Former child star of Home Improvement Zachery Ty Bryan was released from an Oregon jail on Thursday morning, according to The Hollywood Reporter, after being arrested on July 28 following an altercation with the mother of three of his children.

Bryan has a court date of September 5 in the incident; he is facing fourth-degree assault and third-degree robbery charges, as well as a misdemeanor harassment claim.

The July arrest was the latest run-in with the law for the actor. Bryan was arrested in 2020 after a dispute with the same woman in this case, Johnnie Faye Cartwright. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors, which the trade reports were menacing and fourth-degree assault. He received three years of probation, was ordered not to contact the victim and was mandated to attend a violence-intervention program.

To the trade, Bryan insisted that case “got so blown out of proportion,” claiming it was a “loud” verbal fight, not a physical one. That said, the actor also has four DUIs on his record, and, as detailed in the THR piece, several of his former friends accused Bryan of defrauding them.

Jonathan Majors’ domestic violence trial delayed until September

Jonathan Majors will have his day in court on domestic violence charges, but not until September.

The Associated Press reports the Loki and Creed III star appeared during a brief hearing in Lower Manhattan Thursday, August 3, when prosecutors asked for more time to prepare.

In turn, the judge postponed the trial, setting a tentative date of September 6.

Majors was arrested in March after New York Police Department officers responded to a 911 call for an alleged domestic dispute at an apartment in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood. His accuser alleges he pulled her finger, twisted her arm behind her back, struck and cut her ear and pushed her into a vehicle, causing her to fall backward, during the March confrontation.

Majors was charged with two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault, second-degree aggravated harassment, second-degree harassment and third-degree attempted assault. His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, denied the allegations from the outset, saying the evidence would prove the actor is innocent.

In response to the setting of the trial date, Doug Cohen, a spokesman for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, said in a statement, “We look forward to presenting the full facts and evidence at trial.”

In an email Thursday, Chaudhry noted, “For an excruciating four months, Jonathan Majors, the real victim in this shameful ordeal, has had his life, career, and reputation torn apart. Yet he remains unwavering in his determination to be absolved from this harrowing ordeal.”

If convicted, the 33-year-old actor faces up to a year in jail.

While his Marvel character Sam Wilson struggled with the weight of taking the Captain America mantle, Anthony Mackie called it “really easy.”

In a chat with TheWrap before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the Twisted Metal star talked about the forthcoming Captain America: Brave New World, his first solo film succeeding Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers as the spangly hero.

“It kind of brought my Marvel experience full circle because we shot in D.C. at the same hotel that we shot Winter Soldier at,” Mackie said of his first Marvel movie from 2016. “So in that regard, it was really emotional to think how far my character has come and where he is now after the 10 years that I’ve been in the MCU.”

The actor explained, “These Marvel movies have kind of turned into summer camp. You go to set and there’s people that you’ve known for 10, 12 years now that you’ve worked with and got to know…So it’s like going back to see your old friends. So it was really easy.”

There was, however, one hiccup: getting over his nerves when acting opposite Harrison Ford, who plays President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

“Harrison was the f****** man, dude,” Mackie gushed, adding, “I was surprised how light-hearted and easy he was, how excited he was to be a part of it.”

Still, the actor admits, “I had this monologue and I just couldn’t get it right. I’m like, ‘I’m talking to Harrison Ford. This is crazy.'”

Mackie added, “But once we got our legs on us and we were like, ‘Oh, Harrison is just a cool dude,’ it made those scenes much easier.”

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for a July 26, 2024, release from Marvel Studios, which is owned by ABC News’ parent company Disney.

Gal Gadot says DC Films’ James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ with her

For those following the behind-the-scenes maneuvering as Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director James Gunn plots the future of the DC Films as co-CEO, Gal Gadot just raised some eyebrows.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran had explained they were rebooting the DC Comics-based films and other properties, which was one reason why Henry Cavill ‘s Black Adam post-credits return to the DCU was short-lived.

However, in an interview with ComicBook.com about her Netflix action film Heart of Stone, Gadot surprised fans by stating the pair were developing a third Wonder Woman movie with her reprising the character she’s since 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart,” Gadot said in an interview recorded before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

Gadot starred as the Amazonian goddess in her own blockbuster standalone film in 2017, directed by Patty Jenkins, but the pair’s 2020 follow-up, Wonder Woman 1984 wasn’t as well received.

In June, Gunn confirmed that the Superman: Legacy film he wrote and will be directing would star Hollywood‘s David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

This was apparently news to Gadot, who told the outlet, “I saw that they were…doing different screen tests, but I don’t know who got it, but it seemed like everyone was super legit and talented and, like, great. So I’m happy for them.”

She added, “It’s such a huge take-on and it’s such an exciting beginning to any actor, and I wish whoever it’s going to be the best of luck and enjoy the ride.”

Reese Witherspoon is officially closing a chapter of her life. She’s reportedly settled her divorce with her estranged husband, Jim Toth, just four months after she first filed.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Reese and Jim both put pen to paper on a marital dissolution agreement. They also worked out a parenting plan for their 10-year-old son Tennessee James, though the exact details remain unknown for now. Typically, the agreement will be presented to the judge for approval, which is usually just a formality.

Reese announced their decision to part ways amicably back in late March, after 12 years of marriage. She officially filed for divorce a week later, mentioning the prenup they had in place.

This marks Reese’s second divorce, having previously split from Ryan Phillippe in 2008 after a nine-year marriage. Reese and Ryan had two children together, daughter Ava Phillippe, 23, and 19-year-old son Deacon Phillippe.

‘Haunted Mansion’ director Justin Simien on the film’s “radical” feature

Disney

Disney’s Haunted Mansion isn’t just a scary comedy based on a theme park ride, it’s also a radical portrayal of a Black man’s grief — that’s according to film director Justin Simien.

In the film, LaKeith Stanfield plays Travis, a character dealing with the loss of his wife, who bonds deeply with a child who lost his father. Stanfield is emotional, vulnerable — several times there are close-ups of his tear-stained face — something Simien tells ABC Audio is rarely seen on screen.

“It’s a Black man feeling his feelings. But it’s also a Black man extending a hand to a younger Black man and being a father figure … the character that Lakeith plays probably never had,” he explains. “And he is sort of … giving something that he so desperately is needing from the world. And I just feel like that was really radical.”

Simien identified deeply with Travis, noting, “I grew up without my father. He passed when I was very young and so I was and am Travis.”

Haunted Mansion opened last weekend to less than stellar box office numbers, but in the interview, done on the Friday of the film’s release, he told ABC Audio that he predicted the actors strike would affect the film’s bottom line because you didn’t see stars Jamie Lee CurtisRosario DawsonOwen Wilson and more on the morning shows and late-night talk shows during the week leading up to the film’s release.

“It deeply hurts the film to not have the actors there,” he explains. “But at the same time, I think that that’s important for studios to recognize what happens when you don’t have your actors out in front promoting movies.”
