Jake Gyllenhaal hosts Saturday Night Live‘s May 18 season 49 finale, and in a new promo for the episode, the Roadhouse actor tries to craft the perfect yearbook message.

The clip opens with Gyllenhaal looking over a script for a sketch in a comical southern accent, when SNL castmember Marcello Hernández interrupts him with a request to sign his yearbook.

It’s followed by scenes of Jake agonizing over what to write, before finally coming up with just the right words. “Enjoy, Pápi,” he says with a wink as he hands the book to Marcello and proceeds to walk towards an exit.

“Wait. ‘B KEWL! — Jack?'” Hernandez asks incredulously, as he reads off the super short message.

“Yo, you didn’t even spell your name right,” adds Hernández, before delivering the closing line, “Whatever. It’s a fake yearbook for a promo anyway.”

“Espresso” singer and Taylor Swift bestie Sabrina Carpenter is the musical guest.

Although his pal and 50 First Dates co-star Drew Barrymore told fans in April that Adam Sandler was working on a sequel to 1996’s Happy Gilmore, Netflix just made it official.

In releasing its lineup of forthcoming films for 2024 and 2025 on Wednesday, May 15, the streamer revealed Happy Gilmore 2 is indeed among them.

“It’s been almost 30 years since we last saw Happy Gilmore, the long-driving hero who won in the Tour Championship in 1996. Now, we finally get to catch up with him in a new sequel,” Netflix teased.

“That’s right, Adam Sandler is returning to the golf green as Happy Gilmore, and he’s bringing his powerful slap shot with him. No word on any alligators.”

No release date or co-star information was given, though actor Christopher McDonald, who played scheming golfer Shooter McGavin in the film, recently revealed he had been shown a draft of a sequel script by Sandler.

“Sandler fans have been waiting for an update on the long-rumored sequel,” Netflix said, adding that characters from the comedy classic have popped up in Jack and Jill, Little Nicky and Netflix’s own Hubie Halloween.

“But Sandler’s hotheaded driver is finally coming back,” the streaming giant says. “Stay tuned for more as we follow Happy Gilmore’s triumphant return to the world of sports.”

Netflix has chosen a very appropriate date to drop its animated series Terminator Zero — August 29, best known as Judgement Day for fans of the seminal sci-fi series.

According to 1991’s Terminator 2, it is on that date in 1997 — at 2:14 a.m., to be exact — when the artificial intelligence system known as Skynet becomes self-aware and decides all of humanity is a threat, provoking a catastrophic nuclear exchange with Russia.

The new series follows two related timelines: 1997 and 2022, the latter from which a female soldier is sent back through time to save a scientist with the key to stopping Judgement Day.

Netflix teases, “She arrives in 1997 to protect … Malcolm Lee who works to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he’s hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future, which forever alters the fate of his three children.”

The series, shepherded by Mattson Tomlin, will introduce new characters to the Terminator mythology.

But of course, there will be killer robots, as the preview photos revealed, including a male figure with part of his face torn off, revealing his metal skull beneath.

“Encompassing flesh-and-blood resistance fighters and time-traveling cyborgs, this battle spans across the last decades of the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st,” the streaming service says.

In a chat with Deadline at the Cannes International Film Festival, where the first installment of his mostly self-funded Western epic Horizon: An American Saga will debut on May 19, Kevin Costner talked about his future — and past — with Yellowstone.

In a frank discussion with the trade’s Mike Fleming, Costner insisted he didn’t interfere with Yellowstone‘s shooting schedule in order to make Horizon, as rumors suggested he had.

“Well, I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful,” Costner vented.

“So now I’m talking about a little bit about what the real truth of it was. I made a contract for seasons five, six and seven,” the Oscar winner said.

“In February, after a two- or three-month negotiation, they made another contract. They wanted to redo that one, and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we’ll do six.”

He continued, “They weren’t able to make those. Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was first position. I fit [Horizon] into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps.”

Costner added, “I don’t want to get down in the gutter with the Yellowstone thing but what I’m telling you is straight up. I have taken a beating from those f****** guys and … I just elected not to get into that. But if you know me well enough, I made Yellowstone the first priority, and to insinuate anything else would be wrong.”

He added, seemingly talking about the folks behind Paramount Network’s smash series, “I don’t know why they didn’t stick up for me” amid the rumors.

To Entertainment Tonight in April, Costner said he’d “love” to return to see his John Dutton off into the sunset.

A new trailer for the movie version of Wicked has arrived.

The new look at the Jon M. Chu-directed film, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, was released Wednesday.

“Are people born wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?” a voice-over says at the beginning of the trailer.

We then see the evolution of Elphaba and Glinda’s relationship as classmates at Shiz University, where they’re taught by Michelle Yeoh‘s Madame Morrible and have an initially contentious relationship. We also see them traveling to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz, played by Jeff Goldblum, who apparently has big plans for Elphaba.

Extended snippets of some of the Broadway musical’s most famous songs, “Popular” and “Defying Gravity,” can also be heard.

The cast of the star-studded film also includes Ethan Slater as Boq and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, as well as Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James and Keala Settle.

Wicked: Part One will be released in theaters on November 27. Wicked: Part Two will arrive one year later on November 26, 2025.

Conan O’Brien better pack his bags. Not only was his hit travelogue comedy series Conan O’Brien Must Go been renewed by Max, it’s been expanded.

Nina Rosenstein, the head of HBO Programming’s Late Night & Specials division, said during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation, “Our audience told us in no uncertain terms that four episodes of Conan O’Brien Must Go is not nearly enough. To which we say, be careful what you wish for.”

She adds, “Conan’s ridiculousness knows no bounds.”

The four-episode series had O’Brien surprising his podcast’s fans from Thailand, Norway, Ireland and Argentina. Along the way, he recorded and performed a song with a Norwegian pop group, learned how to kickbox and found out his forebears weren’t nobility, but serfs, among other adventures.

For his part, the Emmy winner and newly crowned Hot Ones legend reacted to the news by saying, “This latest travel show has been so fun and rewarding that I suspected it was all a cruel prank. My apologies in advance to the next six countries.”

Max

As part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upfront presentation on Wednesday, HBO released a teaser to its six-episode Dune prequel series, Dune: Prophecy

Set 10,000 years before the ascension of Timothée Chalamet‘s Paul Atreides from the blockbuster franchise, “Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit,” according to the streamer.

Debuting in the fall, the series is inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson‘s book Sisterhood of Dune, based on the world created by legendary sci-fi author Frank Herbert

For a small-screen project, the tease showcases stunning visuals that fans have come to expect from the franchise, but with a focus on the palace intrigue that went into the sect’s rise to power.

But “power comes with a price,” Emily Watson‘s Valya warns.

Later in the teaser, Jade Anouka‘s Sister Theodosia laments, “This is us playing God, and we will be judged for it.”

Valya later sums up her ambition: “Sisterhood above all.”

The series is co-produced by Max and Legendary Television: Legendary produced the franchise that has released two wildly successful films, the first of which garnered six Academy Awards.
