ABC’s acclaimed medical drama The Good Doctor finally returns at 10 p.m. Monday for fans eager to learn what comes from the show’s cliffhanger season finale.

In the closing moments of the previous season, things were rosy at a rooftop wedding ceremony for Freddie Highmore‘s Dr. Shaun Murphy and Paige Spara‘s Lea Diallo.

However, fans were left wondering what happened to Christina Chang‘s Dr. Lim and Elfina Luk‘s nurse Villenueva after the latter’s abusive ex stabbed them, leaving them in a pool of blood floors below the party.

“We’ll sort of pick up in the immediate aftermath,” Highmore says without divulging any spoilers.

The actor, whose character is on the autism spectrum, says Shaun brings out the best of him. “I feel like playing Shaun sometimes makes me a better person,” he admits. “I think because I’m a Brit, I’m naturally quite cynical, and Shaun being the opposite of that probably rubs off on me in a good way.”

He also reckons Shaun is what keeps people tuning in as they mount their sixth season. “I think initially it was, you know, the fact that Shaun was such a hopeful character and in a time where the hope was maybe hard to come by, and that probably remains true to some extent today,” Highmore says.

“And so I think, you know, having a character like Shaun was refreshing and hopefully remains so.”

On October 4, a reboot of the classic horror franchise Hellraiser comes to haunt Hulu.

Odessa A’zion, the real-life daughter of Better Things‘ Pamela Adlon, plays Riley, who comes to learn it isn’t advisable to mess around with mysterious black magic boxes.

Doing so brings other-dimensional creatures called cenobites to Riley’s world, led by the iconic and aptly named Pinhead, played this time around by trans actress Jamie Clayton

A’zion tells ABC Audio it wasn’t hard to look scared around the pale-faced, sadomasochistic creatures, because unlike other movies, they weren’t computer-generated.

“Sometimes, you know, you do scenes with a tennis ball on a stick,” she says of what actors sometimes have to look at on set, before special effects wizards add in CG monsters. “We had none of that. This was all right in front of us, exactly like you saw in the trailer, exactly like you’ll see in the movie.”

“We were doing scenes with real cenobites,” she laughs. “It’s crazy, it was all practical, it was incredible to look at. It was insane!

She added of Josh and Sierra Russell‘s Russell FX artists, who worked with Hellraiser director David Bruckner on his horror films The Ritual and The Night House, “These guys are so talented!”

Bullet Train, the action comedy starring Brad Pitt and directed by his former stunt double-turned John Wick director David Leitch, has crossed the hundred million dollar mark.

It’s no small feat for a post-pandemic summer movie that didn’t involve superheroes or Tom Cruise in a cockpit.

What’s more, Bullet Train sped past the competition in its first week available on streaming. According to Fandango’s streaming service Vudu’s charts, Bullet Train managed to shoot past Top Gun: Maverick for the number-one slot on the streaming charts for the week of September 26th through October 2.

Bullet Train, which also stars Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bad Bunny, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz and Sandra Bullock, can be streamed in 4K Ultra HD with more than an hour of extra content not seen in theaters.

Good Morning America

Kim Kardashian is as famous for her business savvy as for her celebrity, but she’s just settled with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for her part in improperly promoting a cryptocurrency asset.

The Kardashians star has settled with the government watchdog for “$1.26 million in penalties, disgorgement, and interest,” according to an SEC statement, and also has agreed to “cooperate with the Commission’s ongoing investigation” into her promotion of EthereumMax.

The SEC charged that Kim promoted the cryptocurrency to her 278 million social media followers without disclosing that she was paid $250,000 to do so, which is a violation of the “anti-touting” provision of federal securities laws.

“This case is a reminder that, when celebrities or influencers endorse investment opportunities…it doesn’t mean that those investment products are right for all investors,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler in the SEC statement. “Ms. Kardashian’s case also serves as a reminder to celebrities and others that the law requires them to disclose to the public when and how much they are paid to promote investing in securities.”

Also as part of the settlement, Kardashian agreed to not promote any crypto securities for three years.

For her part, Kim’s lawyer noted in a statement that she “was pleased to have resolved this matter with the SEC.”

“Kardashian fully cooperated with the SEC from the very beginning and she remains willing to do whatever she can to assist the SEC in this matter,” the statement continued. “She wanted to get this matter behind her to avoid a protracted dispute. The agreement she reached with the SEC allows her to do that so that she can move forward with her many different business pursuits.”

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ trailer shows threat of “eternal war” with Atlantis

Marvel Studios

On Monday, Marvel Studios released the action-packed official trailer to the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

As the teaser did, the trailer shows the technologically advanced African kingdom coming to grips with the loss of its King T’Challa, who was played by the late Chadwick Boseman.

It also shows conflict with another kingdom, Atlantis, and its leader, Namor, played by series newcomer Tenoch Huerta. Namor, the Sub-Mariner, first made a splash in Marvel Comics #1, back in 1939.

“His people do not call him general or king. They call him Kukulkan. The feather serpent god,” cautions Winston Duke‘s M’Baku. “Killing him will risk eternal war!”

The trailer also shows the powerful figure able to fly, thanks to his comics-accurate feathered ankles.

“He’s coming for the surface world,” warns Letitia Wright‘s princess Shuri.

The two kingdoms are shown clashing on both on land and in Namor’s stomping grounds, the sea.

The coming attraction also shows glimpses of Dominique Thorne‘s Riri Williams, taking to the air in her home-made Ironheart armor, inspired by Tony Stark’s famous Iron Man suits.

The trailer ends with a new person having taken up the mantle of Black Panther: A female form drops into frame in a trademark vibranium suit — but the helmet hides the face, so we don’t know if it’s T’Challa sister, Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o‘s Nakia, or another of the other strong women on Wakanda’s deep bench, like Danai Gurira‘s Okoye.

Wakanda Forever hits theaters on November 11.

Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

In Brief: Sacheen Littlefeather dies, and more

Tarzan may be swinging into movie theaters again. Sony Pictures has picked up the screen rights to Edgar Rice Burrows‘ pulp hero, eyeing a “total reinvention” of the character, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It would be the latest of many movie and TV adaptations of Tarzan, dating back to 1918’s Tarzan of the Apes, which starred Elmo Lincoln in the titular role. Johnny Weissmuller was arguably the most popular and longest-lasting Tarzan, with 12 films to his credit, beginning with 1932’s Tarzan of the Apes. The most recent version, 2016’s The Legend of Tarzan starred Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie playing the title character and Jane, respectively…

Sean Penn will play a fictionalized version of himself in the satirical Australian series C*A*U*G*H*T. Per Variety, “The six-part series follows four Australian soldiers sent on a secret mission to a war-torn country. Mistaken for Americans, they are captured by freedom fighters and produce a hostage video that goes viral. When the soldiers reach celebrity status, they realize that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them…”

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that The Daily Show will continue on Comedy Central following current host Trevor Noah‘s departure. There had been speculation the long-running late night series would move to Paramount+ after Noah signed off. Insiders tell the outlet that execs at Comedy Central’s parent company, Paramount had no prior notice of the comedian’s announcement to the in-studio audience at Thursday’s telecast that he would leave the show after seven seasons. Comedy Central already has a solid roster of Daily Show correspondents to consider as Noah’s replacement, including Desi Lydic, Roy Wood Jr., Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta and Dulcé Sloan

Sacheen Littlefeather, who declined Marlon Brando’s Oscar for The Godfather on his behalf at the 1973 Academy Awards, died Sunday, the Academy of Motion Pictures has announced. A cause of death was not given. She was 75. Back in June, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences apologized to Littlefeather for her treatment at the Oscars that night. She was escorted off the stage with audience members booing after her one-minute speech on Native American rights. Littlefeather attended an in-person presentation of the apology at the Academy Museum on Sept. 17 of this year…

The horror film Smile topped the weekend box office, beating expectations with an estimated $22 million debut — the biggest domestic opening in nine weeks. The modestly-budgeted movie, starring Sosie Bacon — daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick — added an estimated $14.5 million overseas, for a global total of $36.5 million.

Last week’s #1, Don’t Worry Darling, dropped to second place, grabbing an estimated $7.3 million. Its two-week global tally now stands at $54.7 million.

The Woman King slipped to third place in its third week of release, delivering an estimated $7 million and bringing its domestic tally to $46.7 million.

The news wasn’t so great for Bros. The LGBTQ+ romantic comedy — co-written by and starring comedian Billy Eichner alongside Luke Macfarlane — debuted in fourth with a disappointing $4.8 million.

The re-release of Avatar rounded out the top five, adding an estimated $4.7. That brings its North American tally to $19 million. Overseas, the film has earned a total of $58 million.

‘SNL’ roasts Adam Levine and Armie Hammer scandals

Saturday Night Live took on Adam Levine and Armie Hammer‘s respective social media scandals on its season 48 opener.

Saturday’s host, Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller played the host of a game show called “Send Something Normal,” which challenged the Maroon 5 frontman and Call Me by Your Name actor — played respectively by Mikey Day and James Austin Johnson –plus Neil DeGrasse Tyson, played by Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang as himself, to come up with a normal reply to a woman’s DM. An appropriate response would earn them $100 million.

Day’s Levine was up first, asked to reply to a young woman who DM’ed him to say she was a “huge fan” and loved his music.

“OK. Tough call. Can I see her most liked vacation photo?” Day quipped. “All right. Going to kick things off with a ‘Holy moly!’ But I got three more, though. ‘Holy moly! Holy crap! Your body is making my penis smile.’”

Day’s line was a response to Levine’s alleged Instagram messages to 23-year-old model Sumner Stroh, one of which read, “It is truly unreal how f****** hot you are. Like it blows my mind.”

Green, spoofing Hammer’s alleged DMs describing himself as “100% a cannibal” and that he’d “want to eat” the recipients, insisted, “I’ve done a lot of work on myself, and I’ve changed,” before saying his DM reply would be, “I want to break open your bones and suck out the marrow.”

Last week, Levine addressed the DM allegations against him in an Instagram Story, saying he “used poor judgment” in speaking with anyone other than his wife in a flirtatious manner, and “crossed the line during a regrettable period in my life.”

Claims of Hammer’s text messages and patterns of allegedly violent behavior began to emerge in 2021. He has denied the accusations.

ABC

A new season of Dancing with the Stars is here, and former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay shared who she is rooting for and whether or not we’ll see her go for the Mirrorball Trophy one day.

Lindsay told ABC Audio that she is “obviously” rooting for Gabby Windey, who is shouldering the daunting task of continuing the Bachelorette winning streak started by Hannah Brown and continued by Kaitlyn Bristowe.

Personal bias aside, who are her top four picks?

Jordin Sparks. I’m really rooting for her. Wayne Brady is hilarious. I’d like to see him [win],” she said. She’s also cheering for movie star Selma Blair: “The woman can do anything. She has such an inspiring story.”

Lindsay also praised TikToker Charli D’Amelio, adding, “She kills it. She is so fun to watch … Charli went out there and showed everyone she’s a dancer. Period.”

With all this DWTS talk, will Bachelor Nation see Lindsay step onto the ballroom one day?

“It is not happening anytime soon for me,” she laughed, adding Bristowe may have scared her away by being completely honest about all the injuries she suffered during her winning season. “She was in pain. She had bruises and she had to do ice baths and massages … When they come out victorious at the end, I understand the tears because it really is a blood, sweat and tears situation.”

“I had no idea how hard it is,” she continued. “It does seem like a really fun experience … So, I don’t know, never say never. I just can’t imagine it at the moment.”

Dancing with the Stars airs Monday at 8 p.m. only on Disney+.
