Clerks director Kevin Smith will soon become the first movie maker to release an entire movie exclusively via NFT, or non-fungible token.

The newest film by the director and Good Will Hunting producer, KillRoy Was Here, will only be made available to the person who buys the NFT.

For the forthcoming NFT sale, Smith collaborated with SCRT Labs’ Secret Network, which recently worked with Quentin Tarantino for the release of his successful Pulp Fiction NFT auctions.

The movie KillRoy is being called “a throwback anthology horror film featuring a creature that kills evil adults at the behest of victimized kids.”

The movie, along with exclusive content from the film, behind-the-scenes footage and a commentary track, will be launched as a 5,555-piece generative art NFT collection, according to the Secret Network.

The director adds, “When you buy the KillRoy NFT, you get exclusive access to the movie. But more importantly, the specific version of KillRoy you get is YOUR KillRoy to do with whatever you want: Make your own movie, turn it into a cartoon, license him for lunchboxes! We started the story, now YOU get to continue it with your very own version of our titular character!”

He calls it “an exciting and unique opportunity to go from art collector to collaborating artist!”

While many familiar films and TV shows are getting reboots and “follow-ups,” like Sex and the City‘s …And Just Like That, don’t expect the gang from the classic ’80s movie The Breakfast Club to try to catch lightning in a bottle again.

That’s at least according to co-star Ally Sheedy. “We wouldn’t do it. We wouldn’t do it,” the Single Drunk Female star insisted on the podcast Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef.

While her co-stars Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez are still working, it looks like we’ll never see what happened to their respective characters as they passed middle age.

Sheedy played Allison Reynolds, “the recluse”; Hall portrayed Brian Johnson, the nerd; Ringwald played the “popular girl” Claire Standish; Nelson was “the rebel” John Bender; and Estevez played “the jock” Andrew Clark. Weekend detention brought the schoolmates together physically and, as the movie progresses, emotionally, too.

With regards to a possible follow-up to the high school comedy from the late John Hughes, Sheedy explained, “It would feel like trying to recreate something that happened, no matter what the script would be. I just don’t…I don’t think it would happen,” she said, adding, “It would just feel too…ugh.”

COVID-19 has made itself an unwelcome guest in Matthew Broderick and wife Sarah Jessica Parker‘s Plaza Suite. The show went on Tuesday evening, minus Broderick, who had tested positive for the virus.

On the play’s Instagram account, it noted the Ferris Bueller star, 60, tested positive “despite strict adherence to COVID safety protocols.”

Parker, who tested negative, soldiered on without Broderick Tuesday night, while her husband’s understudy won rave reviews for some fans in attendance. “I was in the audience tonight and, wow,” one patron enthused. “Michael McGrath gave an outstanding performance with only a few hours notice. Bravo!”

Plaza Suite isn’t the only Broadway play missing its leading man: Macbeth recently canceled performances when star Daniel Craig tested positive for COVID-19, as did others within the company. The show is set to resume Monday, April 11.

FX

FX has renewed its hit series Snowfall for a sixth and final season, Nick Grad, President, Original Programming announced Tuesday.

“FX first partnered with legendary writer/director John Singleton and the rest of the creative team six years ago to pursue their vision for an ambitious, powerful drama about the explosion of the crack epidemic of the early 80s,” said Grad in a press release. “Today, as the fifth season of Snowfall reaches new heights of acclaim and viewership, there is no question that this series has become an FX classic drama. We are thrilled to order a sixth season that will enable Dave AndronWalter Mosley, and the rest of the producers to bring Snowfall to a climatic finale showcasing the brilliance of everyone involved, from the stellar cast led by Damson Idris, to the writers, directors, artists and crew.”

Idris, who plays drug kingpin Franklin Saint in the critically acclaimed drama expressed, “I’m incredibly proud of the history we have all made. Especially the impact Snowfall has had on the culture. Very rarely does a TV show get to the sixth season mark and saying goodbye to ‘Franklin Saint’ will be heartbreaking. But the family and relationships I’ve made on this journey will last a lifetime. I know John Singleton is looking down smiling proud.“

Paramount+ announces four-part series: ‘Ghislaine — Partner in Crime’
Paramount+

Paramount+ has announced a four-part docuseries called Ghislaine — Partner in Crime, about Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted ex-girlfriend of politically connected sex trafficker and abuser Jeffrey Epstein

The show will be available to stream in full starting April 7, and its producers promise that it will feature “revealing, emotional interviews with Maxwell’s siblings Ian, Kevin and Isabel Maxwell; her friends; legal experts; and her alleged victims.”

“The docuseries unravels the shocking pyramid scheme of sexual abuse that Maxwell controlled, and uncovers what really happened at Epstein’s properties, including his private island,” the announcement teases.

See It Now Studios producer Susan Zirinsky adds that the docuseries “paints a vivid picture of Maxwell’s privileged yet turbulent lifestyle, from the parties and the A-list friendships to the trial.”

In December, a jury convicted Ghislaine of conspiring with and aiding serial sex offender Epstein in his sexual abuse of underage girls. Epstein reportedly killed himself under mysterious circumstances in 2019, while in a New York City prison where he was awaiting trial.

Life imitates art: Netflix gives Pete Davidson the “short a** movies” he craved in ‘SNL’ sketch

(NOTE LANGUAGE) Last weekend’s installment of Saturday Night Live featured a music video starring Pete Davidson in which he decried the trend of overly long movies, particularly when surfing Netflix, saying he “craved some ‘Short-A** Movies.'” Now the streaming service has apparently answered back.

Netflix’s new ’90-Minute Movies’ section includes Ben Stiller‘s Zoolander, which clocks in at 90-minutes on the button; the classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which is a skosh over, at 92 minutes; and 2000’s Road Trip, from a pre-Hangover, Old School and Joker director Todd Phillips.

There’s no shortage of thrills and chills in the section as well, with the Final Destination films, Nightmare on Elm Street and Anaconda also there.

Not included are Michael Mann‘s two hour and 50-minute Heat, which Pete in the sketch says left his friends Chris Redd, Gunna and actor Simon Rex “drooling on the couch,” or Martin Scorcese‘s 3 hour, 45-minute long epic Once Upon a Time in America.

“Think about this,” Pete notes during a break in the song. “Sex and the City 2 was two hours and 26 minutes long,” compared to Jurassic Park, which “told the history of dinosaurs, how DNA works, and explained the science of bringing dinosaurs back,” all in a tight two hours and seven minutes.

So if you’re a “simple man with no attention span,” like Pete raps about, you’re in luck.

“He’s not that guy” — ‘Bad Boys’ director Michael Bay thought Will Smith slap “was a setup” before Oscars outburst

Bad Boys and Bad Boys II director Michael Bay didn’t want to talk about the Oscar moment everyone has been talking about — but like the rest of us, he found himself doing it anyway.

After initially telling Yahoo! Entertainment he didn’t really care about the buzzworthy moment between Will Smith and Chris Rock, Bay relented.

“First of all, it’s wrong to begin with,” said the filmmaker, who was promoting his new movie Ambulance.

He added, “I don’t really care. Hollywood gets very self-absorbed. There are babies getting blown up in the Ukraine right now. We should be talking about that…”

That said, Bay noted regarding Smith, “I’ve worked with him. He’s not that guy. I’ve never seen him lose his cool like that.”

He also maintained that when he first saw the incident, “I thought it was a setup because I saw his smirk. I’ve been on set when Will has screwed with people and joked with people.”

However, Bay said that when he heard Will yell, he could tell he was really mad.

Bay also seemed to think Smith could have done more damage if he’d wanted to. “Listen, it was a slap. It wasn’t a punch. He’s very good at fighting, he’s trained at that,” the director said, before repeating, “It was wrong.”
