What’s bright, plastic and pink all over? The Barbie Dreamhouse, of course.

In promotion for her upcoming film Barbie, producer and star Margot Robbie gave Architectural Digest a tour of the candy-colored Barbie Dreamhouse set.

“We want things to be obviously artificial, but still very satisfying,” Robbie said. “Even though it’s fake, it’s really beautiful. Which is kind of like everything in Barbie Land.”

Every shade of pink imaginable is on display throughout the home, and the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, says they took great care in establishing the most dominant tints.

“I can’t even tell you the meetings we’ve had about pink,” Gerwig said. “We, like, sat with all these different kinds of pinks, and were like, ‘What is the pink? And how do the pinks interact? … When I was a little girl, I liked the pinkest, brightest things.’”

Amenities include a slide that goes from Barbie’s bedroom down to the heart-shaped pool, a magical wardrobe that displays outfits on the wall similarly to the packaging inside of a doll box and an open concept floor plan without any outer walls so that the Barbies can always see each other.

“All the Barbies in their own Barbie Dreamhouses wake up in the morning and they can wave at each other,” Robbie explains.

And while there is no actual water in Barbie Land, the Dreamhouse does have a shower, a bubble bath and that aforementioned pool.

“It’s actually funny to see how many people avoid walking [on it],” Robbie says. “Everyone walks around the pool.”

Barbie opens in theaters everywhere on July 21.

The Flash got off to a less than flashy start at the North American box office, earning an estimated $55.1 million over the weekend — good enough to take first, but less than the expected $70-million-plus opening, though it could add another $10 million or so on the Juneteenth holiday on Monday June 19. The movie, starring Ezra Miller as the titular character — a.k.a. Barry Allan — didn’t fare much better overseas, where it grabbed an estimated $75 million.

Disney-Pixar’s Elemental also had a disappointing opening weekend, finishing second with an estimated $29.5 million — the lowest opening gross for a Pixar film in 28 years. The animated feature — with a voice cast that includes Wendi McLendon-Covey and Catherine O’Hara — added an estimated $15 million overseas for a global total of $44.5 million.

Pulling up in third place was Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, delivering an estimated $27.8 million, bringing its three-week domestic total to $280 million and $489.3 globally.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts grabbed an estimated $20 million, putting it in fourth place. The latest movie in the Transformers franchise has now earned $103 million. Worldwide, Rise of the Beasts has collected $174.3 million.

Rounding out the top five was Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, earning an estimated $11.6 million in its fourth week of release. The film has now racked up $253 million at the North American box office and $466 million worldwide.

Elsewhere, Wes Anderson‘s Asteroid City — starring Tom HanksSteve CarellRita WilsonJeff GoldblumTilda SwintonJason SchwartzmanJeffrey Wright, and Liev Schreiber — scooped up an estimated $790,000 from six theaters in New York and Los Angeles. It goes wide next week.

One of the biggest hits Adult Swim ever had, Genndy Tartakovsky‘s Emmy-winning, prehistoric animated series Primal, will not be going extinct.

The adult animation network announced a third season of Primal is now underway, with Tartakovsky — a veteran of Hotel Transylvania, Samurai Jack and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars “microseries” — at the helm.

The show centers on Spear, a caveman at the dawn of evolution, and Fang, the nearly extinct dinosaur he befriends. The series was the winner of five Emmys, including a trophy for Outstanding Animated Program.

The second season of the series reached nearly 4 million viewers on Adult Swim last year, the company notes, and is the sixth most popular Adult Swim title of all time in the States. Outside of the U.S., the series is the second most popular.

In the announcement, Tartakovsky called his show “a contagious disease that I don’t ever want to cure,” noting, “Every episode flows out like an unstoppable force beyond my control. Prepare yourselves ‘Primal’ fans…!”

Starz

Jamie and Claire face unrelenting changes together when Outlander returns to Starz for its seventh season on Friday, June 16.

The cast dished to ABC Audio about the penultimate season of the popular show, which, Sophie Skelton says, they all assumed would be their last.

“I think the general consensus was that (season) 7 was going to be the last one,” Skelton said. “It’s just a bonus really, that we’re getting eight. And yeah, hopefully it just means that we get one last chance to sort of do these characters justice and tie up the beautiful stories.”

Sam Heughan says he has mixed emotions about the show’s story coming to its eventual end.

“We’re definitely really excited for the season. It’s a huge one. There’s a lot going on and there’s a lot more for the fans to look forward to,” Heughan said. “So, definitely mixed emotions. But yeah, plenty to look forward to before the end.”

And although they’re still promoting season 7, Caitriona Balfe is ready to get to work on that final season, where she will direct an episode.

“It’s something that I wanted to do for a while,” Balfe said. “To get the opportunity to work on this show with people that I love and respect and admire, it’s a real, real treat. So yeah, excited. Slightly nervous, but excited.”

With that excitement also comes some sadness. Balfe, like Heughan, says she has complicated feelings about the series coming to a close.

“The magnitude of what we’ve done and what’s going to be finishing, I think weighs heavily,” Balfe said. “It’s been such an amazing journey and it’s going to be really hard to just sort of let go of it.”

Pete Davidson was charged Friday, June 16, with a misdemeanor count of reckless driving after a March car crash into a Beverly Hills home, ABC News has learned.

The former SNL star was behind the wheel of his black Mercedes with his girlfriend and Bupkis co-star Chase Sui Wonders on the evening of March 4 when he lost control of the reportedly speeding vehicle, struck a fire hydrant and jumped a curb before the car impacted the side of the home.

In a statement, the Los Angeles County DA’s Office tells ABC News, “We believe that Mr. Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home. Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this collision.”

The statement continued, “We know that reckless driving can have devastating consequences. In 2022, traffic fatalities in Los Angeles have reached the highest levels seen in 20 years. This is an alarming trend that we cannot ignore. As a result, it’s crucial that we take all allegations of reckless driving seriously and hold those responsible accountable.”

Pete’s arraignment is set for July 27.

Although The Flash just ran into theaters officially Friday, June 16, its director has been tapped to helm another hot property in the DC Films library.

Variety says Andy Muschietti, who previously called the shots on the hit It movies, will be directing Batman: The Brave and the Bold. It’s the first official reboot of the character under co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s superhero unit of Warner Bros. Discovery.

In January, Gunn and Safran laid out their vision for the next decade of the studio’s DC Comics-based slate, with Gunn specifying that projects like Todd Philips‘ Oscar-winning Joker film and its sequel, as well as Robert Pattinson‘s continuing adventures as the Caped Crusader, will still exist as an “Elseworlds” specification: That is, outside of DC Films’ official timeline.

Gunn explained at the time that Brave and the Bold will be based on Grant Morrison‘s “exceptionally influential” comics run of the same name, which posited Bruce Wayne’s estranged assassin son Damian becomes Robin to his Batman.
