On Wednesdays we learn more about the upcoming Mean Girls movie-musical.

Tina Fey and the cast of the new film chat about the original 2004 hit and how it inspired this updated take in a featurette released Wednesday, December 13.

“Over the years, I’ve realized that these characters and this story have had a much longer shelf life than anyone anticipated,” Fey says. “For this new movie, how can we surprise and delight people who are already familiar with the story?”

Fey, who wrote, produced and reprises her role as Ms. Norbury in the film, says they strove to do just that with updates that bring the story to the present day.

“It felt like we could have the best of both worlds with great music, new jokes and the look to be updated but also nod to the original,” Fey said.

The featurette also shows off the movie’s musical moments. Several choreography-heavy scenes are featured in a montage, as well as line from the song, “Meet the Plastics,” sung by this adaptation’s Regina George, Reneé Rapp.

“I don’t care who you are/ I don’t care how you feel,” Rapp sings.

The featurette also shows off examples of the film’s updated jokes. Bebe Wood delivers Gretchen Wieners’ most iconic line, this time with a meta twist. “That is so fetch!” she enthusiastically tells Angourie Rice’s Cady Heron.

“What is fetch?” Rapp’s Regina immediately questions, to which Wood’s Gretchen answers: “It’s, like, slang from an old movie.”

It may be hard to believe, but we’re 20 years out from the original film, although Rapp says the story is fresh as ever.

“Twenty years later, it’s just as poppin’ as it was when it came out,” Rapp said.

Mean Girls arrives in theaters everywhere on January 12.

Diversion Books

Tiffany Haddish is ready to share her side of the story.

She’ll open up about the highs and lows of her personal life and entertainment career in a new tell-all book, slated for release in May.

I Curse You With Joy, a collection of essays and stories by Haddish, will delve into the lasting effects of her childhood trauma and the challenges of being a Black woman in entertainment, as well as the “bittersweet” reunion with her estranged father after nearly two decades apart.

“This book is me … The good, the bad, the ugly and of course the funny,” Haddish said. “The wig is off. I’m not wearing any makeup.”

The book announcement follows the comedian’s DUI arrest in Beverly Hills in November. She told Entertainment Tonight of the incident in which she apparently fell asleep at the wheel, “I’m going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries.”

“I’m so excited to share the rollercoaster of success that I’ve been on with my readers, and to show them that just because I’m famous, that doesn’t mean I’m not human,” Haddish told People. “I find the joy in the hardest things in life which you’ll all be able to read about in this new book.”

I Curse You With Joy will be released by Diversion Books on May 7. An accompanying audio version, read by Haddish, will be available for listening the same day.

Bradley Cooper was joined by a few special guests at the premiere his new film, Maestro, in Los Angeles Tuesday night.

Cooper, who directed, co-wrote and stars in the film as famed American composer Leonard Bernstein, was photographed with his 6-year-old daughter, Lea De Seine, and his A Star Is Born co-star Lady Gaga at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on December 12.

The father-daughter duo held hands as they posed for photos on the black carpet, with Cooper wearing a sharp suit. Lea, whom Cooper shares with ex Irina Shayk, wore a leopard dress.

Cooper was then photographed with Lady Gaga and his co-star Carey Mulligan. Mulligan plays Bernstein’s wife, Felicia Montealegre, in the film.

Like A Star Is Born before it, Maestro has been creating buzz this awards season.

The film recently received four nominations at the 2024 Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Mulligan, as well as Best Director and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Cooper.

Maestro is now playing in select theaters and will be available to stream on Netflix beginning December 20.

The 75th annual Emmy Awards have found their host in Anthony Anderson.

The black-ish actor and 11-time Emmy nominee will host the live ceremony, which airs January 15 on Fox. It will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.

Originally meant to air in September, the Emmys were postponed due to this year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Anderson made note of this in a statement on Wednesday.

“With our industry’s recent challenges behind us, we can get back to what we love — dressing up and honoring ourselves. And there’s no better celebratory moment to bring the creative community together than the milestone 75th Emmy Awards,” Anderson said.

He also referenced Time’s 2023 Person of the Year, Taylor Swift.

“When Fox asked me to host this historic telecast, I was over the moon that Taylor Swift was unavailable,” Anderson said. “I can’t wait to be part of the biggest night in television.”

Warner Bros.

The 2024 Critics Choice Awards film nominations are here, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie leads the pack with 18 nods.

This doubles the amount of Golden Globe nominations the film received on Monday, coming away with recognition in all the major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for star Margot Robbie and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of Ken. These 18 nominations break the all-time record for the most that any film has received in the entire 29-year history of the organization.

Oppenheimer and Poor Things tie for the second-most nominations with 13 each, followed closely by Martin Scorsese‘s Killers of the Flower Moon, which earned 11.

The Critics Choice Awards are voted on by a group of broadcast, print and digital journalists. They don’t share crossover membership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, though the televised ceremony does give its winners and nominees a platform as they contend with the rest of awards season.

The 2024 Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler, will air January 14 on The CW.

Hollywood paid tribute to Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide: Life on the Street actor Andre Braugher following the news of his death at 61 on Monday, December 11, after a brief illness.

Fox, which aired the first five seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, wrote in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, “Everyone at FOX is devastated by the sudden loss of our friend and colleague, the incredibly talented Andre Braugher. He will most certainly be remembered for his iconic comedic and dramatic roles across both film and television, but he will be remembered mostly for his big heart, kindness and the lasting impact he made on his friends, family and fans everywhere. Andre was the heart and soul of the Nine-Nine and will forever be our Captain. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Andre’s family and loved ones at this time.”

Another statement obtained by the outlet was from Reed Diamond, Braugher’s Homicide co-star, who called him “an inspiration as a man, and as an actor.”

” … [L]ike everyone else, was blown away by his power and talent. But, honestly what I most remember, and have always tried to emulate, was who he was as a father and as a husband. He always seemed to have what was most important in this life figured out.”

Braugher’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Terry Crews, shared on Instagram, “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon.”

Niecy Nash-Betts, who also appeared on the sitcom, shared on Instagram, “RIP @andrebraugher we so much fun on set of @brooklyn99 when I played his sister. Just a real cool guy….. my deepest condolences to his friends & family.”

“Always our Captain. We love you, Andre,” the official Peacock and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Instagram accounts shared.

Marc Evan Jackson, who played Braugher’s onscreen husband on the cop show, shared a touching photo of the two on X, formally known as Twitter, and wrote, “O Captain. My Captain.”

The Residence producer Shonda Rhimes captioned a photo of Braugher on Instagram that she was “deeply saddened by the news” of his death. “I mourn not only the loss of an extraordinary actor but, more profoundly, the departure of a warm and kind soul. His talent was undeniable, but it was his genuine kindness that truly set him apart. Rest well,” Rhimes added.

Next to a black-and-white pic of himself and Braugher on Instagram, Nick Cannon wrote, “A Brilliant and Beautiful Soul! Now Set Free! To be absent from the Body is to be present with the Lord! Rest in Paradise King.”

Snowfall actor Amin Joseph wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Andre Braugher set the standard – a phenomenal man both on and off the screen. Inside the frame he was that of an absolute beast, while off-camera, he was a giving teacher and a true legend. His respect and humility were infectious, inspiring us to be better people and actors.”

David Simon, author of Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, the book on which Homicide: Life on the Street was based, shared, “ … I’ve worked with a lot of wonderful actors. I’ll never work with one better. Stunned and thinking of Ami and his sons and so many memories of this good man that are now a blessing. But too damn soon.”

Today‘s Al Roker praised Braugher for his “honesty and integrity.”

Emmy-winning actor Andre Braugher, who starred in the hit television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide: Life on the Street, has died at 61.

Braugher died on Monday after a brief illness his longtime rep, Jennifer Allen, confirmed to ABC News.

Born in Chicago, Braugher graduated from Stanford University. He then attended Juilliard School in the drama division, receiving a Master of Fine Art.

His first film role was Edward Zwick‘s 1989 Oscar-winning-drama Glory, where he starred alongside Denzel Washington, Matthew Broderick and Morgan Freeman.

Braugher first made a name for himself playing Kojak’s sidekick Det. Winston Blake in six TV movie revivals of Kojak, between 1989-90, but landed breakout success in 1993 as Det. Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street.

His portrayal of Det. Pembleton earned him two Emmy nominations as well as a win in 1998, and two Television Critics Association Awards in 1997 and 1998 for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

More recently, he gained acclaim for playing the no-nonsense Captain Raymond Holt in the procedural comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Braugher starred in the comedy alongside Andy Samberg for eight seasons.

Braugher received four Emmy nominations and won two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for playing Capt. Holt.

The actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, remembered Braugher as a “dynamic performer in drama& comedy,” shortly after his passing was announced, saying, “He will be deeply missed.”

Braugher is survived by his wife Ami Brabson, who also played his character’s wife on Homicide, and their three sons.
