If you didn’t get to see Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington on Broadway in their acclaimed turns in The Piano Lesson, you’re in luck.
Netflix has announced it is bringing a film adaptation of the August Wilson play to the streaming service, co-produced by John David’s Broadway vet dad, Oscar winner Denzel Washington.
The production will also star Justice League‘s Ray Fisher, Till‘s Danielle Deadwyler, Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins and Michael Potts, who appeared in the Netflix adaptation of another August Wilson work, the Oscar-winning Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
The Piano Lesson takes place in 1936 Pittsburgh, and centers on the Charles family and their heirloom, a piano that was decorated by an enslaved ancestor.
Starring Jackson and Washington,The Piano Lessonrecently concluded its run at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, having played 27 previews and 124 regular performances.It wasthe highest-grossing revival of a play on Broadway and the highest-grossing Wilson production on Broadway ever.
The Peabody Awards Board of Jurors Thursday announced 42 nominees for this year’s class. The Emmy winning Abbot Elementary, the heralded Star Wars Disney+ series Andor and AMC’s Better Call Saul were among the noms in the Entertainment category.
All the nominees “from over 1,200 entries from television, podcasts/radio and the web/digital in entertainment, news, documentary, arts, children’s/youth, public service and interactive programming … represent the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and streaming media during 2022,” according to the organization.
The winners of the 83rd annual Peabody Awards will be announced on May 9 and then celebrated on Sunday, June 11, at a ceremony at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles — Peabody’s first in-person ceremony since 2019 and the first time the event will be held in Los Angeles.
“From hilarious and heartfelt comedies to interactive and immersive stories that leverage technology to create gripping narratives, Peabody is dedicated to recognizing compelling stories across the media landscape,” noted the executive director of the organization, Jeffrey Jones.

Authorities in Daytona Beach, Florida, said former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell was found safe on Thursday after police alerted the public hours earlier that the actor was “considered missing and endangered.”
“At this time we can confirm law enforcement officials are in contact and Mr. Bell is safe,” Daytona Beach police said Thursday afternoon.
There was no further information on where he was found or why he was considered missing.
The 36-year-old actor, whose legal name is Jared Bell, is best known for his role in Drake & Josh, which was a huge hit for Nickelodeon from 2004 to 2007. He has appeared in a variety of shows in guest roles since then and has had a recurring voice role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in animated shows such as Ultimate Spider-Man from 2012 to 2017, and Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
Authorities in Daytona Beach, Florida, are searching for former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell. Police say he is considered missing and endangered.
The 36-year-old, whose legal name is Jared Bell, may have last been seen near Mainland High School Wednesday night, according to Daytona Beach police.
The actor, best known for his role in Drake & Josh, is believed to be driving a gray 2022 BMW, police said.
Drake & Josh was a huge hit for Nickelodeon from 2004 to 2007. Bell appeared in a variety of shows in guest roles since then and has had a recurring voice role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in animated shows such as Ultimate Spider-Man from 2012 to 2017, Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
In May 2021, Bell made headlines after being indicted on charges stemming from an interaction with a then-15-year-old girl in December 2017. He initially entered a not guilty plea before deciding to take a deal in June: He pleaded guilty to attempted endangering children, a fourth-degree felony, and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a first-degree misdemeanor.
He subsequently explained on Instagram that, “I didn’t get arrested, I didn’t go to jail,” maintaining, “I responded to a fan whose age I didn’t know, and when I became aware of their age, all conversation and communication stopped.”
Pose star Billy Porter is set to co-write and star in a biopic based on the life of legendary novelist, essayist and activist James Baldwin.
Porter and Dan McCabe will adapt the script for from David Leeming’s 1994 book James Baldwin: A Biography.
“As a Black queer man on this planet with relative consciousness, I find myself, like James Baldwin said, ‘in a rage all the time.’ I am because James was. I stand on James Baldwin’s shoulders, and I intend to expand his legacy for generations to come,” Porter said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

Baldwin, who died from stomach cancer in 1987 at age 63, per The New York Times‘ obituary, is best known for the books such as Notes of a Native Son, The Fire Next Time, Go Tell it on the Mountain and If Beale Street Could Talk, the last of which Barry Jenkins adapted into the 2018 Oscar-winning movie of the same name.

For the fourth year in a row, TIME Studios and ABC will present the TIME100: The World’s Most Influential People primetime television special, which will once again bring viewers inside the 17thannual TIME100 Gala, which will he held in New York City on April 26. The event will be hosted by Coolidgeand feature performances by Doja Cat and Lea Michele.

The Big Bang Theory universe may be about to expand.
Series creator Chuck Lorre is developing a new comedy set in TBBT universe, which is set to hit Max, the newly combined HBO Max-Discovery+ streaming service, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Lorre would serve as an executive producer should the series get the green light. Further details are being kept under wraps — includes any possible involvement from the original cast members, either in front of or behind the camera.
The new project would be the second Big Bang Theory spinoff, following Young Sheldon, currently in its sixth season. It stars Iain Armitage as Sheldon Cooper — a socially impaired child genius introduced as an adult played by Jim Parsons in the original series. Young Sheldon is currently the No. 1 comedy on TV among total viewers.
The Big Bang Theory which ran for 12 seasons on CBS from 2007-2019 and won 12 Emmys, is also the longest-running multicamera comedy in TV history.
Deadline reports that Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic are headed to Deadpool 3 with Ryan Reynolds, as the star and producer reunite most of the first two films’ main casts for his first DP adventure as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Baccarin played Vanessa, the love of Deadpool/Wade Wilson’s life, and Kapicic voiced Wade’s often reluctant ride-or-die, the iron-skinned mutant Colossus. As previously reported, Karan Soni, who played ‘Pool’s pal Dopinder, and Leslie Uggams, who played Blind Al, have already signed onto the film. HBO on Wednesday released the first trailer for True Detective‘s fourth installment, True Detective: Night Country, starring Oscar winner Jodie Foster. Variety reports X and Pearl actress Mia Goth has been tapped to star alongside Mahershala Ali in Marvel’s Blade. Ali will play the titular half-human, half-vampire vampire hunter, taking over the role Wesley Snipes brought to the big screen in 1998. Goth’s role in the movie has not been revealed. Amazon’s reimagining of Penny Marshall‘s A League of Their Own will officially end its run with a four-episode season 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jamie Foxx is recovering after suffering an undisclosed “medical complication” Tuesday, according to a social media post by the movie star’s daughter, Corinne Foxx.
“We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” the 29-year-old actress shared in an Instagram post on Wednesday night.
While the post did not elaborate on the exact medical concern, Corinne added that the Day Shift star is “already on his way to recovery.”
“We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy at this time,” the post concluded.
It is unclear what kind of symptoms the Oscar winner was suffering during the incident, or whether he was hospitalized.
