‘The Crown’ reportedly casts William and Kate for season 6

Elizabeth Debecki as Princess Diana in ‘The Crown’, Season 5 – Netflix

As The Crown rolls through the years, season 6 will apparently show a teen Prince William and his eventual wife, Kate Middleton.

Variety reports 16-year-old newcomer Rufus Kampa and 21-year-old Ed McVey have been cast as William in two points of his life; Kate Middleton will be portrayed by lookalike Meg Bellamy. The trade reports Kampa and Bellamy were found via an online casting call.

The fifth season of The Crown, which drops on Netflix in November, features Tenet‘s Elizabeth Debciki‘s as Princess Diana, Prince William and Harry‘s mother, and focuses on her tumultuous marriage to Prince Charles, played by Dominic West.

Princess Diana was killed in a car crash with her companion Dodi Fayed on August 31, 1997, when William was 15, the trade reasons, so it’s likely the season will cover the time span of the late ’90s to the early 2000s. William met Kate in 2001 when they were both students at Scotland’s St. Andrew’s University.

The Crown‘s cast also includes Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

At Venice Film Fest, Timothée Chalamet warns of “societal collapse,” rails against social media

Elisabetta A. Villa/Getty Images

While promoting his controversial cannibal road trip film Bones and All at the Venice Film Festival Friday, Timothée Chalamet took aim at the “onslaught” of social media.

“To be young now, and to be young whenever — I can only speak for my generation — is to be intensely judged,” 26-year-old Chalamet said, according to Variety.

“I can’t imagine what it is to grow up with the onslaught of social media, and it was a relief to play characters who are wrestling with an internal dilemma absent the ability to go on Reddit, or Twitter, Instagram or TikTok and figure out where they fit in,” he continued.

The Dune star added, “I have a little brother who’s 19, 20-ish, and thinking about him in this world, and the self-judgement and judgment of others that people seem so flooded with every day in such a drastic and severe way is so scary, because the hope is that you can find your own compass within all of it and that seems like a difficult task now.”

The actor expressed he’s not “casting judgment” on those who use social media, but he opined, “I think it’s hard to be alive now. I think societal collapse is in the air…”

Based on Camille DeAngelis‘ 2015 book of the same name, Bones and All has a U.S. release date of November 23.

Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears sued for child molestation; both comedians deny accusations

ABC/Eric McCandless

Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears are being sued for allegedly sexually molesting a child in Los Angeles. Both comedians are denying the accusations.

A woman identified as Jane Doe sued Haddish and Spears in California’s Superior Court for Los Angeles County on behalf of a minor identified as John Doe, People reports. Haddish’s attorney says the complaint has no merit.

“Plaintiff’s mother, Trizah Morris, has been trying to assert these bogus claims against Ms. Haddish for several years,” Haddish’s lawyer said in a statement. “Every attorney who has initially taken on her case — and there were several — ultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless and Ms. Haddish would not be shaken down.”

In a separate statement, Spears’ lawyer said that he “isn’t going to fall for any shakedown.”

The lawsuit alleges that John Doe was molested by Spears in 2014 when he was 7 years old.

Court documents claim that Haddish told him he would be taping a reel for Nickelodeon at Spears’ home. She then witnessed the alleged incident “and aided, abetted, and watched Spears sexually molest a child,” according to the filing.

Haddish and Spears are being sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress, gross negligence, sexual battery, sexual harassment and sexual abuse of a minor.

Bob Odenkirk “wants to do more action” now that ‘Better Call Saul’ has come to an end

Greg Lewis/AMC/Sony Pictures Television

(NOTE LANGUAGE) Bob Odenkirk addressed the Venice Film Festival via video from Los Angeles Friday, and he explained he wants some action now that Better Call Saul is over.

According to Deadline, Odenkirk spoke fondly of his 2021 hit Nobody, in which he played a seemingly boring suburban dad who goes all John Wick on his enemies.

“I was very surprised by Nobody,” the actor explained. “I had initiated that project because I had a feeling that the character I was developing in Better Call Saul was the kind of character you see in an action film. He has earnest desires and he was willing to sacrifice himself…”

Odenkirk continued, “I still train multiple times a week and if I get my way you’re going to see me doing more action. I found the action sequences a great deal of fun and close to doing sketch comedy…I love the early Jackie Chan films which had humor in them. I’d like to get that in in future.”

Odenkirk also shared what he thought was the secret behind the success of Nobody, which director David Leitch has said has a sequel in the works: “It’s almost like people like to see older people lose their s***,” he said. “Why does that seem to make sense to everyone? It’s funny.”

When asked to look back at Better Call Saul weeks after the show’s highly-rated finale, Odenkirk said, “I have very mixed feelings. It was a long time to play one guy and portray his psyche…”

He added of his Saul Goodman, “that’ll be the role I’ll be known for my whole life. And I’m proud of that.”

Tennis legend John McEnroe on his infamous outbursts and new Showtime documentary

Courtesy of SHOWTIME

John McEnroe is having a bit of a moment.

The tennis legend has been narrating Devi’s ups and downs on the popular Netflix comedy series Never Have I Ever for three seasons now, but in the new Showtime documentary McEnroe, he’s finally telling his own story. He tells ABC Audio all about what it was like to get introspective about his life and career.

“I was a little bit like, why the hell did they wanna do something about me? I’m sixty plus years old,” McEnroe says. “And so, you’re flattered I guess. I suppose I was in a way that people still care enough to do something and commit to doing it.”

The documentary was not afraid to dive deep into McEnroe’s infamous on-court outbursts, with the athlete noting that he’s not exactly sure where his anger comes from but that he does have an idea.

“Growing up in New York City is a high-octane type of energy. Bustling through the subways and the trains, there’s an energy that you’re just used to,” McEnroe says. “I had a loud dinner table.”

Even to this day, McEnroe says he still gets mad when he thinks about some of the calls that set him off during matches.

“Half these people that were on the court calling the lines, they’d be falling asleep or they’d be old people. I’m like, how the hell that people think that they can see it better than I can see it? I’ve got 20-15 vision, and these people are insisting that I’ve gotten it wrong every time,” McEnroe says. “You know, I’ve got to be right once in a while.”

McEnroe is available to stream now on Showtime.

‘Aquaman’ series star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II calls acting in comic book movies “clown work”

Randy Holmes/ABC via Getty Images

Yahya Abdul-Mateen starred opposite Jason Momoa in the billion-dollar-grossing Aquaman as the baddie David Kane/Manta, but he says superhero movies ironically don’t require a lot of heavy lifting — at least from an acting perspective.

“Everything should be about getting to the truth. But sometimes you got to know which movie or genre you’re in,” he tells Vulture.

“Something like Aquaman, that’s clown work,” he says, comparing another one of his films. “Aquaman is not The Trial of the Chicago 7. You gotta get over yourself.”

That said, the star says that like any good villain does, even a comic book gig can let an actor hide some good tricks up his sleeve.

“In order to survive and to do it well, you have to play that game and then be crafty about when you want to surprise the audience, the director, or yourself with a little bit of ‘Wow, I didn’t expect to see a Chekhovian thing or August Wilson and Aquaman, but I did,” he continues.

Abdul-Mateen is debuting soon on Broadway with the revival of Suzan-Lori Parks‘ Pulitzer-winning Topdog/Underdog opposite Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins. In 2023, he’ll appear again as Manta in the sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Lindsay Lohan to star in Netflix rom com ‘Irish Wish’

Good Morning America

Lindsay Lohan‘s second project in her deal with Netflix has just been announced. The streaming service behind LiLo’s upcoming holiday film Falling for Christmas just announced she will star in a romantic comedy called Irish Wish.

Lohan will reteam with her Christmas movie director Janeen Damian for the project. She’ll take on the role of Maddie, who sees the love of her life getting engaged to her best friend.

“Maddie puts her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at their wedding in Ireland,” the producers explain, but just before the pair are set to marry, “Maddie makes a spontaneous wish for true love, only to wake up as the bride-to-be.”

“With her dream seeming to come true, Maddie soon realizes that her real soulmate is someone else entirely,” Netflix teases.

In February of this year and with her legal troubles in the rearview mirror, Lohan told Good Morning America she was ready for a comeback. “I think it takes time — just really a lot of soul-searching and taking time for you,” she explained. “And really, a lot of it was change of scenery, people, places and things — a lot of that made a big difference.”

Lindsay added, “Not filming for so long and not, you know, making movies for a long time, especially during the pandemic, that really made me appreciate it more and miss it so much more that I knew I was ready to come back.”

‘Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman’ stars Jane Seymour and Joe Lando reunite for Lifetime’s ‘A Christmas Spark’

Lifetime

No, it’s not a Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman reboot, but it’s close: ABC Audio has confirmed that Jane Seymour and her former co-star Joe Lando are getting back together for a Lifetime Christmas movie.

As part of the network’s It’s A Wonderful Lifetime line-up, the Toni Braxton-produced A Christmas Spark will bring the actors back together in a romantic movie that will have Seymour playing recently widowed Molly, “who has lost her zest for life and given up on ever finding love again.”

Lifetime teases, “But when she decides to visit her daughter for Christmas, she has no idea what holiday magic is in store for her. A former drama teacher, Molly reluctantly takes on the job of directing the town’s Christmas pageant and soon finds herself falling for her leading man, Hank (Lando), the town’s most eligible bachelor.”

As the unlikely pair finds love, Molly, “rediscovers her inner free spirit and finds a new lease on life…”

The project is among a trio of new holiday movies announced Thursday by the network, including Kirk Franklin’s The Night Before Christmas starring Grammy winner Franklin and Power‘s Naturi Naughton, and Merry Swissmas starring Full House‘s Jodie Sweetin and David Pinard.

Debuting on November 5, Merry Swissmas kicks off Lifetime’s holiday movie season; the full schedule will be revealed later in the fall.

Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor reportedly among latest cuts at ‘SNL’

NBC/Will Heath

There are more changes afoot at Rockefeller Center’s famous Studio 8H.

Deadline reports that full-time Saturday Night Live cast members Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor won’t be back for season 48 of the Emmy-winning sketch show. Both characters were named featured players at SNL in 2016.

In that time, Villaseñor, who was the show’s second Latina cast member, became noted for her facility with impressions of Kristen Wiig, Dolly Parton, Lady Gaga among others, while Moffat was a utility player who played Eric Trump but was possibly best known for playing the smarmy preppie Guy Who Just Bought a Boat.

The trade also reports that newcomer Aristotle Athari won’t be back when SNL returns on NBC on October 2.

In May, it was announced that Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney and Aidy Bryant would be leaving the show.
