This won’t be the last of The Last of Us.

HBO has renewed the drama series for a third season just ahead of its season 2 premiere. The series debuts its second season on Sunday. It consists of seven episodes that will air on HBO and also be available to stream on Max.

Season 2 of The Last of Us picks up five years after the events of season 1. It finds Joel and Ellie in conflict with each other, and the dangerous and unpredictable world they now live in.

Pedro Pascal leads the cast as Joel while Bella Ramsey stars as Ellie. The rest of the season 2 cast consists of Gabriel Luna, Rutina Wesley, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright and Catherine O’Hara.

“We approached season two with the goal of creating something we could be proud of. The end results have exceeded even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our continued collaboration with HBO and the impeccable work of our unparalleled cast and crew,” the show’s co-creator Craig Mazin said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing the story of The Last of Us with season three!”

Francesca Orsi, the executive vice president of HBO programming, said it cannot be overemphasized how proud HBO is of the “outstanding achievement we believe the second season of The Last of Us is.”

She said the entire team “delivered a masterful follow-up and we’re thrilled to carry the power of Craig and Neil [Druckmann]’s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.”

The story of the Hershey chocolate company will be told in an upcoming biopic.

Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario are set to star in the new live-action film Hershey, according to The Hershey Company.

The film will follow the life of Milton Hershey, who will be played by Wittrock. It will show how he built a chocolate candy empire alongside his wife, Catherine Hershey, to be played by Daddario. It will be directed by Mark Waters, who helmed Mean Girls and Freaky Friday.

Hershey will reveal “how a man who failed in business multiple times before creating an iconic chocolate empire chose to channel his success into a legacy of education and community that continues to transform lives today,” according to its official synopsis.

The project begins filming in May. It will shoot in Pennsylvania with an expected 2026 release date, though there is no distributor attached as of yet.

“Against all odds, Milton achieved great success, but unlike a lot of other wealthy men of his time, he shared his success with the working people and community around him,” Waters said. “The core of Hershey, the movie, will be the special love story between Milton and Catherine Hershey, who inspired his greatest legacy — the creation of Milton Hershey School.”

The director also expressed his excitement for Wittrock and Daddario to take on the lead roles.

“I’m excited to have Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario to portray these two visionaries, who believed in leaving the world a better place than they found it — the kind of wonderful, true story that audiences are hungry for right now,” Waters said.

It seems Robert Pattinson may be heading to Arrakis.

The actor is being considered to join the cast of Dune 3, according to Deadline. The outlet reports that no formal offer has been sent, but there is strong interest for Pattinson to join the ensemble. There is no word on who he would play, although the role is expected to be significant.

This potential casting would add another A-lister to an already star-studded cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Zendaya.

Director Denis Villeneuve is still putting the finishing touches on the script for the third installment of the film series based on Frank Herbert‘s sci-fi books. The franchise comes from Legendary and Warner Bros.

The Dune universe has been expanded into multiple formats. In addition to the films Dune and Dune: Part Two, a TV series set in the same universe launched in November 2024. Called Dune: Prophecy, it released on HBO and is available to stream on Max.

Dune 3 is expected to start filming in the summer.

Those angry birds are back for more.

Paramount Pictures has announced that The Angry Birds Movie 3 will soar into theaters on Jan. 29, 2027. John Rice will direct the third film based on the video game from a script by Thurop Van Orman.

Red, Chuck, Silver and Bomb will return to the big screen, again played by the returning voice cast of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom and Danny McBride.

Newcomers lending their voice this time around are Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Marcello Hernandez, Walker Scobell, Sam Richardson, Anna Cathcart, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Nikki Glaser, James Austin Johnson and Psalm West.

Sony Pictures distributed the first two films in the Angry Birds franchise. The Angry Birds Movie was released in 2016, while its sequel The Angry Birds Movie 2 came to theaters in 2019.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with Paramount Pictures and extremely proud of our incredible cast,” the film’s producer, John Cohen, said in a statement. “Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Rachel and Danny returning to voice their fantastic characters, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of comedic talent. These are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re so thrilled to have them all on board.”

The White Lotus creator Mike White is speaking out about the show’s composer quitting the show.

In an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday, White was asked his thoughts about Cristóbal Tapia de Veer publicly announcing via The New York Times that he would not return to compose the music for season 4 of the HBO series. De Veer told the outlet he and White had “already had our last fight forever.”

“I honestly don’t know what happened, except now I’m reading his interviews because he decides to do some PR campaign about him leaving the show,” White said. “I don’t think he respected me. … We never really even fought. He says we feuded. I don’t think I ever had a fight with him — except for maybe some emails.”

White believes de Veer had an issue with receiving notes from him.

“It was basically me giving him notes. I don’t think he liked to go through the process of getting notes from me, or wanting revisions, because he didn’t respect me,” White said. “I knew he wasn’t a team player and that [he] wanted to do it his way. I was thrown that he would go to The New York Times to s*** on me and the show three days before the finale. It was kinda of a b**** move.”

Additionally, White believes de Veer is making a big deal out of a creative difference.

“He is very talented. [But] I’ve never kissed somebody’s a** so hard to just get him to — to lead that horse to water. Have fun with whatever you’re doing next,” White said.

The White Lotus aired its season 3 finale on Sunday. HBO has renewed the drama series for a fourth season.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen stars in The World Will Tremble, the new film that tells the true story of how a group of Polish Jewish prisoners escaped from the first Nazi death camp during World War II.

Directed by Lior Geller, the film follows the previously untold story of the first eyewitness account of the Holocaust. Jackson-Cohen plays Solomon Wiener, who was held captive as a gravedigger and had to bury his own, before he and fellow prisoner Michael Podchlebnik, played by Jeremy Neumark Jones in the film, decided to escape.

Both Wiener and Podchlebnik lost their families to the Nazis. They escaped the prison camp Chelmno not for themselves, but instead for other Jews and in an attempt to warn the rest of the world about the horrific scale of the Nazi crimes.

“It’s a shame to say I didn’t know how it all began, never really stopped to think about the intricacies of how this process kind of ran,” Jackson-Cohen said. “It was sort of quite an eye-opener and quite an arresting thing also to know that every single thing in the script is an entirely true story. So it’s quite sobering.”

This is the only film to portray Chelmno on screen. Additionally, there is not one book, whether academic or fiction, that depicts Wiener and Podchlebnik’s escape. Jackson-Cohen says it feels so important for their story to finally be told in this film.

“The Holocaust survivors, there are so few and in not very long there won’t be any. And we forget, with history. We like to forget,” Jackson-Cohen said. “It’s such an exceptional thing what these people went through and what they did that I think stories, and especially true stories like that, really deserve to be heard.”

The star-studded trailer for Wes Anderson‘s latest film has arrived.

Benicio del Toro stars in the official trailer for The Phoenician Scheme, the newest film to come from the auteur director.

Del Toro plays Zsa-zsa Korda in the film. He’s one of the richest men in all of Europe. Mia Threapleton plays his daughter, Liesl, who is a nun, while Michael Cera is their tutor, Bjorn.

The trailer reveals Zsa-zsa Korda is an aviator who has gotten into six plane crashes over the course of his life. Though he has 10 children, he has appointed his only daughter, Liesl, whom he has not visited in six years, to be sole heir to his estate.

He, Liesel and Bjorn then go on a journey to make sure an important project is fulfilled as others set out to thwart it.

“Today, tonight and tomorrow, we rendezvous with every titan and pretend we agree what we already agree. But, in fact, we don’t. We can’t,” del Toro says in the trailer.

The main cast are joined by a stacked group of supporting actors, including Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend and Hope Davis.

“Can you imagine falling in love with a man like me, by the way? Hypothetically?” Cera’s Bjorn asks Threapleton’s Liesel in the trailer.

“You’re drunk. On three beers,” is her simple response.

The Phoenician Scheme arrives in movie theaters on May 30.

Robert De Niro is set to receive an honorary Palme d’Or at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.

The film festival announced Monday De Niro will be honored with the lifetime achievement award. It will be presented to him at the opening ceremony of the festival on May 13. That just so happens to be exactly 14 years after he presided over the Cannes jury in 2011.

“I have such close feelings for Festival de Cannes,” De Niro said in a statement. “Especially now when there’s so much in the world pulling us apart, Cannes brings us together — storytellers, filmmakers, fans, and friends. It’s like coming home.”

The actor has a long history with the festival, going back to 1976. He starred in two films both in competition that year — 1900 and Taxi Driver. The latter won the Palme d’Or. He has starred in one other film that has won the Palme d’Or, Roland Joffé‘s The Mission.

On May 14, the day after he’s awarded the prize, De Niro will meet festivalgoers for a masterclass on the Debussy Theatre stage.

The 2025 Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 13 to May 24 in Cannes, France.
