The world of public radio gets animated in Zach Woods’ new Peacock series In the Know.

Woods stars in, executive produces and serves as the showrunner of the stop-motion animated series that he created, which he described as quite personal to him.

“It’s born of a love of public radio and a hatred for myself,” Woods said. “I grew up listening to public radio all the time. [It] was always on at my house. Like, when I hear the All Things Considered theme, I can smell the cucumbers that one of my parents is cutting in the kitchen … I have very, like, Pavlovian connections to public radio.”

The show also satirizes what Woods describes as the hypocritical nature of some parts of the liberal elite. To describe what he means, he told a story about walking through Los Angeles’ Larchmont neighborhood. He saw something in the front yard of a $4 million home.

“There’s a sign on the front lawn that said, ‘Defund the police.’ And then, right next to it, was an ADT home security armed guard detail. So, it’s like, they want it to be, like, defund the police, but also, we have, like, paid mercenaries who will protect our home with guns,” Woods said.

His character in the show, third-most-popular NPR radio host Lauren Caspian, has both a timid demeanor and a huge ego. Woods said he knows the type well.

“It reminds me of small liberal arts colleges in the middle of nowhere where everyone is so educated and genteel in their way, but they stab each other in the back with a dagger to get tenure over that a****** down the hall,” Woods said. “I think that’s kind of funny.”

A “beyond proud” Eva Mendes took to Instagram Wednesday afternoon to clap back at those who once derided her longtime partner Ryan Gosling for taking the role of Ken in Barbie.

The movie has since become a cultural phenomenon and was the highest-grossing movie of 2023 — and the recipient of eight Oscar nominations, including one for Gosling as Best Supporting Actor.

To a screen grab of a 2022 Rolling Stone article titled in part “Ryan Gosling Is Giving Major Cringe as Ken in ‘Barbie,'” Mendes said, “So much hate when he took on this role.”

She continued, “So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars.”

Mendes, 49, said of the 43-year-old Gosling, “So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie.”

Her post got tons of support online — including from Ryan’s Barbie co-star, Supporting Actress Oscar nominee America Ferrera.

She praised his “triple somersault performance,” adding, “I’m so grateful for the way he showed up with his super stardom, and continues to show up to support all the women in this process!! He is a class act and insanely deserving and talented.”

Mendes excitedly responded to that reply in both English and Spanish, calling America a sister and congratulating the “queen” for her own nomination.

Saturday Night Live has announced that the everything-winning lead of The Bear, Ayo Edebiri, will host the sketch show for the first time on February 3.

Jennifer Lopez will return to Studio 8H for the seventh time on the installment — her fourth time as musical guest of the show, which she’s also hosted three times — ahead of the February 16 release of her new record, This Is Me … Now.

While it will be her first time as host, Edebiri should be a good fit for SNL. Before landing her role as Sydney Adamu in The Bear, for which she recently won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy, she was a stand-up comedian and comedy writer, and incidentally a former collaborator with SNL writer and viral “Please Don’t Destroy” video creator Ben Marshall.

Prime Video reported Wednesday that the upcoming third season of its hit original series Reacher will be based on Persuader, the seventh book in author Lee Child‘s bestselling Jack Reacher series.

Child is also an executive producer of the show, starring Alan Ritchson as his hulking hero.

According to Prime Video, in the third installment, “Reacher must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past.”

Production of the third season is already underway in Toronto. The show was renewed for a third chapter in December, two weeks before the sophomore season debuted on the streamer.

In its announcement, Prime Video also revealed that Maria Sten will return in the third season as Jack Reacher’s ally Frances Neagley.

On Wednesday, Comedy Central announced that Jon Stewart will return to host The Daily Show on Mondays during the run-up to the 2024 presidential election.

His once-a-week return begins Monday, February 12. He’ll also serve as executive producer of the award-winning show throughout the week.

“Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility. Excited for the future!” Stewart snarked on X, formerly Twitter, adding his stats as if he were an athlete.

The stand-up and Emmy-winning former host left the news and entertainment show in 2015.

In a statement, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios President and CEO Chris McCarthy said, “Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return … to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season.”

He added, “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

For the rest of the week’s episodes, The Daily Show will continue with its rotating roster of guest hosts, as it’s done since former host Trevor Noah left the program in 2022.

The Daily Show‘s producers had been looking for a permanent host to take Noah’s place but recently decided against that. Now, it appears this could have been their reasoning behind that.

Ryan Reynolds — and Dogpool — post that ‘Deadpool 3’ has wrapped

While they apparently disagree about who was worse to work with, Ryan Reynolds and his canine co-star Dogpool agreed via Instagram that Deadpool 3 has officially wrapped.

With a shot of his crotch in his red costume — a callback to an early scene in the 2016 original — Reynolds posted, “The suit hides the blood. Also sweat… But today, with Deadpool wrapping, it’s mostly tears.”

He continued, “A giant and forever thanks to the cast and crew of our film who battled wind, rain, strikes and @thehughjackman… all under the stalwart leadership of [director Shawn Levy].

As reported, work on the anticipated threequel was paused in July after the SAG strike was declared; it resumed in November.

Ryan concluded by saying, “I got to make a movie with my closest pals and that doesn’t happen very often. See ya July 26th.”

For her part, his dog-eared colleague also posted an in-costume shot, with a computer-generated flower to protect her modesty as her super suit has no bottoms.

“That’s a wrap on my first movie!” the photo was captioned. “We worked our pants off but it was worth it.”

Dogpool continued, “Everyone on set was the utmost professional, especially Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. And a super-hero big bow-wow-WOW to the entire crew. No matter the challenge, you rose to the task and made it look easy. I wouldn’t change a thing. Except maybe one person who was a little extra to deal with,” he said, hinting at Reynolds.

“But don’t worry, I’ve forgiven him,” the mutt concluded. “I even left him a very special warm, personal gift in his trailer.”

Deadpool 3 was produced by 20th Century Studios, which, like ABC News, is owned by Disney.

While Netflix is so far mum, groundbreaking HBO series Sex and the City is heading to the platform, according to The New York Times.

All six seasons’ worth of the adventures of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha can be currently streamed by Max subscribers, but in a licensing deal, HBO will reportedly loan out the series to its streaming competitor beginning in April.

That said, SATC‘s hit follow-up show, And Just Like That…, will remain exclusive to Max.

The paper points out that HBO had kept its library of shows exclusive until 2023, when it struck a deal to have many of its titles, including Band of Brothers, Entourage, Six Feet Under and others, available to Netflix subscribers.

Viewers responded: Many of the shows jumped to the top of Netflix’s most-watched lists.

Add John Stamos and his wife, Caitlin McHugh, to the list of Hollywood names who were miffed that Barbie director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie were snubbed by Tuesday’s Oscar nominations.

As an Instagrammed tribute, Stamos and McHugh reenacted the memorable scene from the movie in which Ken and Barbie part ways in Los Angeles — lip syncing the dialog between Ryan Gosling and Robbie.

While McHugh tends to the gardening around their home, Stamos as Ken pouts from an Adirondack chair, “What am I supposed to do?” — to which an exasperated McHugh as Barbie growls, “KEN! Go for a walk or something!”

“By myself? Really?” Stamos continues. He’s then seen popping around their property, eventually ending up in a tree.

About the skit, the Full House star expressed, “This one goes out to Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie who crafted a film that was both a critical success and a cultural phenomenon, delving into feminist themes through the lens of Barbie and challenging patriarchal norms.”

He continued, “This movie not only resonated deeply but also grossed OVER a billion dollars. Yet, in a twist of irony, both women were snubbed by the Academy. Everyone go re-watch Barbie tonight.”

As mentioned, Robbie and Gerwig’s nominated collaborators expressed their own frustrations with the snubs, with Gosling calling the pair “the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film.”

Similarly, Best Supporting Actress nominee America Ferrera also expressed her unhappiness, saying she was “incredibly disappointed” that they were ignored. “Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it,” she continued.

“What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable,” Ferrera vented, adding, “Perhaps people got fooled into thinking that the work seems easy.”

Ryan Gosling is speaking out about Tuesday’s Oscar nominations.

On Tuesday, the Barbie actor landed a Best Supporting Actor nomination for the 96th Academy Awards for his role as Ken in the box office movie. But, while he expressed his gratitude for the nod, the actor also took the opportunity to share his disappointment that director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie were snubbed from two Oscar categories — best director and best actress.

In a statement obtained by ABC News, Gosling said, “I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films.”

“And I never thought I’d [be] saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken,” he continued. “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film.”

“No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius,” his statement continued.

“To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling added.

“Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history,” he said. “Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.”

Gosling went on to say he was “so happy for America Ferrera,” who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, “and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film.”

Despite the snubs in the two main categories for Gerwig and Robbie, Barbie earned eight nominations, including Best Picture.
