Discovery sets sail with the 20th season of Deadliest Catch Tuesday night. Nominated for 59 Emmy awards, the reality show follows a fleet of boats and their crews, showing the dangerous reality of crab fishermen on the Bering Sea.

In those 20 seasons, the crews have become TV stars in their own right. Sig Hansen, the captain of the Northwestern, has become a fan favorite.

“I love it!” he enthused to ABC Audio.

“I mean, I can’t say enough about that. It’s flattering. … [I feel] very blessed because I get to do what I feel like I was born to do and what I’ve always wanted to do, and at the same time experience this whole other life.”

He adds, “I love the fact, you know, as soon as I leave my house, it doesn’t matter where we go, someone’s going to want a picture. … And, that just means we’re doing something right.”

He says the show’s fame also boosted the industry’s profile. “It’s done so much for not just crab fishing, but, you know, all the fishermen across the globe. People understand … where the product came from and how it got to their plate. And so that’s something money can’t buy, man.”

Having just welcomed his second grandchild, Sig does admit to jitters he’s never had before following the loss of his good friend Jeff Hathaway, whose boat Destination sank in 2017, killing all six men aboard.

“It bothers me a lot,” he says of the tragedy, caused by an overloaded boat. “I can’t even sleep at the time when we got gear on board … I wouldn’t have never said that, you know, 10, 20 years ago. Ever.”

He adds with a laugh, “It’s weird … I got manopause, it sucks!”

Apple TV+ dropped a sizzle reel Monday of all its upcoming projects for the new season, including the first look at the return of the streamer’s acclaimed Severance.

“Welcome back,” Tramell Tillman‘s Milchick says to Adam Scott‘s Mark as the latter enters Lumon Industries once again. Milchick is holding blue helium balloons with what looks like Mark’s face on them for the occasion. “Been a minute,” he continues.

Other projects teased include Presumed Innocent, the series starring Jake Gyllenhaal, which debuts on June 12; Fly Me to the Moon, starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, coming to theaters July 12; and the Natalie Portman-led limited mystery series Lady in the Lake, which debuts on July 19.

Wolfs, the new George Clooney and Brad Pitt film two-hander, is also glimpsed ahead of its Sept. 20 theatrical premiere, as is Matt Damon and Casey Affleck‘s The Instigators (premiering Aug. 6).

The acclaimed series Pachinko is coming back, according to the trailer, as well as a second season of the sci-fi series Silo, the dramedy Shrinking and the spy drama Slow Horses.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Animation have become the kings of family-friendly blockbusters, between Despicable Me and spin-off Minions films and The Super Mario Bros. Movie — and after racking up billion-dollar hit after hit, they’re apparently in the mood to talk a little trash about the competition. 

To promote his upcoming Despicable Me 4, voice star Steve Carell appears in a promo tweaking the superhero genre in general, and Marvel’s Marvel Cinematic Universe and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson specifically.

The caption for the video spoofs The Rock’s failed Black Adam gambit directly, teasing, “The hierarchy of power in the Illumination universe is about to change.”

“By now you’ve probably heard of the Mega Minions, five minions with incredible power and zero responsibility,” Carell begins, thumbing his nose at Spider-Man’s mantra.

Carell continues, “But Despicable Me 4 is only the beginning. Presenting Illumination’s Megaverse.”

Behind him, a Marvel Studios-like timeline pops up, as he teases “50 interconnected Mega Minions stories shared across a variety of mediums on an irregular basis for the next 100 years.” 

Some of the obviously phony forthcoming titles scrolling behind him include 2076’s Mega Minions: Vector Vortex and Mad Mega: Furry Road, coming in 2094. 

There’s also 2071’s Mega Minions: The Write Off, an apparent jab at Warner Bros. Pictures’ shelved Batgirl film. 

“From their debut in Despicable Me 4, the Mega Minions are charting a course, from the big screen to the small screen … from stages of Broadway to the ice rinks of Jacksonville, Florida,” says Carell, who reminds fans that tickets for Despicable Me 4, which opens July 3, are now on sale.

In an Instagram Story, Warner Bros. Pictures on Monday teased that it’s conjuring up a sequel to the bewitching 1998 hit Sandra Bullock/Nicole Kidman film Practical Magic.

The film had the pair playing witchy sisters who face prejudice in their small town, as well as a curse that keeps them from finding true love.

WB used a series of clips from the movie to hint that a Practical Magic 2 was in the offing: one features Bullock’s Sally running toward Mark Feuerstein‘s Michael, set — as it is seen in the movie — to Faith Hill‘s hit from the film “This Kiss.” Hastily stuck onto her beau are the words “Practical Magic 2.”

Another clip shows Nicole Kidman’s Gillian shaking a number 2 from a vial and adding it to a bottle labeled “Practical Magic.”

The third snippet shows both Owens sisters performing a magic ritual they use to bring the title to life.

Good Morning America has confirmed that deals to snag the two Oscar winners are in the works. They are expected to produce the project, with the original film’s co-writer Akiva Goldsman writing the script.

Directed by Griffin Dunne, the original film also starred Emmy winner Stockard Channing and Oscar winner Dianne Weist, as well as Aiden Quinn and Goran Visnjic.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of Ghostbusters, Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani are toplining a special tribute to the franchise. 

The pair make their debut in the universe with the recent Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Nanjiani plays Nadeem Razmaadi, a con artist who finds out he has a supernatural purpose; Oswalt plays Dr. Hubert Wartzki, an eccentric academic who fills in the gang on the lore of a new threat they face.

Light ‘Em Up: Ghostbusters Past, Present & Future is a 22-minute look back at the franchise, featuring new interviews and clips, as well as vintage snippets from the late Harold Ramis, who co-wrote Ghostbusters, and the late Ivan Reitman, the director of the first two movies.

“For Ivan … who did so much great stuff, [Ghostbusters] was a jewel in his crown,” says Afterlife and Frozen co-star Paul Rudd. 

Patton and Kumail also salute the special effects artists and prop makers who helped bring the world to life, including the iconic Ecto-1, the Ghostbusters’ emergency vehicle. 

Bill Murray reflected on shooting the original in 1984 while tooling around the streets of New York City without locking off traffic, as is customary for movie shoots. “Never stopping for stop lights. It was so much fun … we were just driving around, doing anything we wanted,” he recalls with a laugh. 

There’s also a salute to the fans, who kept the franchise alive — including those who suited up for Ghostbusters Day tributes in Los Angeles and, of course, New York City on June 8.

According to online movie ticketing service Fandango, the advance ticket sales for Friday’s Inside Out 2 release have surpassed those for the hit 2015 original.

In fact, the presales for a Disney/Pixar film haven’t been this good since 2019’s Toy Story 4, according to the service. Jerramy Hainline, EVP of Fandango, called the enthusiasm for the film “impressive.” A recent Fandango survey of 2,000 moviegoers ranked Inside Out 2 as the #2 most-anticipated movie of the year.

The new film, the cast of which includes Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black and Ayo Edebiri, opens on June 14.

In Inside Out 2, Riley’s teen years come with all new emotions. The studio teases: “Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust — who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts — aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment show up.”

On Sunday, Matthew McConaughey posted a sweet snap on socials to thank wife Camila Alves McConaughey for 12 years of marriage.

In the romantic photo, the couple have the setting sun behind them, as the Oscar winner and author, wearing a cowboy hat and denim jacket, holds Alves’ face in his hands and plants a kiss on her forehead.

He captioned it only, “thank you,” adding the hashtag #happyanniversary.

The mother of the couple’s three children, 15-year-old Levi, 14-year-old Vida, and 11-year-old Livingston, reposted the photo on her own Insta.

The Dallas Buyers club star’s romantic post got more than 123,000 likes and counting, and earned swoons from fans with some commenting “#couplegoals.”

The pair got engaged in 2011, and officially tied the knot at McConaughey’s home in Austin, Texas in June 2012; their two eldest children were in their wedding party.

Max has canceled Tokyo Vice after two seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series follows Ansel Elgort as an American journalist investigating the yakuza in Tokyo. The show was originally intended to run for two seasons, which was how long Elgort had signed on for. Season 2 concluded on April 4 …

The Haunting of Hill House‘s Henry Thomas has been tapped to star in the upcoming horror film The Necklace, according to Deadline. The movie follows a woman who is separated from her husband, who lures her back with an old necklace that turns out to be possessed by an evil boy, putting the woman and their kids in grave danger …

B movie actress Betty Anne Rees, best known for her roles in the 1970s films The Unholy Rollers and Sugar Hill, died at her home in Hemet, California, after a series of falls and a possible stroke, her niece, Kathleen Loucks, tells The Hollywood Reporter. Rees, who was also diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, was 81. Bad Boys: Ride or Die made an impressive North American box office debut, earning an estimated $56 million — the biggest opening of any Bad Boys film, according to Variety. The films marks Will Smith‘s first major film to hit theaters since his infamous Oscars slap in 2022.

Overseas, the fourth film in the Bad Boys franchise, also starring Martin Lawrence, grabbed an estimated $48.6 million, for a global tally of $104.6 million.

The Garfield Movie took second place, delivering an estimated $10 million in its second week of release. The animated feature has earned $68.6 million at the domestic box office, for a global tally of $192.7 million.

Third place went to John Krasinski‘s live-action CGI fantasy comedy IF, featuring the voices of Krasinski, Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the late Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell. The film earned an estimated $8 million. Its four-week domestic tally now stands at $93.5 million and $160.7 million worldwide.

The Watchers, which marks the directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan‘s daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan, landed in forth place, collecting an estimated $7 million at the North American box office in its debut weekend. Internationally, the horror film, starring Dakota Fanning, earned an estimated $4.7 million, for a worldwide total of $11.7 million.

Rounding out the top five was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, adding an estimated $5.4 million to its domestic tally, which currently stands at $149.7 million after five weeks. The film has grossed $359.7 million globally.

AMC announced Friday that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, the second season of its Norman Reedus-starring spin-off, will debut on Sept. 29.

As has been reported, and as the title indicates, the second season will also center on fan favorite Melissa McBride‘s Carol Peletier, Daryl’s ride-or-die from the original show.

McBride initially was to star with Reedus in a two-hander spin-off, but a change to a European shooting location led the actress to change her mind. The show’s first season solely centered on Daryl finding himself mysteriously marooned in France amid the walker apocalypse.

The network teases the second season sees the fan favorites “both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France.”

The series kicks off Sept. 29 on both AMC and AMC+.
