Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny opened to an estimated $60 million at the North American box office — good enough for a first place finish, though still not a great start for a film that cost just shy of 300 million to make, not counting marketing. The fifth Indiana Jones film, once again starring Harrison Ford as the titular whip-wielding explorer, grabbed an estimated $70 million overseas, for $130 million global haul.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse held on to second place with an estimated $11.6 million, bringing its five-week domestic gross to $340 million and over $600 million worldwide.

Pixar’s Elemental took third place, delivering an estimated $11.3 million in its third week of release. Its North American tally currently stands at $88 million and $186 million globally.

Jennifer Lawrence‘s R-rated comedy No Hard Feelings pulled up in fourth place once again with an estimated $7.5 million. Its two-week domestic total now stands at $29 million, to go along with $20 million at the international box office.

Rounding out the top five was Transformers: Rise of the Beasts delivered an estimated $7 million in its fourth week of release. The seventh Transformers movie has racked up $136 million at the North American box office and $381 million worldwide.

While most people have seen the trailer to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One — and leading man Tom Cruise jumping a motorcycle off a cliff — there was an even more dangerous capper to what Cruise called the “most dangerous stunt” of his career.

Paramount Pictures has dropped another behind-the-scenes video, this one of what appears to be what happens after Cruise’s Ethan Hunt pulls the ripcord.

Just a normal skydive would be too vanilla for Cruise, so enter “speedflying,” called one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

“With Tom there are no limits,” says co-writer and director Christopher McQuarrie, who admitted Cruise’s stunt left the crew “in absolute terror.”

The sequence called for Tom to fly at high speed in a parachute specifically designed for speed and aerobatics. “We’re gonna do spirals, and we’re going to be landing at an incredibly high speed — over 80 kilometers an hour,” Cruise enthuses about the gag.

The video shows Cruise defying death yet again, rocketing past rocks that could have pulverized him and zooming inches from ground, with a camera truck charging toward him.

The superstar and producer recently explained to Entertainment Tonight that the initial bike jump was scheduled for the first day of shooting back in 2020, because logically, if he died, well, that would be the end of the movie.

“Well, we know either we will continue with the film or we’re not,” Cruise said. “Let’s know day one!” he laughed.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One opens in theaters July 12 from Paramount Pictures.

Shortly after the news broke on Friday, June 30, that Oscar-winning Little Miss Sunshine co-star Alan Arkin died at age 89, his friends and fans in Hollywood began sounding off on social media.

Michael Douglas, Arkin’s co-star in The Kominsky Method, said, “Today we lost a wonderful actor whose intelligence, sense of comedy and consummate professionalism over the past 70 years has left an indelible mark on our industry.”

Douglas continued, “My experience of working with Alan were some of my most memorable. He will be deeply missed. Sincere condolences to his wife, Suzanne, and his family.”

Arkin played a therapist to John Cusack‘s conflicted hitman in Grosse Pointe Blank. The actor tweeted a behind-the-scenes story about the making of the movie, when Arkin requested a rewrite to part of Cusack’s script. “I said you have Alan Arkin wanting to personalize and deepen this comedy … I wrote it – he can say whatever the f*** he wants,” Cusack quoted himself.

Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt posted a series of images from Arkin’s movies, asking, “Did ANYONE have the range Alan Arkin had? Hilarious, sinister, insane, tragic. No mood he couldn’t live in. RIP.”

West Wing‘s Bradley Whitford commented, “No greater comic actor. No greater dramatic actor. Not a coincidence … Rest In Peace Alan Arkin. Well done, sir.”

Better Call Saul veteran Michael McKean posted a series of tributes that concluded with, “Rest in peace, Alan. Nobody better, ever.”

Comic and actor Paul Reiser noted, “A world without Alan Arkin is …not so great. I’ve loved this man from the moment he came on screen in ‘The Russians Are Coming..’ (‘Whitaker Walt!l) I was 8. Getting to know him – and getting a laugh out of him – is a highlight of my life. RIP dear friend.”

Their careers saw them as fierce box office competitors, so it’s almost fitting that weeks after the documentary Arnold, which tracked the life of Arnold Schwarzenegger, debuted on Netflix that the streaming service revealed a teaser about a doc on the life of Sylvester Stallone.

“Do I have regrets? Hell yeah, I have regrets,” the Rocky icon says in the preview of Sly.

“What is healthier: To live under the illusion that you could have been great, or actually have the opportunity to be great, and you blow it, and you realize you’re a failure.”

Stallone also talks about the “great price” of a life in front of the camera, notably how it can affect your family life — something that he incidentally explores in detail in his Paramount+ reality show, The Family Stallone.

“Nothing inspires you like taking your history, balling it up,” the star says, miming a basketball toss into the garbage.

Netflix teases, “This retrospective documentary offers an intimate look at the Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer, paralleling his inspirational underdog-story with the indelible characters he has brought to life.”

Sly debuts in November.

Indy swung back into theaters in previews Thursday evening, June 29, and his final cinematic adventure, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, snagged some box office gold.

The movie from director James Mangold and, of course, starring Harrison Ford earned a reported $7.2 million, around the higher end of estimates, according to Deadline; a take of anywhere from $6.6 million to $7.5 million was predicted.

The trade also points out that the sneaks were better than those for action pictures with older leading men, with Daniel Craig being 53 when 2021’s No Time To Die opened with $6.3 million in previews, and Tom Cruise‘s $6 million haul from Mission: Impossible – Fallout‘s soft open in 2018, when Cruise was 55 years old.

For the record, Dial of Destiny‘s leading man Ford turns 81 on July 13.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was produced by Lucasfilm, a subsidiary of ABC News’ parent company Disney.

Christie Brinkley is calling out critics who send her mean messages.

In a post she shared on Instagram with a selfie, the model and actress, 69, addressed what she called “the wrinkle brigade” or commenters with negative things to say about her.

“They are the people that scan celebrities pages, hoping to find some cellulite, wrinkles or anything that they can point to to critique,” Brinkley said. “It must be some form of compensation for some things they are lacking.”

But despite the mean comments that she receives, Brinkley went on to highlight those who uplift her.

“There are others who pop up with messages so kind and valuable,” she said. “Those are the comments that restore my faith and make my heart sing!”

“Thank you sweet souls,” she added.

In 2020, Brinkley also took to Instagram to share a body-positive message with a throwback post of her 1977 Cosmopolitan magazine cover.

“I remember I was worried that I looked fat,” she said at the time. “I look back at these and think that worry was such a waste of time.”

“If only the perspective we gain with age that alleviates the worries, could be passed on and absorbed by the younger generation,” she added. “But I do think shifting the focus to feeling great is a giant step in the right direction.”

Ryan Gosling is sharing Barbie memories with his sister.

The Barbie actor stepped out with his sister, Mandi Gosling, on Wednesday, June 28, during the movie’s press day in Toronto, Canada.

Gosling wore a light blue suit and his sister wore a purple dress, which she paired with a Barbie-hued pink purse.

In an interview with ET Canada, Mandi Gosling said when her brother was cast as Ken for the Greta Gerwig-directed film, it was a “no brainer.”

“You had to look for the Kenergy, but I always knew it was there,” she told her brother.

Ryan Gosling replied and said his sister was his “original Barbie.”

“She was too busy being Barbie,” the Canadian actor said. “She was doing all the things all the time. You know, getting me to school safely and then she was the president of that school.”

“She had more meetings than classes. It was Barbie land. When I got to set I was like, ‘This is just like my house,'” he added.

This isn’t the first time Ryan has brought his sister to an event as his date. In 2017, he took her to the 89th Academy Awards.

Gosling stars as Ken alongside Margot Robbie as Barbie.

Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, Issa Rae and Alexandra Shipp are among the actresses also portraying Barbie, while Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and Simu Liu play Ken.

Barbie arrives in theaters on July 21.
