborators and I deeply respect their team. That said, I wanted to reach out and let you know that we’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant,” Chastain said.

The actress went on to detail the “unfortunate amount of violence in the United States” that has occurred “in the last five years since we’ve been making the show.”

“The kidnapping attempt on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer; the January 6th attack on the Capitol; the assassination attempts on President Trump; the political assassinations of Democratic representatives in Minnesota; the attack on Speaker Pelosi’s husband; the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk; the recent shooting at an ABC affiliate station in California; and over 300 school shootings across this country,” Chastain wrote. “These incidents, though far from encompassing the full range of violence witnessed in the United States, illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted.”

Chastain wrote she has “never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is. The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever.”

She ended her post by saying while she respects Apple’s decision to pause The Savant‘s release for now, she remains “hopeful the show will reach audiences soon.”

“Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when The Savant is released,” Chastain wrote.
