For a movie spawned from a doll line, Barbie is, in turn, spawning dolls from the billion dollar-plus grossing movie.

On Mattel’s website, you can not only scoop up more traditional looking dolls, like one based on Issa Rae‘s President Barbie, fans can now get their hands on Kate McKinnon‘s Weird Barbie.

According to the film, McKinnon’s character has been put through the ringer by an overaggressive owner with a badly chopped ‘do and magic marker lines on her face.

While the Barbie version is arguably more glamorous than McKinnon’s presentation onscreen, it still features the magic marker face tats, colorful clothes and her self-described “funky haircut.” It’s not known, however, if it “smells like basement,” like the SNL vet describes herself in the movie.

Matthew Broderick says he “made peace” with his legacy as Ferris Bueller

Matthew Broderick has appeared in dozens of plays and movies since playing grifter Ferris Bueller in the 1986 John Hughes movie that bears the character’s name, but the Tony winner can’t shake him.

Nowadays, he’s OK with that, he told The Guardian in an interview just before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. “What’s my legacy?” he asked himself, “Well, I’m Ferris Bueller, I suppose. I have to accept it. And I like it. I’ve made my peace with it.”

The actor explained, “I did have nice early success. But it’s not easy to maintain that first flush. It’s always a hard adjustment for child actors, young actors. People see the kid out of Leave It to Beaver grown up and they don’t buy it – they want to see little Beaver.”

Broderick added, “People associated me with younger roles, but I wanted them to come with me and get used to the fact that I’m wrinkly. And it was hard. The 90s were hard. Lots of ups and downs. But I always tried to keep at it, keep my heart in it. Hopefully that keeps you in the game.”

The actor also said, “I always wanted to have a long career. And it’s been 40 years, so I guess I must have done something right.”

To that end, Broderick is plotting a West End stage run alongside his wife, Sarah Jessica Parker, once again in Plaza Suite, the Neil Simon classic that brought the pair together last year on Broadway.

“I admire her so much,” Broderick said of his costar in the play and in life. “Never mind personally – loving her and all that – but I admire her acting, too…She’s as sharp as can be. She’s got real chops.”

Angus Cloud‘s mother is speaking out about the Euphoria star’s sudden death on July 31.

The family’s initial statement did not disclose the 25-year-old actor’s cause of death, it did acknowledge his struggle with mental health and the recent death of his father.

However, in a Facebook post on Friday, Lisa Cloud tried to dispel rumors circulating on social media that her son intentionally took his own life, insisting Angus, “was “joyful” despite the recent family tragedy.

She added that her son “spoke of his intent to help provide for his sisters at college” and help her through the tragedy “emotionally and financially.”

“He did not intend to end his life,” she wrote. “When we hugged goodnight we said how much we loved each other and he said he would see me in the morning. I don’t know if or what he may have put in his body after that. I only know that he put his head on the desk where he was working on art project’s [sic], fell asleep, and didn’t wake up.”

She went on to say that although “we may find out that he overdosed accidentally and tragically,” it remains “abundantly clear that he did not intend to check out of this world.”

“His struggles were real,” Lisa Cloud wrote. “He gave and received so much love and support to and from his tribe. His work in Euphoria became a lightning rod for his generation and opened up a conversation about compassion, loyalty, acceptance, and love.”

On Sunday, the Greta Gerwig-directed movie, Barbie, reached $1,031,481,000 at the worldwide box office, making her the first solo female director to cross the $1 billion plateau.

Three films co-directed by women have crossed the $1 billion mark, according to The Numbers, a film industry data website that tracks box office revenue — Frozen and Frozen II were co-directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, and Captain Marvel, was co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

Barbie continued to dominate the North American box office, delivering an estimated $53 million in its third week of release. That brings its domestic tally to $459 million.

Meg 2: The Trench opened in second place with an estimated $30 million at the domestic box office — a decent start, though well below the original 2018 film’s $45 million debut. The sequel added an estimated $112 million overseas for a global total of $142 million.

As the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes roll on, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass weighed in on Friday, August 4.

“Communication reopening between representatives of the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is an encouraging development, especially as this historic moment continues to have profoundly negative impacts on our economy and many of our community members,” she began.

Bass called it an “important inflection point for our city’s signature industry” that “has caused ripple effects throughout our economy as well as that of the state and the country … from the writers and actors on the picket line trying to make ends meet to keep a roof over their head and food on the table, to businesses who rely on the entertainment industry.”

In this day of streaming and artificial intelligence — among the main sticking points of the striking writers and actors — Bass added, “The economic conditions of the entertainment industry are changing — and we must react and evolve to this challenge.”

She called it “critical that this gets resolved immediately so that Los Angeles gets back on track,” adding, “I stand ready to personally engage with all the stakeholders in any way possible to help get this done.”

The “reckoning” over TV networks’ treatment of reality show stars that Real Housewives vet Bethenny Frankel warned about weeks ago “has arrived,” according to A-list attorneys Mark Geragos and Bryan Freedman.

The pair, whose clients included Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, sent a letter to NBC on behalf of their new clients, “current and former cast members and crew members on some of NBC’s most lucrative reality shows.”

The attorneys claim those they represent suffered “grotesque and depraved mistreatment” on shows that air on NBC, E!, CNBC and Bravo, according to the missive that was obtained Friday, August 4, by ABC Audio.

While not naming specific shows, the attorneys claim that “these individuals have been mentally, physically, and financially victimized” by show producers, which they accuse of orchestrating “deliberate attempts to manufacture mental instability” in their casts.

The network is accused of “plying cast members with alcohol while depriving them of food and sleep,” as well as “denying mental health treatment for those displaying obvious and alarming signs of mental deterioration,” according to the letter.

The shows are also accused of “exploiting minors” who aren’t compensated for appearing on the programs, and “distributing and/or condoning the distribution of non-consensual pornography,” the “distribution of revenge porn” and the “covering up of sexual violence,” according to the letter sent to NBC’s legal counsel.

The letter is calling on NBC and its affiliated networks to preserve evidence in the event of possible litigation.

The “sordid underbelly of NBC’s widely consumed reality TV universe has remained under wraps for too long. Please be advised that the day of reckoning has arrived,” the statement warned.
