(NOTE LANGUAGE) The ABC family comedy black-ish ended its eight-year run Tuesday night, with Anthony Anderson‘s Andre Johnson quitting his job and moving the family out of the familiar Sherman Oaks, California home they’ve shared for the past eight seasons — with a little encouragement from Olympian Simone Biles.

As the episode opens, it seems not much has changed in the 17 years since the Johnsons moved into the posh neighborhood, leading Andre to believe he’s ready for a change.

“If I’ve learned anything, I would say you have to do what you want to do, and not what anybody else wants you to do,” Biles, tells Dre during a visit to his office. “Do a gut check. What’s your heart telling you?”

When Dre pitches the idea of moving to a Black neighborhood to his wife, Rainbow — played by Tracee Ellis Ross — and adds that he wants to quit his job too, she enthusiastically replies, “I think we should blow this b**** up.”

The Johnson kids, Diane and Jack — played respectively by Marsai Martin and Miles Brown — are skeptical at first, until they get a look at their sprawling new digs.

However, the move is bittersweet for Marcus Scribner‘s Junior, who realizes “It’s not just over for me this time, it’s over for all of us.”

As Dre and Bow survey the now empty rooms of the soon-to-be former digs, they decide to hold a New Orleans-style funeral for the house. Now joined by Yara Shahidi‘s Zoey, they throw roses into a casket, after which they’re joined by the entire cast and crew, who dance down the street to the strains of “When the Saints Go Marching In,” followed by Stevie Wonder‘s “As.”

Terrible people treating each other terribly is one way to describe the new Amazon Prime Video limited series A Very British Scandal, which launches on FridayClaire Foy and Paul Bettany star in this true story of a 1960’s sex and divorce scandal that rocked Britain, with a LOT of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll’s dirty laundry spread far and wide.

So what’s it like playing character’s that were horrible? Bettany tells ABC Audio he doesn’t believe in the old actor’s adage that you can’t judge the characters you play.

I do tend to judge my characters,” he admits. “I mean, I think that is often nonsense. You can’t play [AdolphHitler and not judge him.”

Foy adds, “But it is true, though, that you do get to a point where…once you understand the human being, it’s very difficult to hate them because you kind of go everybody’s got their stuff going on haven’t they? Right.”

When it came to her role as the Duchess, Foy says it also took her a while to get to that point, sharing, “She’s very privileged and entitled. So it was really difficult to be not just be really annoyed with her all the time. But I did get there.”

Even so, Foy hopes the series helps audiences understand the traumas that made the Duchess the way she was.

“She had eight miscarriages, fell down a lift shaft nearly died, almost died of septicemia, she had a speech impediment and was basically treated incredibly badly by her mother,” Foy explains. “Everybody has those sorts of things and it’s just about finding them and trying to use that so that the audience kind of comes with you on the journey of them as opposed to just hating their guts.”

The hit romantic comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding was released 20 years ago today.

In honor of the anniversary, Nia Vardalos, who played Toula Portokalos in the film, reflected on writing the script for the film and detailed what she learned from the initial pushback she received.

Sharing a thread on Twitter centered on the 20-year anniversary, Vardalos wrote, “When agents/managers said my script wasn’t good and actors shouldn’t write, I recall wondering why they were angry. They fired me.”

“So, I changed the material into a solo stage show,” she continued. “@RitaWilson saw the play and said, ‘this should be a movie.’ I handed her my screenplay, this creator & producer got the film made with me as the lead. We premiered in 106 theaters, expanded to more, ran for over a year.”

Vardalos, who received an Oscar nomination for best screenplay and a Golden Globe nomination for best actress for the film, also commented on the mixed reactions it received.

“People full of love loved it, and again some were snide, hateful,” Vardalos said.

The film, produced by Rita Wilson, her husband Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, ended up grossing $368 million worldwide.

Monday’s sixth-season premiere of Better Call Saul led to a record number of sign-ups for AMC’s streaming service, the network has announced.

“Whether streaming on AMC+, watching on our linear ad-supported network or engaging on social media, the fans showed up and last night was just the beginning of what will be an unforgettable final season of what has become a landmark series for our company and all of television,” said AMC Studios head Dan McDermott in a statement Tuesday. “[F]ans of the show met the moment of its return with a response befitting everything this remarkable creative team has delivered.”

The prequel series serves as an origin story for Bob Odenkirk‘s lovably crooked Breaking Bad attorney James Morgan “Jimmy” McGill, AKA Saul Goodman. The first episode of its sixth season, “Wine and Roses,” attracted 1.4 million total viewers, making it the #1 cable drama premiere of 2022 to date.

Johnny Depp took the stand for the first time in a Virginia courtroom Tuesday, as part of his defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Depp said, “today is the first opportunity to speak about this case,” and noted having the case air out the ugly details of his life with Heard wasn’t comfortable in the least.

“I was always a very private person, so for me to…sit before you all and spill the truth, is quite exposing, and it’s quite unfortunate,” the former Pirates of the Caribbean series star said.

“It’s unfortunate it’s not only exposing not only for me, it’s exposing to my family, it’s exposing for Ms. Heard,” he testified.

“It never had to go in this direction,” Depp said, adding, “I can’t say that I’m embarrassed, because I know that I’m doing the right thing.”

Depp also commented, “Truth is the only thing I’m interested in. Lies will get you nowhere, but lies build upon lies and build upon lies. I’m obsessed with the truth.”

Attorneys for both stars leveled accusations of abuse against each other in the case, as they did during a libel trial in the U.K. Depp is suing Heard for defamation for her 2019 Washington Post op-ed in which she said she was a victim of domestic abuse. Although he wasn’t specifically named in the article, the actor insists the article amounted to defamation by inference, which is punishable according to Virginia law.

The (vis)count is in: The second season of Netflix’s Bridgerton has become even more popular than its predecessor.

Referencing the show’s town gossip, the streaming service announced, “After four weeks atop the English TV list, Lady Whistledown is most pleased to reveal that Bridgerton Season 2 is now the Most Popular English language series of all time with 627.11M hours viewed, ahead of Bridgerton Season 1 in second place.

Netflix also points out that this past week was the first time one of its shows ranked in the first and second place on its Most Popular list; further, season 2 appeared in the Top 10 in 88 countries.

It should be said that “English language” is an interesting asterisk when it comes to the streamer’s records, because the show can’t hold a silver candlestick to Netflix’s all-time record holder, Korea’s Squid Game, of which 1.65 billion hours were watched in its first 28 days of release.

“Talent without training is nothing” says Luke Skywalker in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, and it seems that Hayden Christensen took that to heart when reprising his Star Wars prequel role of Anakin Skywalker for the forthcoming series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Fans were thrilled when news broke that Christensen was returning, and the actor took the commitment to heart by binging all of the Star Wars-related content made since he first donned Darth Vader’s helmet at the close of 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Of particular importance was the Emmy-winning animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and its follow-up, Star Wars: Rebels. The former delved deeply into the battle brother relationship between his character and Ewan McGregor‘s Obi-Wan Kenobi, which sours when Skywalker turns to the Dark Side.

The latter series also featured Vader, and climaxed with a heartbreaking confrontation between Vader and his former Clone Wars student, Ahsoka Tano.

“They did a lot with these characters in those shows,” Christensen tells Entertainment Weekly. “And they did further explore the relationship. There was interesting stuff there to learn about. It was great fun getting to go back and re-immerse yourself in this world that just continues to grow and become more and more vast.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts May 27 with two episodes on Disney+.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.
