Diane Keaton is being remembered by some of her co-stars, friends and admirers. The Oscar-winning star of movies like Annie Hall and Something’s Gotta Give died Saturday at age 79.

Keaton’s First Wives Club co-star Goldie Hawn wrote a lengthy tribute on Instagram that read, in part,  “Diane, we aren’t ready to lose you. You’ve left us with a trail of fairy dust, filled with particles of light and memories beyond imagination. How do we say goodbye? … There was, and will be, no one like you … I’m going to miss the hell out of you.”

Bette Midler, who also starred in The First Wives Club, wrote of Keaton, “She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!”

Steve Martin, who co-starred with Keaton in the Father of the Bride movies and in 2013’s The Big Wedding, posted a photo on X of Keaton in the ’70s and wrote, “Loved!” adding her line from Annie Hall: “La dee da, la dee da.” On Instagram, he posted an exchange between Keaton and Father of the Bride co-star Martin Short in Interview magazine, in which he asked her, “Who’s sexier, me or Steve Martin?” She replied, “Well, you’re both idiots.” Martin wrote that the exchange “sums up our delightful relationship with Diane.”

Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who played Keaton’s daughter in the Father of the Bride movies, wrote, “Diane, working with you will always be one of the highlights of my life. You are one of a kind, and it was thrilling to be in your orbit for a time. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your talent, and above all, your laughter.”

Mary Steenburgen, who starred with Keaton in Book Club and its sequel, told ABC News, “Diane was magic. There was no one, nor will there ever be, anyone like her. I loved her and felt blessed to be her friend. My love to her family. What a wonder she was!!!”

Mandy Moore, who co-starred with Keaton in the 2007 movie Because I Said So, wrote on Instagram, “They say don’t meet your heroes but I got to work with one of mine and even call her ‘mom’ for a few months. An honor of a lifetime. What an incandescent human Di is and was … One of the very best to ever do it.”

On Instagram, Viola Davis wrote, “No!! No!!! No!! God, not yet, NO!!! Man… you defined womanhood. The pathos, humor, levity, your ever-present youthfulness and vulnerability — you tattooed your SOUL into every role, making it impossible to imagine anyone else inhabiting them.”

And a source tells People that Woody Allen, who made eight films with Keaton and was involved romantically with her for a time, is “extremely distraught and surprised and upset” about her death.

Legendary actress Diane Keaton, known for her Oscar-winning role in Annie Hall, and iconic performances in The Godfather films and The First Wives Club, has died at 79. Her death was confirmed to ABC News by Dori Rath, who produced several movies with the actress.

A cause of death was not provided. ABC News has confirmed that the LAFD responded to a medical call at Keaton’s Brentwood Home at 8:08 Saturday morning and transported a patient to a hospital.

Born Diane Hall, Keaton got her start on Broadway in 1969 in various productions, including Woody Allen‘s Play It Again, Sam. She was also a standout in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, playing Kay, the girlfriend-turned-wife of Al Pacino‘s Michael Corleone.

But Keaton became best known for her roles opposite Allen — with whom she was romantically involved for a time — in movies like Sleeper, Love and Death and the big-screen adaptation of Play It Again, Sam. All told, they worked together in eight films. Her iconic role opposite Allen as the titular character in 1977’s Annie Hall won her an Academy Award and made her an unlikely fashion icon to boot, thanks to her character’s fedoras, ties, vests and men’s shirts.

In 2018, after Allen was accused of molesting his daughter Dylan Farrow in the ’90s, Keaton defended him, writing on Twitter, “Woody Allen is my friend and I continue to believe him.”

Post-Annie Hall, Keaton appeared in more serious films, such as Looking for Mr. Goodbar, and Allen’s Interiors and Manhattan. She was nominated for an Oscar for 1981’s Reds opposite her then-boyfriend Warren Beatty.

Starting in 1987 with Baby Boom, Keaton began a collaboration with writer/director Nancy Meyers in a series of comedy films, including 1991’s Father of the Bride and its sequel, and 2003’s Something’s Gotta Give, which earned Keaton another best actress Oscar nomination. Her final best actress nomination came with her role in 1996’s Marvin’s Room. Her final released films were 2024’s Summer Camp and Arthur’s Whisky.

In addition to her acting roles, Keaton was a director of music videos, TV shows and feature films, including 2000’s Hanging Up. She wrote several books, including bestselling memoirs, and edited others. Keaton was also a photographer, real estate developer and activist.

Keaton is survived by her daughter, Dexter Keaton, and son, Duke Keaton.

It’s time to go back into The Grid.

Tron: Ares, the third film in the Tron franchise, has arrived in theaters. Its star Jared Leto told ABC-owned station WPVI he has been a huge fan of Tron going back to when he was 11 years old and seeing the original film at the movie theater.

“For me, Tron is like someone else’s Star Wars,” Leto said. “I just love the storyline, I love the characters, I love The Grid, I loved the world, I loved that technology, and what they did in that first film was really groundbreaking.”

Leto also praised the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy, saying, “It took us to a new place and I absolutely adore that film as well.”

Now, with Tron: Ares, the original film’s star Jeff Bridges returns to his role as Kevin Flynn while Leto stars as a highly sophisticated AI being that is brought to the real world for a dangerous mission. Leto says it was surreal to act alongside Bridges in the film.

“He’s incredible, one of my favorite actors of all time,” Leto said. “When he walked on the set for the first time, everyone applauded because they were so excited to have him.”

Leto still remembers going to see the original Tron in theaters and says it is a dream come true to become part of the franchise he loves so much.

“I’m really grateful,” Leto said. “I hope that there’s a kid out there that goes to see [director] Joachim [Rønning]’s Tron and has the same experience that I did that just has their mind blown and is introduced to a world they never knew existed.”

Michael J. Fox opens up about his career-defining roles in new book ‘Future Boy’

Michael J. Fox is recalling the time in his career when he booked the two roles that many know him for now.

In his new book, Future Boy, Fox tells the story about when he starred in the television sitcom Family Ties and the blockbuster film Back to the Future at the same time.

“It was an amazing time,” Fox told Good Morning America co-host George Stephanopoulos.

Fox’s three-month journey of starring in both projects almost didn’t happen because the creator of Family Ties didn’t want to risk losing him. At the time, actor Eric Stoltz was cast as the iconic role of Marty McFly, but director Steven Spielberg wanted Fox as the lead in his film, which would go on to become a trilogy.

“They were shooting with another actor and it hadn’t been what they wanted it to be,” Fox said. “So they were coming at me again and he (the Family Ties creator) said, ‘I’m gonna let you do it, but you’re gonna have to do the show in the daytime, the movie at night. And I don’t want to hear about the movie.'”

Fox added that he was told that the show’s creator didn’t want Fox to make up any excuses, either, if he couldn’t handle juggling both jobs.

Nevertheless, the Family Ties creator said, “Read the script and if you think it’s OK with the script, you should.”

“It was in my hand,” Fox said and recalled that the show creator said the script was “the best script I ever read.”

For Fox, that was enough to convince him to take on the role of Marty. “I was completely doin’ it,” he said.

By day, Fox worked on the set of Family Ties, and by night, he would film Back to the Future.

The actor added that there were times on the set of Family Ties when it would be what he described as a “blur.”

Future Boy will be available on Oct. 14 and is available now for preorder wherever books are sold.

Julia Roberts is a college professor at a personal and professional crossroads in Luca Guadagnino‘s latest film, After the Hunt.

The film, which arrives in theaters on Friday, also stars Ayo Edebiri as a star philosophy college student and Andrew Garfield as a fellow professor at Yale University.

Roberts participated in a press conference about the film, where she said she was first drawn to the project by the prospect of working with Guadagnino.

“It’s so fun getting to be in the orbit of someone who’s so interested in people, and curious and in love with why we do the things we do or don’t,” Roberts said of the director.

The actress said that her character, professor Alma Imhoff, “was so foreign and complicated and challenging to me,” but Guadagnino helped her get through her initial fears of taking the role on.

“He made me feel so excited at the possibilities of this kind of portrayal, but deeply encouraged and supported and just was believing in me before I even knew what we were doing,” Roberts said.

When asked about how she has seen the role of women evolve on screen over the course of her career, Roberts took pause and considered before answering.

“It’s funny, because people do try to talk a lot about the evolution of women in film. Nobody ever talks about the evolution, or de-evolution, of men in film,” Roberts said. “I guess I get a little harrumphy about it because I don’t really know what it means. I think people — characters — are so different and flawed, and some are empowered and powerful and evolved, and some are truncated and lost. It can be 1920 and it can be 2004, and we can have these same things. What this movie will do or not do in that capacity, it’s beyond my understanding in this moment.”

‘John Candy: I Like Me’ looks back on the life of the iconic comedian

For Chris Candy and Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, sifting through old footage of their father for the documentary John Candy: I Like Me felt like detective work.

“I didn’t realize that there’d been so many traits, and behaviors and perspectives on how he treated people that I had. You know, he wasn’t around to tell me how to do that stuff,” Chris tells ABC Audio. “That was … spooky, almost.”

John Candy was known for his extensive comedy career, which included time on the sketch series SCTV, and starring roles in movies like Splash and Uncle Buck. John died from a heart attack in 1994, when Chris and Jennifer were still children.

“For me to rewatch, and watch new interviews, was — I enjoyed a lot of them because they were fun, but some of them I was like, ‘Man, this was really uncomfortable,’” Jennifer says. “He had to endure a lot in his business.”

The documentary details John’s struggles with anxiety while often facing pressure for his weight. Sometimes he’d slip into a character he’d call “Johnny Toronto,” who would pay for extravagant nights out — even if the real John couldn’t pay for it.

“Johnny Toronto is also just like a way to avoid anxiety, a way to avoid conflict. I’ll pay for everything so you don’t need to worry about it, we don’t need to worry about it, and maybe we don’t have to talk about it. So I think that that talks about the schism within our father,” says Chris.

The documentary, directed by Colin Hanks, features interviews with comedy legends like Bill Murray, Steve Martin and Catherine O’Hara. All of them reference John’s generosity, on and off the screen.

“It may have looked like all fun and games — but there was a lot that went into it,” says Jennifer. “He had to make sure the crew was taken care of, and everyone was taken care of.”

One day after reports claimed Sam Mendes cast Saoirse Ronan to play Paul McCartney’s wife Linda McCartney in his upcoming Beatles films, a new report claims the director has also found the actress to play Ringo Starr’s wife.

According to Variety, British actress Mia McKenna-Bruce has been cast to play Ringo’s first wife, Maureen Starkey (Ringo’s birth name is Richard Starkey), in The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Ringo will be played by Saltburn star Barry Keoghan.

The 28-year-old McKenna-Bruce starred in the 2023 film How to Have Sex, which earned her a BAFTA Rising Star Award, as well as a British Independent Film Award. She also appeared in the Peacock series Vampire Academy.

Mendes’ four Beatles films are scheduled to hit theaters in April 2028, with each one told from the point of view of a different band member. In addition to Keoghan, they will star Paul Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.

Ringo married Maureen, a hairdresser who he met when she was 16, in 1965. The couple had three children — Zak Starkey, Jason Starkey and Lee Starkey  before divorcing in 1975. Maureen passed away from cancer in December 1994 at age 48.

Ringo went on to marry actress Barbara Bach in 1981, after meeting on the set of the 1980 movie Caveman

The autumn he joined Hacks.

Christopher Briney has joined the season 5 cast of the Emmy-winning series Hacks. The new season of the HBO Max original comedy is currently in production.

While details about Briney’s character remain under wraps, HBO has released a photo of him on set with the show’s star Jean Smart. The photo finds Briney and Smart embracing with wide smiles. Briney’s character wears a mostly unbuttoned shirt with gold details and black jeans. The opened shirt shows off several tattoos on his chest.

Briney is known for his role as Conrad Fisher in the hit Prime Video series The Summer I Turned Pretty. The show finished its three-season run on Sept. 17, although a feature-length film has been announced and will serve as a direct continuation of the show’s series finale.

Along with Smart, the season 5 cast of Hacks includes Hannah Einbinder, Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato and Rose Abdoo.

Downs created and showruns Hacks with Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky. The show was renewed for season 5 ahead of its season 4 finale back in May.

At the time, Erin Underhill, the president of Universal Television, said in a press release, “Like Deborah Vance herself, Hacks only gets bolder, sharper, and more iconic with time. We’re beyond thrilled to keep the laughter rolling with Jen, Paul, Lucia, our extraordinary cast and crew.”
