Apple Original Films

Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson team up in the trailer to Fly Me to the Moon, a comedy-drama set against NASA’s first mission to the moon.

Tatum replaced both Jason Bateman and Chris Evans as the lead of the Apple Originals movie once called Project Artemis. He plays Cole Davis, a NASA launch director who is forced to collaborate with Johansson’s savvy ad shark Kelly Jones.

As Apple teases, “sparks fly in all directions” as Kelly boosts NASA’s public image by getting the astronauts product endorsements from everything from Omega watches to Rice Krispies. “When I’m done, those men are gonna be bigger than The Beatles,” she insists.

However, the pair soon have to collaborate on a top-secret mission: faking the moon landing on a Hollywood-type set to fool the Soviets in case the real mission fails.

The comedy-drama, from the Arrowverse’s Greg Berlanti, also includes Woody Harrelson and Ray Romano.

The movie blasts off into theaters on July 12.

On Monday, John Mulaney announced he will return to Netflix for a live six-episode series called John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In LA.

As part of the annual Netflix is a Joke Fest, “The comically unconventional show will feature special guests and field pieces shot in Los Angeles,” including “Mulaney and many famous and non-famous people who are in L.A.,” the streamer teases.

The video uses random residents to hint that you’ll see “people equal to, but not necessarily, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and David Letterman,” with one passerby warning in Spanish that nobody has confirmed yet.

Netflix adds that the comedian who won Emmys for his previous Netflix comedy specials John Mulaney: Baby J and Kid Gorgeous “explores the city of Los Angeles during a week when every funny person is in it.”

The live show debuts on Friday, May 3, at 10 p.m. ET, with additional episodes streaming nightly from May 6 to May 10 starting at the same time.

Mulaney will also be performing at the Hollywood Bowl on May 4 as part of the comedy festival, which runs May 2 to May 12.

‘Oppenheimer’ Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. reveals he’d “happily” reprise as Tony Stark in the MCU

‘Oppenheimer’ Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. reveals he’d “happily” reprise as Tony Stark in the MCU

It appears Robert Downey Jr. has rethought coming back to his role as Iron Man.

In a touching, wide-ranging interview with Esquire that began shortly after his nomination for the Academy Award-winning Oppenheimer, Downey revealed that he would — to use a turn of phrase he once used on The Howard Stern Show — “put the jersey back on” and play once again for Marvel Studios.

When asked if he’d return as the self-described billionaire, genius, playboy philanthropist Tony Stark, Downey revealed, “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me.”

Tony Stark sacrificed himself to snap away Thanos at the end of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told Vanity Fair in December, “We would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

But that was then, and Marvel’s blockbuster-minting machine has had some hiccups, with misfires like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels.

That said, Downey tells Esquire, “I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

In the past, Downey told The Joe Rogan Show that a return was “off the table,” barring a “super-compelling argument.”

Incidentally, Esquire‘s post-Academy Awards questions revealed what Downey thought of a couple of clunker monologue jokes Jimmy Kimmel lobbed at him on Oscar night poking fun at his past drug abuse.

“I don’t care,” RDJ said. “I love Jimmy Kimmel. I think he’s a national treasure.”

As for what it felt like while he hoisted that glamorous award? Downey noted he felt something less glamorous, saying, “I was just trying to hold my mud.”

After Thursday night’s episode of ABC’s 9-1-1, in which Oliver Stark‘s fireman Buck and Lou Ferrigno Jr.‘s Tommy share a kiss, Stark told his Instagram followers he “couldn’t be prouder” of the supportive messages he’s seen.

However, the Instagram Story posted on Saturday also noted there’s been some homophobic backlash to the tender moment. “If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show, I would like you to know that I truly don’t care,” the actor said, according to a screenshot of the time-limited message snapped by Page Six.

“This is a show about love and inclusion,” his message continued. “It’s featured queer relationships from the very beginning, including a beautiful Black lesbian marriage played out by two of the best actresses I’ve ever watched.”

Stark said, “If one other character finding a new facet to his sexuality and [realizing] his bisexuality is your deal breaker — I fear you’ve missed the entire point of the show.”

For good measure, he told the haters, “You are not required to announce your departure.”

Jonathan Majors will receive no jail time for domestic violence conviction

ABC News

Jonathan Majors was sentenced Monday to domestic violence programming after the judge decided “jail is not necessary.”

Majors must complete a 52-week in-person batterers intervention program in Los Angeles, continue mental health counseling and stay away from the victim, his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, ABC News’ Aaron Katersky reports.

Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Michael Gaffey handed down the sentence after Majors was found guilty in December of assaulting his then-girlfriend Jabbari.

She delivered a prepared victim impact statement in which she asserted Majors “remains a danger to others.”

“He is not sorry. He has not accepted responsibility. And he will do it again. He will abuse other women,” she said in part.

Majors faced a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail, but prosecutor Kelli Galaway said domestic violence programming along with an order of protection against Jabbari would suffice.

Defense attorney Priya Chaudhry said Majors declined to speak at sentencing due to Jabbari’s civil lawsuit against him.

“He promises to complete whatever program the court orders with an open heart,” she said, adding, “We are optimistic Mr. Majors will work in the film industry again soon.”

In December, the Creed III star was convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment; Marvel then dropped Majors from future projects.

Last week, Judge Gaffey declined to throw out the conviction as Majors requested.

The altercation happened in a hired SUV in March of last year when Jabbari tried to grab Majors’ phone after seeing a message from another woman pop up. She claims she suffered a broken finger and a lacerated ear as he tried to get his phone back.

Majors portrayed Jabbari as the aggressor in a subsequent interview with ABC News, claiming she grabbed his face and slapped him.

As is tradition, members of Saturday Night Live‘s Five-Timer’s Club, including Paul Rudd, wanted to welcome host Kristen Wiig to the fraternity on Saturday night.

But like people do with any exclusive club, some other names tried to sneak in.

“I’m really excited about getting my jacket tonight,” she enthused, explaining, “they don’t just hand the jackets off to anyone.”

But then Matt Damon popped up from the audience wearing one of those Five-Timers smoking jackets, insisting, “Lorne [Michaels] said the first time I hosted was so good, it accounted for three — and then second time not quite as good that only counted for two. But by my math, that’s five, baby.”

He got an extra jacket for spoofing then Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh. “I’ll give it to one of my kids,” he dismissed the honor.

Then, Jon Hamm, Will Forte and Fred Armisen showed up, all wearing smoking jackets they actually didn’t earn. “Together we’ve hosted five times,” Forte insisted.

Hamm pleaded with Michaels for his fourth turn as host, while Martin Short, also coming up short in numbers, complained to Lorne that he hasn’t hosted since 2012.

Afterward, Wiig made her peace with sharing the shared honor with a heartfelt song about it — only to be interrupted by the sight of Michaels watching Ryan Gosling try his own jacket on.

“Are you sure?” the Barbie star asked Michaels. “I mean I haven’t even hosted three times yet!” Lorne waved off his protests.

Gosling actually hosts the show for a third time Saturday, April 13, with musical guest Chris Stapleton.

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ closes with a ‘Seinfeld’ finale throwback, and Jerry himself

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ closes with a ‘Seinfeld’ finale throwback, and Jerry himself
‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ closes with a ‘Seinfeld’ finale throwback, and Jerry himself
HBO/John Johnson

(SPOILERS) After 12 seasons, HBO’s Emmy-winning comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm ended on Sunday, April 7, with a finale that deliberately poked fun at Seinfeld‘s divisive 1998 final episode.

That classic show, which Curb creator and star Larry David co-created, ended with Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine behind bars for violating Pennsylvania’s Good Samaritan law. A cavalcade of character witnesses — past characters from the show’s nine-season run — returned to testify against them.

Curb ended much the same way: Larry is on trial, this time for violating Georgia’s Election Integrity Act back in the season’s first episode.

Just like the end of Seinfeld, characters from seasons past with an axe to grind against Larry attempt to get even, including the now-adult woman who endured decades of therapy after Larry hugged her as a little girl while he had a bottle of water in his pocket, and Bruce Springsteen himself. The Boss, testifying via video, accused Larry of “maliciously” giving him COVID.

The jury finds Larry guilty. The judge, played by Breaking Bad‘s Dean Norris, throws the book at him, and he’s sentenced to a year in jail. But then in comes Jerry Seinfeld himself to spring his old friend: It seems a juror broke sequester, thus invalidating Larry’s sentence.

Larry, now free, gets the happy ending the “Seinfeld Four” didn’t.

“You don’t wanna end up like this. Nobody wants to see it. Trust me,” Jerry says to Larry, winking to the audience. The show ends with them walking down the halls of the prison with Larry a free man, and an a-ha moment for the pair.

“Oh my God, this is how we should’ve ended the finale!” says Larry. “Oh my God you’re right, how did we not think of that?!” Jerry replies.
