In May, NBC will celebrate 10 years of viral Classroom Instruments remixes, celebrity Water Wars and Whisper Challenges with an anniversary salute to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The special airs May 14 at 9 p.m. ET and will stream the next day on Peacock.

“To be able to sit in the same chair as the iconic hosts before me, it’s been my absolute honor to be a part of The Tonight Show for the last 10 years,” Fallon said in a statement.

“I want to thank all the viewers who have laughed with me, inspired me, and come along for what has been the most joyful journey of my life. I still pinch myself every day and am so appreciative of the opportunity to stand alongside the giants of our business who have made their mark on this great television institution.”

In a statement, NBC notes that the television event will feature “a look back at the many unforgettable moments that have defined the show’s legacy, viral hits, favorite sketches, musical performances and interviews that have shaped our culture.”

Mark Lazarus, the chairman of the NBCUniversal Media Group, saluted Fallon’s leadership of the top-rated late night show, adding, “Jimmy has broadened The Tonight Show with his signature brand of humor and continues to deliver laughs to millions of people night after night. We couldn’t be prouder that this iconic NBC show bears Jimmy’s name.”

With the Oscars fast approaching, online casino site USBets has compiled a list of what records could be broken on March 10.

For example, if Cillian Murphy wins Best Actor for Oppenheimer, he’d be the first Ireland-born actor to do so, the site explains, noting three-time winner Daniel Day-Lewis is of Irish descent but was born in London.

Killers of the Flower Moon Best Actress nominee Lily Gladstone could become the first Indigenous woman to nab the prize.

Her co-star, Best Supporting Actor nominee Robert De Niro, could snag a third acting Oscar, something only seven other performers have done.

Also, if Martin Scorsese wins Best Director for Flower Moon at 81, he’d best then-74-year-old Clint Eastwood‘s 2005 record for the oldest filmmaker to win Best Director when he won for Million Dollar Baby.

And also in the “age is just a number” category, 92-year-old John Williams could become the oldest-ever winner of a competitive Oscar if the composer snags a sixth trophy for scoring Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The record is currently held by James Ivory, who was 89 when he won the Best Adapted Screenplay trophy for 2017’s Call Me By Your Name.

Just nine people have won the Best Picture Oscar two or more times, and that record could tilt to either The Holdovers‘ Mark Johnson or Steven Spielberg, who produced Maestro. Both of those are considered long shots with Oppenheimer‘s trophy magnet run.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 96th Academy Awards will air live on ABC and broadcast outlets worldwide from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. This year, the show will begin at 7 p.m. ET.

Eugene Levy, Emmy-winning star and co-creator of Schitt’s Creek, who is also known to a generation of moviegoers as Noah’s dad in the American Pie movies, will be given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Steve Nissen, the president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, announced that Levy, who came to fame as part of the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV, will be honored with the 2,773rd star on Friday, March 8.

Catherine O’Hara, Levy’s Emmy-winning former Schitt’s Creek spouse, will speak at the dedication.

Also honoring Levy will be his daughter and another former Creek co-star, Sarah Levy.

Eugene’s star, dedicated to his work in television, will be located at 7080 Hollywood Boulevard, per the announcement.

The first trailer for Kevin Costner‘s western epic, Horizon: An American Saga, has arrived.

The two-part cinematic event chronicles the “Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West,” according to a description about the upcoming films.

In the trailer, audiences get a glimpse of the Old West and how it was won and lost, as well as the star-studded cast who helps tell the story.

In addition to Costner, other actors who star in the upcoming film and appear in the tease include Sienna Miller, Luke Wilson and Jamie Campbell Bower. The cast also includes Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Owen Crow Shoe, Tatanka Means, Ella Hunt, Tim Guinee and Michael Anganaro.

Costner co-wrote the script for the epic with Jon Baird.

According to a description about Horizon, the films span “the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865.”

“Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America,” the film description continues.

Ahead of the trailer release, Costner took to Instagram to say that the trailer is “something I’ve been thinking about for a long time.”

“I made it for you,” he added.

Chapter one of Horizon: An American Saga will be released on June 28. Chapter two will hit theaters on Aug. 16.

Netflix has picked up the sitcom Tires, created and co-written by standup comedian and recent Saturday Night Live guest host Shane Gillis. On Tuesday, February 27, at 10 p.m. ET, FX reveals the first two episodes in its epic adaptation of James Clavell‘s bestselling novel Shōgun.

Hiroyuki Sanada, a former child star turned legendary Japanese actor, stars in and produces the 10-episode series. 

He plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, who is struggling to keep his legacy — and himself — alive at the dawn of a century-defining civil war.

And while a star with a producer title can be something of an honorific in Hollywood, Sanada was extremely hands-on, lending not only his cultural sensitivity to the 1600s-set historical drama, but also his industry contacts.

“Luckily, we hired a Japanese crew from Japan,” Sanada tells ABC Audio. “They have experience for the samurai drama making [for a] long time. Some of them I worked with, worked together 40 years ago, 30 years ago, you know, from each department, picked up the best person for this project.”

Anna Sawai plays Toda Mariko, a mysterious translator for a shipwrecked English captain, and the last of a disgraced line. 

Sawai can also be seen in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters alongside another former child star who turned into a big-screen legend: Kurt Russell. She says with a laugh, “When you word it like that, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, like how am I experiencing this?!'”

She continues, “They’re so passionate about their work and they don’t give off that celebrity vibe. They’re just … thespians and they love it. And they’ve become examples of what you want to be like.”

Shōgun currently has a rare 100% rating on the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, a feat that Sanada calls “amazing, crazy [and] more than I expected.” 

“It doesn’t feel real,” Sawai added.

Jodie Turner-Smith is opening up about her divorce from fellow actor Joshua Jackson.

“Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working,” the Star Wars: The Acolyte actress told the U.K.’s The Sunday Times. “And that’s OK.”

“The most important thing is that you choose what’s healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children,” she added.

Turner-Smith filed for divorce from Jackson in October 2023 after four years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and asking for joint custody of the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, whose name they haven’t shared publicly.

The Queen & Slim actress said it’s important to ask yourself if you’re being true to yourself.

“If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us,” she said. “And they don’t just affect us, they affect everybody around us.”

Turner-Smith said she doesn’t consider her marriage to the Dawson’s Creek actor a failure, noting that they “had such a beautiful moment together … and now it’s time for a new moment for both of us.”

She said motherhood has made her “more powerful,” and said she wants to instill within her daughter “how to have respect for herself and for others.”

Moreover, Jodie calls being a single mom “incredible.”

After months of speculation, Ryan Gosling will reportedly take to the stage to perform “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars on March 10, according to Variety. 

For the record, the Motion Picture Academy is still mum about what is sure to be a buzzed-about moment from the nominated Barbie star, whose ode to “blond fragility” not only made the Billboard charts, but garnered an Oscar nomination in the Best Song category to boot.

The trade, however, says it’s a done deal, calling back a cover story with Gosling from February in which he noted, “I don’t know how that would work. But I’m open to it.”

Earlier this month at the Oscars luncheon, “I’m Just Ken” writer and producer Mark Ronson asked ABC News’ Chris Connelly to help convince Gosling to perform at the Oscars. Ronson told Connelly, “I’m going to lobby him. Yeah, definitely. But any help that you could give me would be great.”

The manslaughter trial for Alec Baldwin in relation to the fatal Rust shooting will begin in July, ABC News has confirmed.

New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court on Monday entered a scheduling order with a trial date in State v. Alexander Rae Baldwin.

Jury selection is to begin July 9, with the trial expected to last until July 19.

The court also noted that Baldwin’s team has until May 6 to file any motions to dismiss the charges.

Baldwin was indicted by a grand jury on January 19 on an involuntary manslaughter charge after prosecutors dropped the original manslaughter charges last April.

The 65-year-old star and producer of Rust is accused of fatally shooting Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the New Mexico set of the Western in October 2021.

The actor was practicing a cross-draw when the gun fired, striking the cinematographer and director Joel Souza, who suffered a non-life-threatening injury.

Two others were charged in the on-set shooting: armorer Hannah Gutierrez and first assistant director David Halls.

Halls pleaded no contest to a charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon and was sentenced to six months unsupervised probation as part of a plea deal. Halls handed the Colt .45-style revolver to Baldwin prior to the shooting.

The trial for Gutierrez, who is also charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting, began last week.

Investigators working the case found a “mix” of hundreds of rounds on the set, including inert “dummy” bullets, blank-firing rounds and live ammunition.

The producers of the upcoming 96th Academy Awards have announced the first round of presenters for this year’s telecast, which airs live on ABC on Sunday, March 10.

The previous year’s Academy Award winners traditionally present the trophies to their successors in their respective categories, and to that end, the stars of last year’s biggest winner, Everything Everywhere All at Once, will be on hand. That film’s Best Actress winner Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actress Jamie Lee Curtis and Best Supporting Actor Ke Huy Quan were among the first round of presenters named.

Similarly, Brendan Fraser, who won the Best Actor trophy last year for The Whale, will be taking the stage this year.

Oscar winners Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Al Pacino, Mahershala Ali, Lupita Nyong’o, Jessica Lange and Matthew McConaughey will have their time at the podium this year, as will three-time nominee Michelle Pfeiffer and two-time Emmy winner Zendaya.

More presenters will be announced as the awards show approaches.
