Nicole Kidman is starring in a new crime drama, Netflix’s six-episode limited series, The Perfect Couple.

A teaser trailer for the star-studded show just dropped, opening with Oscar winner Kidman’s Greer Garrison Winbury, and Liev Schreiber‘s Tag Winbury, being interviewed by a reporter who asks them if “unconditional love” is what makes a 29-year marriage last.

Next, several clips set the scene that the wedding of one of Greer’s sons is about to happen at her beachfront Nantucket home.

But things take an eerie turn when a body turns up on the beach and Greer finds herself questioned by detectives.

More suspicious moments arise in the teaser when Eve Hewson‘s character, Amelia Sacks, asks Greer’s family during a dinner scene why they ask people to sign non-disclosure agreements.

“They’re rich,” says one character about the family in the teaser. “Kill-someone-and-get-away-with-it rich.”

According to a synopsis for the series, which is based on Bird Box author Elin Hilderbrand‘s bestselling novel of the same name, the show will follow Amelia, who is “about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket.”

“Her disapproving future mother-in-law, famous novelist Greer Garrison Winbury, has spared no expense in planning what promises to be the premiere wedding of the season — until a body turns up on the beach,” the synopsis continues. “As secrets come to light, the stage is set for a real-life investigation that feels plucked from the pages of one of Greer’s novels. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect.”

Dakota Fanning and Jack Reynor also star in the show, which hits the streamer September 5.

Lydia Deetz, the character portrayed by Winona Ryder in 1988’s Beetlejuice, as well as the upcoming sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, was coaxed into marrying the titular troublemaking ghost, played by Michael Keaton  something she thinks mirrors her own life in some ways.

“In my 30s, I had two disastrous relationships that were — they weren’t wrong, but this was before you would ever think to Google someone,” Ryder tells Harpers Bazaar in an interview published Thursday.

“When I look back, I’m like, ‘What the hell was I thinking?’” she added. “I was dating the type of person who only lets you know a few weeks in that they’re in a relationship with someone else. And you’re just like, ‘What the f***?’”

Ryder doesn’t name names in the interview, though some of her exes include Rob Lowe, Johnny Depp, David Duchovny and Matt Damon.

Ryder, 52, has been in a relationship with fashion designer Scott Mackinlay, whom she met at the premiere of her movie Black Swan, since 2011.

“He’s so great. He really is. I’m really lucky,” she tells the outlet.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opens in theaters Sept. 6.

Andy Samberg says he left ‘SNL’ because he was “falling apart”

Andy Samberg says he left ‘SNL’ because he was “falling apart”
Peacock

He was arguably one of the biggest stars on Saturday Night Live before he left after seven seasons in 2012, but Andy Samberg reveals he was in pretty bad shape.

“I was falling apart in my life,” Samberg said on Kevin Hart‘s Peacock series Hart to Heart.

“Physically, it was taking a heavy toll on me and I got to a place where I was like, I hadn’t slept in seven years basically,” he said.

When his longtime friends and Lonely Island collaborators Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer left the show as writers, Samberg was left holding the bag creating SNL‘s now-viral Digital Shorts — in addition to writing and appearing on sketches on the show. “I … never pretended like I could do [those] without them,” Samberg said.

“We were writing stuff for the live show Tuesday night all night, the table read Wednesday, then being told now come up with a Digital Short, so write all Thursday, all Thursday night, don’t sleep, get up, shoot Friday, edit all night Friday night and into Saturday, so it’s basically like four days a week you’re not sleeping, for seven years. So I just kinda fell apart physically.”

He added what made his decision to leave “harder” was when the show’s producers “told me straight up, ‘We prefer you would stay.'”

Ultimately, Samberg parted ways “to get back to a feeling of like mental and physical health, I have to do it. So I did it and it was a very difficult choice.”

James Gunn teases one year until ‘Superman’ takes off

Warner Bros. Discovery

With a post to social media on July 11, writer/director James Gunn is reminding fans that his anticipated Superman takes flight in 365 days.

With a picture of Superman’s logo, which fans would recognize as the style Supes wore in the heralded 1996 Kingdom Come comics storyline, Gunn wrote on Thursday, “In exactly one year #Superman opens all over the world.”

Sharp-eyed fans have spotted the identical logo on the chest of David Corenswet‘s super-suit in various on-set snaps.

Mark Waid and Alex Ross‘ classic Kingdom Come miniseries sees the Man of Steel coaxed back into action by members of the Justice League following an apocalyptic event.

As reported, Corenswet plays Superman/Clark Kent in the new film, with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s Rachel Brosnahan is playing his love, Lois Lane.

Gunn’s Superman cast also includes Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi and Anthony Carrigan.

In a lengthy three-way video interview with Variety, director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds described how Hugh Jackman “unlocked” what became Deadpool & Wolverine

While Jackman’s “epiphany” that he wanted to put on Wolverine’s claws once again after 2016’s Logan has already been covered, they shared new information about how central he was to the movie coming together.

Levy said he and Reynolds had been working on a Deadpool 3, “but it never gelled.”

“We won’t belabor the creative part of it too long, but Hugh … unlocked the biggest thing when he sent us a 10-minute voice memo,” Ryan says.

“It was more like 17 minutes,” Levy corrected.

“Which is a terrifying thing to get from anyone. You’re like, ’17 minutes?!'” Ryan exclaimed.

Jackman says, “It was inarticulate. I learned this from my acting teacher: When you first read a play or script, write down everything you think because you never have those eyes again. So, I read the script and immediately did a voice note. I didn’t call because I wanted it just to be my ‘blah blah blah’ without any questions. And 16 minutes of it is crap, but there’s probably a minute in there that ends up [working].”

Whatever that was, the trio isn’t saying, but it did work. “Suddenly it triggered epiphany after epiphany,” Ryan says. “So, Hugh, you have a huge hand in writing the movie, as well. One of my favorite parts of your character in the film is from that voice memo.”

They also hinted at whether we’ll see either of the heroes again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “We’ll see,” Reynolds allows.

Deadpool & Wolverine opens July 26.

Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

Shelley Duvall, the actress best known for starring in Robert Altman‘s Nashville and 3 Women, and in Stanley Kubrick‘s horror classic The Shining, has died, her partner Dan Gilroy told ABC News.

She was 75.

“Shelley loved animals, especially birds, now she’s free to fly,” said Gilroy, her life partner for decades.

He went on to say, “She’s been suffering for many months, as much as I miss her, my life partner for thirty-four years, I’m glad she’s not suffering anymore.”

Duvall won the Cannes best actress award for her role in 3 Women and later won a Peabody for hosting the children’s anthology series Shelley Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theatre.

Born in Texas in 1949, Duvall was a regular figure in Altman’s films, having appeared in seven of the director’s projects, beginning with 1970’s Brewster McCloud — her first film role.

Duvall’s last film with Altman was 1980’s Popeye, in which she played Olive Oyl, the girlfriend of Robin Williams‘ titular character.

Amid her collaborations with Altman, Duvall also appeared alongside Diane Keaton in Woody Allen‘s Annie Hall in 1977.

Some of Duvall’s other film roles included Tim Burton‘s 1984 short film Frankenweenie, the Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah rom-com Roxanne in 1987, Jane Campion‘s 1996 film The Portrait of a Lady and as Hilary Duff‘s witchy aunt in 1998’s Casper Meets Wendy.

Duvall hosted several anthology television series, including Faerie Tale Theatre in the ’80s and Shelley Duvall’s Bedtime Stories in the ’90s, the latter of which earned her an Emmy nomination.

Beginning in the early aughts, Duvall had largely remained private both in public and private life. The actress had also been open about her struggle with mental illness in recent years.

Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest are bonding ahead of the new Wheel of Fortune season.

On Tuesday, White shared a sweet photo on Instagram with her new co-host at dinner sharing one of their favorite meals.

“Friends on and off camera,” White wrote in the caption of the post. “Enjoying one of our favorites, Chicken and Dumplings!”

Seacrest replied in the comments section of the post, “Always a treat! Here’s to more fun moments and delicious bites,” along with a dumpling emoji.

The duo will take the reins of Wheel of Fortune together when the show’s new season kicks off this fall.

Seacrest is taking over Pat Sajak‘s longtime role as co-host of the iconic game show. Sajak spun the wheel for a final time on the syndicated show in June, though he will be back for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune on ABC in October.

Since the announcement, Sajak welcomed Seacrest to the Wheel set with White to show him the ropes.

In one promo video for the new season, Sajak tells Seacrest what he’ll enjoy most about hosting the show is “meeting the players and getting to know the audience at home,” noting that “people love this show” as a daily escape they can watch as family.

“You’re never going to find a better job,” Sajak added before motioning to White. “And you’re never going to find a better co-host.”

The Substance, a body horror pic starring Demi Moore that received a 13-minute standing ovation at Cannes International Film Festival — and the Best Screenplay trophy, to boot — just revealed a teaser

The flick has Moore playing an aging Hollywood superstar so desperate to regain her looks that she signs up to take a serum that shares the title’s name.

As Moore stares at herself in the mirror, the teaser begins with the monotone ad copy in voice-over: “Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself? Younger. More Beautiful. More perfect.”

It’s too good to resist: “One single injection unlocks your DNA, starting a new cellular division, unleashing a new version of yourself,” the mysterious company behind it teased in an earlier sneak peek clip.

However, it’s also too good to be true. In a series of quick, nerve-jangling cuts, the teaser shows the chaotic after-effects that come from deciding not to age gracefully, including Moore getting thrown bodily across a room.

One clip has Dennis Quaid, surrounded by a frame full of other old white dudes, grinning eerily. “Pretty girls should always smile!” he shouts.

Margaret Qualley also stars in the film from writer-director Coralie Fargeat, coming to theaters nationwide on Sept. 20.
